I Prayed have prayed
Dear Heavenly Father, pour out Your Spirit of grace and supplication on Your Body, so that we all pray with passion again—and so that intercessors can find fellowship in prayerful, local churches without exception.
Reading Time: 5 minutes

Dear intercessor, is your heart hurting because you don’t fit in at your local church? If so, you are not alone.

Get involved in State Level Prayer with IFA.

So many intercessors have told me over the years how they have yearned to find fellowship within the Body of Christ, but have been unable to do so. Many have dealt with false perceptions that have been embraced by many church leaders, such as:

  • “Intercessors are weird.”
  • “Intercessors have an agenda.”
  • “Intercessors aren’t under authority.”

And the facts of the matter are evident:

  • Intercessors are certainly different from people who do not pray. The amount of time intercessors spend before the Throne makes them different from those who do not, but not in a bad way—and godly intercessors will never flaunt that or brag about it. They simply serve humbly, for they minister to Jesus and to His heart first and foremost.
  • Also, like every Christian, intercessors should have an agenda—but only an agenda for Heaven to come. An intercessor’s agenda should be for God’s Word to be manifest and carried out in all its fullness in every place, both secular and sacred. This is the same agenda that every true Christian should have.
  • And intercessors, if they are godly people who obey God’s Word, should always be under authority; a help to their godly, local church leaders, never a hindrance.

But even when these conditions are met, intercessors and even the process of intercession itself is not always welcomed in the local church.

Friend, this has to change—and if we want to see it change, we’re going to have to pray in the change we want to see.

The Body of Christ at large, including all its local church expressions, must return to the ancient paths—to fasting and prayer; to waiting on the Lord; and to interceding for Heaven to come on a daily basis. This is what the Word of God prescribes.

As it says in 1 Timothy 2:1-4:

“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

It is when we return to the corporate prayer of agreement—yoking up together with one another at the same time, same place, and with the same heart cry, agreeing with one another (not merely praying as individuals without interacting with others in unity), that we will see miracles. This kind of praying is what the apostles did in Acts 4:31:

“And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.”

Beloved, do you want to see this kind of praying return to the Body of Christ, and to every local church? If so, let’s pray the prayer below in agreement and unity today:

“Dear Heavenly Father, we come to You in Jesus’ name.

Father God, thank You for teaching us how to pray in Your Word. Thank You for giving us Jesus’ example and instructions about how to pray. Thank You for the extreme privilege of boldly coming before the throne of grace, where we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Abba Father, we praise You for Your grace and mercy toward us. And it is because of that grace and mercy that we come to You today.

Father, we in Your Body have too often become prayerless. Many of our churches have become prayerless churches, not the houses of prayer which You have ordained. And for that, Father, we repent. Please forgive us. Forgive us for our prayerlessness; for our disobedience in failing to pray; and for letting our love for You grow cold. Please forgive our sins, Father, in Jesus’ name.

And Abba Father, we join together today to pray in agreement that You would pour out Your Spirit of prayer upon Your people once again, right now.

We remind You of Your words in Zechariah 12:10, which says: “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication ….” And Father, we ask right now that You would pour out on US, we Your people in the American church (and indeed worldwide), Your Spirit of grace and supplication once again:

  • Return us to a craving and yearning for deep times of prayer.
  • Anoint every person to pray.
  • Teach us how to pray.
  • As You woo and draw us to pray, help us to hear Your wooing and answer it—coming aside with You to commune with You in the secret place of the Most High.
  • Teach us how to harness the prayer of agreement effectively, not merely praying alone but praying in concert with one another—a grand symphony of unity being lifted up as sweet incense into Your nostrils.

Father, we ask in Jesus’ name that churches would embrace intercessors—and that every member of every local church would become an intercessor.

You commanded us all to intercede, Father. This is not a unique call, but rather a corporate one. Therefore, Lord:

  • Please dethrone every unholy construct or myth about intercessors.
  • De-mystify the label of “intercessor” in the Body of Christ.
  • Help all Your children to desire to become intercessors after Your own heart.
  • Help every person to see the fullness of joy that comes only in Your presence, lost in deep times of prayer with You.
  • Give every one of Your sons and daughters, young and old, a holy passion and fervor to pray like You desire us to pray.
  • Use us all to pray and intercede for Your heart’s desires; for Your kingdom to come and Your will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
  • Let every person in every church in these United States of America become a powerful intercessor of God, Father, and pour out Your Spirit on us all.
  • Help every intercessor to find godly, holy fellowship and friendships in the local churches again.
  • Let the habit and passion for intercession—with all that the intercessory call contains—become the norm amongst Your sons and daughters, not a rarity.

