I Prayed have prayed
God, we present Psalm 144:9; reveal the song of our hearts toward You whenever the Enemy tries to discourage, distract, or otherwise detract from our relationship with You.
Reading Time: 3 minutes

I love you in a place where there’s no space or time … I treated you unkindly but you are a friend of mine. Imagine having these words being repeatedly sung to you while waking from sleep. Now imagine how much more powerful to have been awakened with this song the first morning of 2024 — expecting to awaken experiencing the joy of spiritual breakthrough, but instead being bombarded with defeating thoughts in the early morning hours while still too groggy to feel battle-ready. Enemy arrows were being shot with rapid fire:

  1. If there is breakthrough, why are you in the same physical, relational, and financial valley?
  2. Maybe you want and need Him, but do you really love and revere Him — enough?
  3. If you love and have obeyed Him, why are you still here?
  4. If you have been faithful, why hasn’t He opened up His window of blessing for you? Or, my favorite:
  5. You know you’re tired; just relax — stop saying yes to Him.

Such is the power of the strengthening Church right now that our Enemy desperately wants us to withdraw from His strongholds. He knows that he’s under our feet and will pull out all the stops, including attacking us at our weakest moments with blank ammunition. He’s frantic, hoping that something, anything that once bound us will work again, and he knows exactly which ammunition has caused us to retreat or to freeze in the past.

Once I recognized the Enemy and his same old schemes, I immediately engaged in battle, declaring what is written in place of every lie. I was so engaged in battle that I hadn’t focused long enough to really hear the song I’d heard in the background of my heart prior to hearing the Enemy’s whispers. Even as I was battling, I could still hear a faint melody, but not with clarity.

I finally paused to tune my ears and my heart to what the Spirit was singing to me, and heard: We’re alone now, and I’m singing this song to You. I love You in a place where there’s no space or time, I treated You unkindly, but You are a friend of mine. I immediately recognized the song as Donny Hathaway’s rendition of “A Song for You” (1971). The full lyrics read as a returning prodigal’s love letter to Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and reveal the lie behind every one of the Enemy’s accusatory questions.

After confirming the Spirit, the peace of God overwhelmed me as He said: “I know your heart, and I’m singing your heart toward me. He’s a liar. Stand your ground, beloved.”

In that moment, I began singing the song to God. The Enemy fled and hasn’t returned.

Had I continued fighting with my own understanding, ignoring the faint sound of the song in my heart, thinking it nothing more than my soul, I would have missed an encounter with The Lover of my soul. Eventually, the Enemy might still have fled, but it would have taken much more out of me, there might still have been room for whispering doubt during the days following, and I would have neglected my place on the wall for the day, too focused on battling for my own mind. Instead, I finally stood still, waiting on and listening for what God would do to deliver me, according to Exodus 14:13–14. This was it: the manifest evidence of a spiritual breakthrough for which I had prayed, and a crossing-over more powerful and more valuable than any material thing.

Intercessors, family of the Most High God, our Abba knows exactly how the Enemy will try bombarding us in this era, and He’s already given us victory on Calvary. If you are experiencing attacks like this, suit up according to Ephesians 6, without forgetting that our victory is by His Spirit, not by our own might or power (see Zechariah 4:6). God knows our heart, sees our sacrifice, and longs to reveal His steadfast love toward us by confirming our identity in Christ, using whatever He has uniquely woven into us. Don’t hinder the ways He will speak to  you. This is not the first time God has used a nonreligious song to speak to me. I pray that it will not be the last, because knowing the love of music He placed inside of me, I also know He has removed some relationship-hindering religious dross.

Lord, we will not be snatched from You, and we will never choose to leave Your righteous right hand. You fight for us, so teach us to stand firm and to be still enough to see Your salvation in every battle.

I love “The Lion and the Lamb”
The chorus says:”

Our God is the lion
The Lion of Judah
He’s roaring with power
And fighting our battles
And every knee will bow before Him
Our God is the lamb
The lamb that was slain
For the sin of the world
His blood breaks the chains
And every knee will bow before the lion and the lamb
Every knee will bow before Him

I love this song because I’m reminded that I’m not the one who has to do the fighting, it’s Jesus, and he’s already won. I just need to stand behind Him! I’m also reminded that I’m free from the bondage of sin.

Praise God Almighty!

Maybe we should start a thread of songs other believers can stand on declaring God’s truths!

Yes, just today the Lord brought to mind the old hymn “My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness…” We sang this song in this morning’s worship service at church. I was thrilled to sing that last verse: “When He shall come with trumpet sound, Oh may I then in Him be found; DRESSED IN HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS ALONE, FAULTLESS TO STAND BEFORE THE THRONE”!! After a very busy day and an exhausting week, I was sensing the Enemy attack with discouragement and failure messages. The Holy Spirit brought the verses of that song to mind to encourage me. Praise God.

I want to have a heart song. When its time to sing my mind goes blank. I desire a heart song and want a breakthrough to eventually sing scripture

Hi, Bobette! I wish my church sang some of the verses which have already been put to music. Do you know the tunes for “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you” or “Behold, what manner of love the Father has given unto us, that we should be called the children of God” or “I know Whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed unto Him until that Day”? There are others; maybe google for tunes and lyrics; He has provided everything we need, because His steadfast love endures forever!
