In the age of social media hot takes, apparently, we aren’t allowed to enjoy good things. Even a good sports story has to become a flashpoint in our ongoing cultural battles.
In what has been called a Cinderella story, Oral Roberts University has made the Sweet 16 in NCAA March Madness. However, some in the crowd have been cheering for them to be banned rather than for them to win.
In the most recent example of cancel culture, the mob has been coming after ORU — mocking their name, history and beliefs as bigoted or homophobic. Some have even gone so far as to call for the NCAA to restrict such Neanderthals from playing, others saying they should be “pariahs, not heroes.” . . .
When I was there, I saw thousands of students passionate about their faith, their education and their desire to make a difference in the world. Such religious faith motivates all kinds of good actions our culture wants, from disaster relief to Eric Talley, the officer who bravely gave his life running into the mass shooting at a King Soopers in Boulder, Colorado, this week.
Yet, the mob has come for these college students. . . .
Not just Oral Roberts
It’s easy to point out the eccentric elements of their history, but President Billy Wilson and the Oral Roberts faculty are well respected and the school is thriving. Yet, it apparently lacks the needed qualifications to play college sports today — a willingness to conform to the new moral dogma.
The dogma teaches that tolerance must mean agreement, then branding all who disagree as intolerant and harmful. Not satisfied that we respect opposing views on human sexuality, all must affirm homosexuality as acceptable within our own theology. . . .
This is a stunning 180 from the arguments we heard in 2009 when LGBTQ+ advocates maintained, “All we want is the right to marry. How will my gay marriage hurt you?” Now it’s: “We want your college accreditation, your athletic participation and more.” . . .
The Equality Act
The calls to remove Oral Roberts from NCAA competition comes against the backdrop of Senate debates over the Equality Act. Proponents of the act want to say the law will just keep the homophobes from harming the rights of LGBTQ+ persons, but that’s neither accurate nor honest. . . .
The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, of which ORU is a member, explains:
“The Equality Act fails to provide essential religious liberty protections that would allow a diverse group of social service and civic institutions to continue to thrive. In particular, as it relates to the sector of faith-based higher education that has religious convictions around marriage, human sexuality and gender, including CCCU institutions, these laws would conflict in ways that would put at risk their ability to hire and operate in accordance with their religious missions and would restrict student choice in an unprecedented way by preventing middle and low income students from being able to take their federal student aid to these institutions. Faith-based higher education has always been an essential element of the diversity of the higher education system in the United States—many of the first colleges and universities in the United States were religious—and it is essential that any protections for LGBT persons be paired with the essential religious freedoms that maximize freedom for all.” . . .
Moreover, even as popular rhetoric claims the mantle of the civil rights movement, they ignore voices of dissent from religious people of color. Only this past week, prominent African American church leaders wrote a letter to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee arguing for religious exemptions to the proposed Equality Act. Published by the AND Campaign, led by Justin Giboney, the letter was signed by respected leaders who include James Meeks, Bishop Claude Alexander and Suzan Johnson-Cook.
The new tolerance is not tolerance
This matters to me because what is happening to Oral Roberts University is coming to all of us who hold to such outdated ideas. I serve as a dean at Wheaton College, an evangelical institution where students commit to a community covenant. We, too, call students to a lifestyle in alignment with our Christian beliefs. We don’t hold quite the same standards as ORU, but ours won’t pass the new tolerance test, either. . . .
From Chick-fil-A to the Salvation Army to a baker in Colorado, we have to decide whether we want to run everyone out of everywhere they dare go with their biblically based ideas. . . .
Perhaps, instead of such a pendulum swing against people of faith, we could agree that all persons are worthy of dignity and respect, and that civil rights should matter for everyone.
And, maybe, just maybe, we could let the religious college kids play basketball without it becoming a national controversy. . . .