O Holy Father, pour out Your Spirit of grace and supplication again.

Let churches embrace prayer and intercession; let the prayer of agreement become the lifeblood of our times of fellowship in Your Body. Take away our desires for every useless thing, and turn our hearts to focus fully on eternity once more.

Thank You, Abba Father. We love You and bless You, and it’s in Jesus’ holy name we pray. Amen.”

So, as the Lord told me, to “intercede for the intercessors.” Let’s raise up an army of intercessors for these last days.

Intercession at our church radically changed when we began praying, “Lord, we don’t have an agenda any more. We want Your agenda. We are tired of our prayers, Lord Jesus. We want to pray Yours.” We have lived in Romans 8:26-27 for the past 18 months continually voicing our dependence on Holy Spirit to help us pray according to the will of God. Every time we gather to pray, we seek to hear the Lord Jesus as He “ever lives to intercede” and simply agree with Him. This has made all the difference. Now there are about 15 of us who regularly gather to hear from the Lord and agree with Him for His agenda. Our church is being transformed, our pastor is thrilled, and we are seeing lives changed on a regular basis. I have been involved in church life for 48 years and I have never experienced anything like this.

I agree with this article on praying, intercession.
God’s children are supposed to be praying ‘ talking to God, intercession, intercedeing 25/7.
Intercedeing and worship go together. I would like to see the churches increase intercession and worship at least 8 hr. Service and release control to the Holy Spirit. After all , the Holy Spirit is our teacher, convict or, comfortor, revelations, and teacher of truth of the Bible.
I know if there is an increase of prayer, fasting, extravagant worship, intercession, i know revival would be a lot stronger , quicker, because Satan is already DEFEATED. Amen

I am an intercessor and have held back for months now as once I begin to pray, I can’t stop. I begin to feel that I am too emotional and so shut down.
I am new to this and I the Holy Spirit is so strong in me that I feel I could burst.
I am going to join our intercessor group at church and just go with how ever the Holy Spirit desires. I have to.

I desire that every intercessor find a Biblical church that i
embraces prayer, corporate prayer, as the norm. We have found two churches where we live. Safford AZ has 1st Baptist and The River churches that promote this very type of prayer. We thank God we have found these churches and the good fellowship we have there.

“But when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. When you pray go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. “ Matthew 6:5-8

I often talk to my Father in heaven about sorrow, joy, whatever. My struggle with corporate congregational prayer is that it seems to become full of self rather than the Holy Spirit. Pride too easily creeps in. So may we all guard our hearts when we pray corporately.

When the Church is purged, we’ll find all the fellowship we need. It’s the mixture that is disgusting. We have to understand how full of unbelievers our sugarcoated gospel preaching churches are.

That is the GOSPEL TRUTH Linda. That is why sadly I cannot find a church and am a lonely intercessor waiting on the Lord to lift me out of this wilderness experience,.

At last, somebody gets it! Sadly, most don’t understand prayer, the prayer of agreement, and praying God’s Word much less intercession. The small amount of prayer offered in most gatherings tells the tale and proves what I am saying is true. I have even had the experience of being shut out from praying in public gatherings, sad, but true.
Prayer though, is costly labor and takes or requires the whole man. The sacrifice of true intercession can at times be staggering and can even take a physical toll on the person, but thanks be to God, He always brings me through, His joy is always my strength!
So many are in such a hurry, haste in study, haste in prayer, both are fool’s errands, so they miss out of the beautiful blessing of just spending time in the presence of the Lord, miss out on Jesus revealing Himself in a deeper way, miss out when He manifests Himself and sadly, they miss the Lord altogether
Anyway, thank you for this article, I wept as I read it, and weep now as I write this.
Blessings and Peace to you all and to all who stand in the gap for others, and stay in the fight until the fight is over!

I am involved in 2 prayer groups plus praying with IFA and it gives me wings to soar. In the past there were many times only 4 that came. We prayed that The Lord would bring more to join us. He has answered and has brought 5 young people to join us in one group.

This is so needed. Should be so easy and natural, but has become hard because of division, jealousy, misunderstanding and offenses. Forgive us as we forgive. Help us come into the unity that You desire and have provided for us…as Jesus prayed…that we may be one as He and the Father are one. Then let the miracles begin!!

