“If the foundations be destroyed, what will the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3)
Our nation was founded upon godly principles, as the Founding Fathers appealed to the Father of Lights and established a nation rooted in the Word of God. Ours is the only nation with a Constitution such as this, declaring certain inalienable rights given to us by God, not by man. The Word of God is woven throughout all of our founding documents.

This land witnessed miracles, signs, and wonders from the very beginning. General George Washington was divinely protected through multiple attempts on his life, even bearing holes in his coat as evidence of what the enemy intended to do and of God’s miraculous preservation. When British ships invaded our shores, cloud cover concealed the troops from sight. How transcendent it must have been to behold General Washington kneeling at Valley Forge, appealing to Heaven for a miraculous victory as the troops were starving, lacked supplies, and walked barefoot through the harsh winter.
The founders boldly, yet quietly, signed the Declaration of Independence, fully aware that they were risking their very lives to establish a free nation under God. They trembled under the weight of the moment and the sacrifice required of them.
We saw these men laying down their lives, sacred honor, and fortunes in order to establish a nation that honors God — a nation founded to share the Gospel to the four corners of the earth, a city set upon a hill.
When the thirteen colonies were in turmoil and had reached an impasse during the Constitutional Convention, Benjamin Franklin boldly declared that “God governs in the affairs of men” and that “except the Lord build the house, the builders labor in vain.” He urged an appeal to the “Father of Lights,” calling for each session to be opened with prayer, imploring the assistance of Heaven and its blessing upon their deliberations.
Our Heavenly Father established this nation with a purpose: to evangelize the world. Because of His faithfulness, America has experienced abundant blessings. A covenant was made between God and this nation, beginning at Cape Henry and continuing through the Pilgrims at Provincetown Harbor.
Tragically, as has happened throughout history, both our people and this nation have strayed from the Lord and from what He has called us to do. Sin abounds, and evil runs rampant. The blood of over 60 million murdered babies cries out from the land. We are being attacked from within, while some of the nation’s leaders call good evil and evil good.
If not for the intervention and mercy of God, we are headed toward destruction. Yet throughout history, whenever God’s people humbled themselves, repented, and turned back to Him, He answered with mercy, restoration, and healing. May this nation once again return to the Lord before it is too late.
On May 17, 1776, the Second Continental Congress observed a nationwide day of humiliation, fasting, and prayer in support of the cause of independence. The resolution began:
“In times of impending calamity and distress, when the liberties of America are imminently endangered by the secret machinations and open assaults of an insidious and vindictive administration… it becomes the indispensable duty of these hitherto free and happy colonies, with true penitence of heart, and the most reverent devotion, publickly to acknowledge the overruling providence of God.”
Two hundred fifty years later, on May 17, 2026, President Trump called for a national day of prayer and a rededication of America back to God. It is Divine providence that led to this day. It is profoundly prophetic that this has occurred on this exact day and at this exact moment in history.
Throughout the history of this nation, we have seen our leaders turn to God to seek His wisdom and ask for His mercy in times of distress, danger, and turmoil. We have also seen this pattern throughout Biblical history, undoubtedly laying a foundation for our own leaders today.
In Nineveh, God gave a solemn warning of destruction through the prophet Jonah if the people would not repent. Rather than rejecting the warning, the Ninevites humbled themselves and repented of their sin, from the king down to the lowliest citizen. The entire city fasted, put on sackcloth, and sat in ashes. Because of their repentance, ” When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way, God relented of the disaster that He had said He would do to them, and He did not do it”(Jonah 3:10).
2 Chronicles 14 describes a time when the prophet Azariah told King Asa that if he sought the Lord, God would be with him. In response, King Asa removed idols and repaired the altar of the Lord’s temple. He assembled the people to sacrifice unto the Lord:
“They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their ancestors, with all their heart and soul. All who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, were to be put to death, whether small or great, man or woman. They took an oath to the Lord with loud acclamation, with shouting, and with trumpets and horns. All Judah rejoiced about the oath because they had sworn it wholeheartedly. They sought God eagerly, and He was found by them. So the Lord gave them rest on every side” (2 Chronicles 15:12–15).
Just as in Nineveh and Judah, where leaders called for repentance, prayer, and fasting, our nation has likewise been led by governmental and spiritual leaders to do the same. Lou Engle made a clarion call for repentance with a fervent cry for revival. He implored the people to understand that Jubilee means releasing those enslaved by religious spirits, unforgiveness, and bitterness.
Lou Engle also warned that as President Trump read from 2 Chronicles 7 — which speaks of the healing of the land if God’s people humble themselves, seek His face, and turn from their wicked ways — failing to heed that call would bring curses upon the nation. It served as a sobering reminder of how crucial it is to follow the commands and ordinances of Almighty God. May we do so faithfully.
These faithful leaders urged us, both through their words and their example, to humble ourselves and seek God’s forgiveness. Spiritual breakthrough surely took place in the heavenlies as these leaders called forth a spirit of repentance, paving the way for revival.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson declared:
“Just as we in the beginning dedicated this land to Your most holy name, today, here, Lord, in this 250th year of American independence, we hereby rededicate the United States of America as one nation under God. Look upon us with favor, upon Your country, as we celebrate this momentous anniversary, and let Your Holy Spirit descend upon this land so that future generations will look back at this day and this present age and once again see Your providential hand at work. I ask this today, Lord. I pray it, and I believe it, in Your holy name, in Jesus’ name, amen.”
At Rededicate 250, we witnessed governmental and spiritual leaders recounting miraculous acts of God’s intervention throughout both our nation’s history and the history of our faith. We watched as they reclaimed this land for our Lord and shared stories of the covenants made between God and this nation. Together, we participated in the rededication of this land back to God, as directed through our governmental and faith leaders.
The atmosphere was transformed as thousands gathered on the grounds of the National Mall, with millions more participating virtually. There was a profound sense that we were witnessing a sacred and historic moment unfold before our eyes.
May we do as our Lord has commanded us — may we humble ourselves, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways so that we may receive the blessing of our land being healed.
O God, we cry out to You to pour out Your spirit of conviction, leading to godly sorrow and repentance, and ultimately to the greatest revival this world has ever seen.
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you” (1 Peter 5:6-7).
“But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect” (1 Peter 3:15).