It is time to call for the Impeachment of this so-called President Biden. He is destroying our economy as fast as he can. We will not survive another 6 months or less with the millions pouring into this nation.
Please become active by phoning 6 Congresspersons daily to weekly to ask them to start Impeachment Proceedings because he broke the Immigration Laws in place. We must stop the tyranny of this leadership or we will be no longer a Free society that can speak, worship or study truth. The demise of these United States is at hand. Will we fight and pray…we must put “legs to our prayers” . Oppose every act that comes from you Federal, State of local community while we still can oppose it. John Casey wrote a book about the SCAM of Climate Change. It will destroy our freedom again…read it and see in his book: THE COLD TRUTH INITIATIVE. J. Casey is a former White House space program advisor, a space shuttle engineer and a climate change researcher and expert. “GLOBAL WARMING IS AN OUTRIGHT SHAM” and he explains how and why it is.
I agree with this statement, besides religous freedom, “we could agree that all persons are worthy of dignity and respect, and that civil rights should matter for everyone.” Lord have mercy, help many Christians be strong and brave to stand for our faith.
Making a stand for the Word of the Lord and his ways, is more important now then ever. As Christians we must get on our face and pray, fast so that the our faith is strengthened. This call is to the whole “body of Christ”…the remnant that must and will stand in the gap. Older Christians must teach and model what it means to stand and fight. Because it is not the weapons of man that conquers, it is the spiritual warfare. The Word is plentiful in how to hear from the Holy Spirit and how to fight in the Spirit. I call on the church to pray each day or when the Lord prompts us, for these young people who desire to learn and model CHrist’s teachings. It is difficult enough to stand without the rampage of cancel culture much less with the darkness being emboldened by US standing by and wringing our hands. AND we must remember that Jesus said if we are hated it is because the world hated Him first. My prayer is for these in the Godly universities to find strength to continue to follow Jesus and for those young people who seduced by the darkness, to have the scales washed from their eyes and turn to the eternal and One God through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Lord, thank You for these young men who are willing to swim against the current cultural tide and stand up for our faith. Thank You for their success on the basketball court, and we even thank You for the spotlight it has put them in. Our hearts are grieved that so much of society has turned away from You and Your ways. And we wrestle with our role in a world where You are mocked. Thank You that we have been so sheltered, and so free to live according to Your ways and to proclaim Your Truth. It is not that way in many other places, where Christians are truly persecuted. BUT, even in this “light, momentary affliction” we call out to You. Help these young men stand strong, help us stand strong. Let us be lights in this dark world. Let us boldly proclaim both Your coming judgment AND Your infinite mercy! You prepare a table for us in the presence of enemies…we will dine with You, we will enjoy You, we will invite others to the table. And we pray that our enemies might become brothers and sisters. Thank You that these men are standing for You and Your ways. Guard them from paths of unrighteousness and the temptations that so easily entice them because of their age, their athleticism, and the current state of our culture. Oh Lord, let them be lights. Let every mocking tongue be made silent. And help US to not take offense at foolish words, loudly spoken, by people who are on their way to hell. We are YOUR sheep and we choose to listen to YOUR voice only! You alone are worthy & we willingly offer ourselves up to You as living sacrifices, glad to imitate Jesus.
It is tragic to see the loss of humanity and the growth of mob rule in our country. The politicizing of the NCAA Basketball Tournament is a national disgrace. We must remember, Matthew 5:10, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Lord, God, give us eyes to see their own reflection. Make each of us an example to the world of your love and compassion. May our example be acceptable to you and influence non-believers that their hope should lie in you. We were all created in your image to steward your creation. Let us return to your intended reality and not rely on our own understandings.