Father God,
Please put a sense of commitment into Christians to make prayer a top priority, not just something to do if there is nothing else going on. Somehow, God, wake up pastors of churches to the power in and importance of prayer so they lead their congregations like a good shepherd.
Revive Your church, LORD!
Father, I have seen doctors who have been awakened to how badly they were misled in medical school by the influence of big pharma drug companies.
I pray that pastors who have gone through seminaries which taught false doctrines and were greatly influenced by secular world views will also be delivered from deception. Father God, we NEED pastors who will establish prayer meetings in their congregations and then will come to those meetings and praying. If they want to be a leader, then they need to lead by example.
Father, I pray for every pastor who has a heart’s desire to serve You, that You will show them clearly and with great emphasis that prayer is the most powerful weapon in our spiritual battles. From time spent in prayer You will give us the strategies and strength we need to cause Your will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
You love Your children and You know our need. Help us become the family You can be proud of and who will be filled with the wisdom and power of Your Holy Spirit in Jesus Name
Amen.

Yes, I see a need for intercessors in churches today, more in some churches than others. I love to pray and I join two Zoom prayer meetings weekly. I also pray for others when I am working out in the gym.

I would love to know about a spirit filled zoom meeting. I live in a wilderness area in Newfoundland Canada which is rapidly becoming a communist country – many are not aware of this but our PM is a communist. Most of the people in this Province have fallen away into apostasy and we cannot find a church that teaches the Word of God. I am a lonely intercessor. Perhaps IFA will forward my e-mail to you and it would be possible for me to be in touch via zoom with some other intercessors.

Frances. I want you to know that the Christians here in America love Canada and it’s people and most specifically, our Christian brothers and sisters . I am not alone in saying that Canada , it’s current leaders and God’s children are prayed for on a daily basis.
Take heart sister because God sees you and your big , hungry and beautiful heart for Him and He is going to answer the desires of your heart.
Here in the states we are keeping our eyes on your communist leaders and really praying that many of them will come to know the love and hope of God and for those who reject God to be removed from their positions and for God to replace them with His own children.
We know it looks bad for Canada and for America and that the wicked are in control for a season but don’t give up ! God is greater than the greatest and most powerful of any countries leaders.
Father ,in Jesus Holy and most precious name we ask that you would comfort your daughter Frances and that you would make a way for her to have prayer partners and intercessors to pray and be in agreement with. I ask Father that you would pour your love, hope and joy into Frances as you take her through this walk,
We ask you Heavenly Father that you would remove those who rule over Canada’s Government and replace them with Godly men and women who love you and desire to do your will for Canada and her precious people. Praise and all glory be to you Father in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
      God bless you Frances.

Excellent article, Jamie. This is something that the Lord has put on my heart for quite awhile now.I believe that the Enemy has been allowed to lull American Christianity to sleep, leading us to believe that there is nothing that we can do about the terrible things that are happening around us. This is so vital that we wake up, tell satan where he can go (back to Hell, where he belongs), and take up our rightful authority as believers. Prayer meetings need to spring up greatly. Perhaps, this will help to usher in the revival that we so desperately need in this nation. Thank You, Lord Jesus.

As the time for the second is around the corner, this has been invaluable to me and I thank you. It has been received with a great response. Your wording is most helpful to me and it will be acknowledged as to its source. God give you every blessings on your blessed work.

Impossible to write about intercession without giving out “Rees Howells Intercessor” by Norman Grubb as a resource. True intercession is a death sport. It killed Rees after he altered the course of WW2. Every intercessor in the Bible made it life and death also, offering up their own life.

When I first started teaching in the late 70s, if it was suggested that a school get-together or event be on a Wednesday night, someone would remind the others of how churches met on Wednesday nights, and the event would be changed to a different night. This was in a public school! Unfortunately, somewhere along the line the local church stopped meeting on Wednesday nights. The same goes for school sports. They used to never have games on Sunday.

We must remember, and this point is vital, the apostles who prayed together in that upper room where of one accord. They had one desire, one mission, and one doctrine. The plethora of doctrines we see in the christian world today testify to how far we have drifted from the church of Acts 2. If we want true revival, we must return to the teachings of Jesus, (which includes His moral law) discarding the array of unbiblical teachings of men. An attempted unity based on anything else is simply presumption.
