Three Amazing Truths about Passover
Surely, he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all, Isaiah 53:4-6.
What do these words mean to you as a Christian and as an intercessor? In a world steeped in sin, confusion, and darkness, they should mean EVERYTHING! On that glorious day when Jesus shed His blood on the cross, He took every sin, sickness, disease, heartache, and injustice upon Himself, declaring, “It is finished.”

The phrase “it is finished” was an accounting term in biblical times, which meant that a debt was PAID IN FULL. In other words, there was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING LEFT TO BE PAID when it came to our sins. Thus, when Isaiah 53 states, the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all, this means ALL OF OUR INIQUITIES.
The season of Passover is here, and now more than ever, we must take hold of several essential truths that define our lives as disciples who are saved by the blood of Jesus Christ. These are truths we must cling to every single day, whether in joyful or challenging times. Jesus is the Rock who does not move, and His Word and Truth stand forever.
We are Sealed by His Blood
The first amazing truth about Passover, which must sink deeply into our hearts, is that WE ARE COMPLETELY SEALED by the blood of Jesus Christ. On the very first Passover, the Hebrews were instructed to smear (mark) their doorposts with the blood of an innocent lamb. If they did this, the Angel of Death would pass over them.
Take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and touch the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. None of you shall go out of the door of his house until the morning. For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians, and when he sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you, Exodus 12:22-23.
First Fruits of Zion explains, “Consider a few of the parallels. Messiah is called our Passover Lamb. He died at Passover time. Just as the death came upon Egypt to claim the firstborns, so too all mankind is given over to death. Just as those under the protection of the Passover lamb’s blood markings were protected from death, so too those who take refuge under the blood of Messiah are protected from condemnation. They are given eternal life and will overcome death in the resurrection.”
Consider this as well. Each Hebrew family had the responsibility to apply the blood to their own doorposts. As believers, we too must apply the blood to the doorposts of our lives daily. When we know that we dwell with Jesus, having been completely sealed by His blood, we can face whatever comes our way, even death. Hallelujah!
We Have Been Set Free
The next wonderful truth about Passover that we must receive and believe is that WE HAVE BEEN SET FREE. In other words, WE HAVE BEEN DELIVERED. While many believers have read this in the Bible and heard it preached in countless sermons, there are still those who cannot comprehend what it means.
Rabbi Kirt Schneider, host of the program Discovering the Jewish Jesus, reminds us that God came down to earth to set us free from everything that keeps us in bondage. In fact, God told Moses in Exodus 3:8, “I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey.”
Our Creator came down to rescue us from the hostile powers and demonic forces that seek to oppress us. Rabbi Schneider explains that worries, fears, oppression, and darkness should not exert power over our lives because God has delivered us and “brought us into a good and spacious land.” While some might see this land as physical, in reality, it’s actually a spiritual space. This spacious land is where we dwell with Jesus spiritually, and it’s in this place that we find freedom. “Milk and honey” represent the peace and confidence we have in believing and knowing that Jesus has already delivered us.
Exodus 3:8 states that God delivered the Hebrew slaves out of the hand of the Egyptians in order to bring them up to a good and spacious land. The enemy wants to trap us in a dark place of anxiety, torment, doubt, and depression, but when we remember to “go up,” to Jesus, we live in the grace, freedom, and provision of God’s unfailing love and promises.
Passover reminds us that Jesus always hears our cries. Every single moment, he comes down to meet with us and deliver us from the difficulties, obstacles, and circumstances that so often consume us.
God Will Part the Red Sea
Finally, there’s a third truth about Passover, which is quite encouraging, and it will surely fill your heart with hope. This truth comes from what happened after the first Passover, and after the Hebrews left the oppressive Egyptians behind.
But God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea, Exodus 13:18.
Beloved intercessor, the truth is that God will part the Red Sea for you. Looking back at what the Lord did for His people through this fantastic miracle, it’s important to understand the circumstances of how this unfolded.
As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord. They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians?’ It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!” Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still, Exodus 14:10-14, NIV.
The last verse is key: The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.
In the midst of your battles and struggles, you will see the enemy’s army pursuing you. But do not be shaken. Do not be anxious or terrified. Instead, BE STILL. This means you must trust God to win the war. It is He who will defeat Pharaoh and part the Red Sea. It is He who will receive the glory.
There are many Red Sea miracles that are needed right now. Instead of focusing on the enemy’s army, it’s time to BE STILL and trust God. We may not know the timing, or just how He will part the Red Sea, but we KNOW that He is fighting for us.
Are you living in the truth of Passover, or are you living under the oppression of Pharaoh? Indeed, as a child of God, saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, you are forever sealed. You have been delivered, and the Lord will always fight for you. Live and walk in these truths not just at Passover, but every single day of the year.
But the people of Israel walked on dry ground through the sea, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. Thus, the Lord saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. Israel saw the great power that the Lord used against the Egyptians, so the people feared the Lord, and they believed in the Lord and in his servant Moses, Exodus 14:29-31.
Lord Jesus, thank you for being our Passover lamb. We put all of our faith and trust in You alone. You are our healer, deliverer, and Savior.
How has Jesus revealed Himself to you during this Passover season?