1. I believe this is the time for us to also FAST and PRAY. Some battles need the extra power and grace that comes from fasting and praying. Remember how Queen Esther, Mordecai and the children of Israel defeated the demonic treachery embodied in Hammon’s wicked plot as he deceived his way into getting governmental backing? Sometimes a fight requires stronger action than words alone can accomplish.
2. God’s Heart is hurting over the sin and corruption being allowed in America by its citizenry. We must take a corporate stand in meaningful and spiritually effective ways to combat the wickedness of abortion murders, exploiting children and the helpless, sexual perversions, tolerating an immoral culture, condoning rampant divorce and the breaking of vows made before God, etc, etc, etc…!!! But what can we do?! If we unite together with REPENTANCE, HUMBLE PRAYERS AND FASTING then, I believe, we will move God’s Heart and Heaven to intervene and supernaturally drive out the EVIL from our midst. We can’t relegate this fight to government leaders and just a handful of intercessors and activists. This is all of OUR earth which God gave us stewardship of and evil coming in to rob, kill, destroy, pervert, deceive, corrupt and make vile OUR earth to the insult of OUR FATHER, CREATOR, LORD JESUS AND HIS HOLY SPIRIT is ABSOLUTELY INTOLERABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!! So, THIS BATTLE IS ALL OF OUR FIGHT!
3. The weapons of our warfare ARE MIGHTY for the pulling down of strongholds. A) Be baptized in the Holy Spirit if you’re not – He will teach us everything we need to know ~ including how to win this battle. B) Sincerely repent of any and all sins. God simply can’t cohabitate with sin and without His Presence we can’t win this war. C) Pray in tongues as much as possible ~ we need to be built up with divine, supernatural graces. D) Care that God’s Heart is grieved by our corporate, national, global sin and ask for His forgiveness for us all. E) Pray and Fast very often until the war is won. F) If the Holy Spirit leads you to do anything else remember to make sure it lines up with His written Word. And if in doubt seek confirmation and counsel from mature, seasoned Christians who live their faith as they walk with Jesus.

we pray the for foolishness of so many churches and Christians into backing off the standards which God has set forth. It is time to wake up to the fact that LGBTQ is a sexual preference not an identity, this is a something you utilize in your own homes in regard to intimate relations not an identity badge. So where this all this confusion come to light in the first place is the real questions. We should not even be aware of anyone preference in regards to LGBTQ so why is it a issu e? Friends and I were rooting for you all the other night in the Sweet 16. Hold your heads up. You took on a 3rd place team and outshined them for most of the game. I appreciate the coaches stand against the cancel culture that was trying to distract them. Satan is evil, that is his job. The team stood strong. We are proud of them.

Will the Pastors wake up, run for office, and tell there people that they must be involved in the politics and write, act and call all the leaders and tell them what is right. The crimes some of leaders have committed, would put you and I in jail…but not them. We must demand justice from the Courts, the Congress and the Whitehouse, the FBI and the DOJ. Ohhh, I was just going to find out if they won today……so sorry to hear this! I do hope that the referees were fair and made only honest calls!! After our recent election in the USA, one never knows if even the refs could be “Paid off” so that this fine Christian team does not win…..
But yet, even in a loss, our country full of lovers of college basketball, will see an example of a
Christian team being able to congratulate the winners, and “in everything give thanks” to the Lord.

Praying that my Alma Mater will continue to fulfill Founding President Robert’s vision of “going where His light is seen dim and His voice is heard small.” Such prescient, Holy Spirit inspired words are more relevant than ever today.
Bullies only back down when they are challenged. The only reason they do it is because they can and they think they will get away with it. And if they are not challenged they will get away with it. The Lord is on our side and He will fight for us, and if we take a stand He will back us up. In the book of acts, did He not confirm their words with signs and wonders. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He owns all the cattle on a thousand hills. Be strong ORU. He will provide.
Yes, amen. Satan has only hijacked our nations’ “bully pulpit” of moral authority from God’s people because we have been silent too long. Afraid of man, afraid of being called “intolerant, unloving.”
But the righteous are bold as a lion. We must re-assert our position of moral authority neither by cowardly silence, nor angry shout backs.
Rather we must speak boldly, without fear or compromise, but firmly and in love and the authority and conviction Messiah has delegated to us, without backing down—even risking jail or civil penalties now in order that our liberties not be totally wiped out.

this world has gone insane. i pray for these institutions and the kids who are sticking to Gods word. the sad part is it looks like the world is winning, but in the end and the end is coming.one day the Bible will be fulfilled,for me and those who trust in Christ it will be the beginning of eternity with the Lord. but for the vast majority. it will be what they thought they wanted,but will find out how wrong they were. for what ever is ahead hold to the Lord. He has our backs and can be fully trusted. pray for the lost. He wants all to be saved.

We know you are sovereign, righteous and just. We know you are on the side of your people – those who stand on your truth. I pray your mighty angel armies would protect and battle for the universities that take a stand for moral principles, and for what is natural in your perfect creation of mankind. Help us Lord!
Lord, I Pray. That the Truth will come out concerning all the lies of the enemy. As a Christian let all the negative games of the enemy fall to the mighty voice of God. Lord I pray that as intercessors across the nation, Pray, that we would act graciously towards those who are in sin and trying to break free. And that we would continue to be gracious and fully love them as they chose to remain in their sin life. For we could be planting the seed.

The outright persecution of those who follow Yahweh is here. Now, more than ever, is the time to be a bold witness to the Christian faith, however poorly it has been represented in the past.
The cancel culture doesn’t see the irony of their behavior: they’re screaming for rights and equality for all, but in the same breath trying to deny those same rights for any who disagree with their beliefs. May our position as Christ followers be as vehement as theirs, but without the display of anger and hatred. Righteous indignation is different from hateful anger.
Holy Spirit, give us all wisdom to know how to come against the enemy without compromising our dignity or our witness for You. Our approach needs to look different from that of our opponents! Please bless the ORU basketball team and protect them from harm. Especially bless them as they hold fast to what they know is right in Your sight. Protect their hearts and may their faith in You and Your tenets remain strong and intact. We are not strong enough in our own power to do this alone; we need You to go before us. We worship you and recognize You as our Creator and Defender. May all the praise and glory go to You, Lord God. We pray all this in the holy, pure and unmatched name of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
If anyone needed more facts before they were convinced that Christian persecution is alive and well in the USA, here are the facts. Basketball!
I pray that the NCAA will have the courage to withstand this pressure. If Oral Roberts was eligible to contend for the Sweet Sixteen, then they should be eligible to win a place. I am deeply grieved by unthinkable things that have already not only been thought but accomplished, and while I pray, I continue to fear the future. I try to be confident in Christ, but our Lord has repeatedly shown me that His ways of accomplishing good are not always my ways of accomplishing good. I just want Him to pound the opposition and get it over with. Jesus would never have gone to the cross if that were His way.

I truely believe that to honor the constitution’s freedom of religon we must let Christian groups, whether churches, schools, or universities. their right to their beliefs. That said, ORU students should not be attacked, just like Jews , blacks, or orientals should not be attacked. The scripture you referenced has nothing to with who is or who is not a child of God. It merely states that God will, or desire, is that all would come to repentance. However, we know in reality that all will, only those who answer His call.

the problem with everybody using the word racism, the racism that is actually happening is lost. The young man who killed 8 people in Atlanta killed 6 Asian Americans and 2 White people. He was not a racist acting out against a group of one type of people. He was addicted to porn, and went that particular spa because they gave him Sex. The spa that he intended to go that, but didn’t make too. Was for the same reason. In his mind if he killed those 8 people then he wouldn’t be tempted to go to a place for Sex.

Let us not judge those who choose to persecute us. Let us rather, lead by example to show that we know that God (who created all things) gave us a purpose in life. All living things reproduce and create families through the unity of the two genders (male & female). Yes, it is arrogance (the enemy of humanity) which has corrupted the pattern by which we are meant to live, but judging those who have strayed is not dissimilar to the actions of ‘the accuser’ who has (throughout human history) told God, “look at how flawed they are! you made a mistake! look at how I can control and manipulate them!, and YOU call them YOUR children!?” This must hurt our creator, who only wants for us to live in pure love and create happiness through our families.
Leading by the example of unselfish love can defeat the corrupt & selfish love which resulted from the ‘bargain’ we made in the garden. It will take time. That is certain. Let us discover ways to firmly declare that we are children of a ‘Living God’ and that mankind cannot move forward and prosper without each of us humbling ourselves before God. God gave his heart and personality, and we have trampled it. This is something for which we ALL must repent. We have been given the responsibility to create God’s kingdom here on earth (“on earth as it is in heaven”). We are jot judging them. We are standing against what they are trying to DO. Of course we forgive them and pray for them (2 Peter 3:9). Forgiveness does not mean submission. We MUST stand up for those who stand for God and the Bible. Sometimes unselfish love means we do not let others take advantage of our kindness. Yes, we are all flawed, and all have fallen short. We must be bold and decisive in our love, and not allow evil to cancel us. Humbling ourselves before God is a different issue from standing up for our (collective) God given rights, and not allowing man to take them from us. We CAN do this and remain true to God’s Word, walking sinlessly, blamelessly, and bold. See Romans 12:21.
In the end times, we know that such persecution will come so we must be prepared for it and get in the fight. We will feel a deep and lasting shame if we withdraw out of fear to the safety of silence. As Paul said “we must hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering”. Every day in the media, schools, television, etc. Bible believing Christians are ridiculed, mocked, and bullied into what they hope will be submission. Instead, share in suffering for the gospel, relying on the power of God. We will be rewarded for this for all eternity.

In the film Chariots of Fire, Eric Liddell is handed a portion of 1 Samuel 2:30, “…those who honor Me I will honor…” He had refused to prove he was the fastest man alive at the 1924 Paris Olympics because one of the heats for the 100m race was set for a Sunday. He said that was a day to honor the Lord, not himself. The Lord did honor Liddell, and he broke the world record in the 400m, and he beat the silver medalist by so much that the distance between first and second at that distance at the Olympics wouldn’t be broken for three decades. Now the Lord is honoring Liddell again. For the first time the Olympics will be hosted by Paris in the centennial of the first time they hosted the Games. With all that goes into bidding to be an Olympic city, this is truly miraculous.

I pray ORU not be removed from the NCAA Sweet 16! I mean they made there and the only thing that can send them home is if they get beat by another team! I went there in the 90’s and Loved it! I met so many lovely people, I saw Carman, DC Talk among others! You Can’t cancel Jesus! Many people have tried and most of them are dead! For example, Hitler tried and yep, he’s dead! PLEASE, Senators and Members of Congress, stop condemning those who hold religious freedom in high regard! The “Equality Act” being pushed through your halls and chambers sets standards that trample the freedoms our great nation was founded upon. “In God We Trust” is the antithesis of everything this bill would put in place. Indeed, it enables and encourages persecution of all Judeo-Christian principles. I implore you to stop this mis-named piece of legislation!

I pray in your holy name dear Jesus to stop this evil that has perpetuated college basketball and sports in general! I pray you make this Christian college Oral Roberts University shine for all to see what winners they will be in this tournament!
Lord God, I pray that You would make a way where there seems to be no way for Oral Roberts University to participate in the March Madness basketball tournament. I pray, Lord, that You would bless and keep the people who are coming against this scrappy basketball team, who are dedicated to honoring you. Make Your face shine down upon them and be gracious to them. Lift Your countenance upon them and give them Your peace.
Father, I pray that this ORU team would have Your favor on them with the decision makers, and that You would cancel any anti-christ spirit that is trying to suppress Your people from competing and excelling at their chosen activities. We pray that Your kingdom will come and Your will will be done in this situation. We pray that these players will be focused on Your kingdom, Your power, and Your glory in this situation.
