Pray for V.P. Kamala Harris
The Biden/Harris administration has been in the White House for nearly 18 months. President Biden and Vice President Harris have overseen evil policies and executive orders (and there is more in the works) that grieve Americans, the church, and, certainly, the Lord.
I confess that at times I have found it hard to pray as I should, just as I found it hard during the Obama administration. During that time, the Lord dealt with my heart for my bitterness and lack of prayer. I could not separate the person from the evil policies. I vowed never to make that mistake again — and yet, honestly, I find myself once again struggling to pray for our current leadership.
Many Christians face the same challenge. Some refuse to pray for President Biden and Vice President Harris, because they cannot separate the policies (which are evil) from Biden and Harris as people. We are not to support any policies that are unbiblical, but let us remember that Biden and Harris are people Jesus died to save, like us. God is merciful, and He is giving them a chance to repent and turn from their evil ways, just as He is doing for all mankind.
The Lord does not delay [as though He were unable to act] and is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is [extraordinarily] patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
(2 Peter 3:9 AMP)
Thankfully, the Lord reminds me in His Word that it is His will that we pray for our leaders. This does not mean that we necessarily agree with everything they stand for, but we can nonetheless approach the throne and pray for their salvation while they are in office.
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people — for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
(1 Timothy 2:1–4 NIV)
The Lord burdened my heart to intercede for Vice President Harris on several occasions. In times of prayer, I am redirected by the Holy Spirit to pray specifically for her.
Writing this now, I feel an urgent burden to pray for her salvation, and I’m asking you to join with me in believing that nothing is too hard for God.
- Pray for Vice President Harris’ eyes, mind, and heart to be unveiled and open to the truth of the gospel message, her only hope.
If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing. Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.
(2 Corinthians 4:3,4 NLT)
- Pray that she will seek and call upon the Lord.
Seek the Lord while he may be found;
call upon him while he is near;
let the wicked forsake his way,
and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him,
and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
(Isaiah 55:6-7 ESV)
- Pray for the vice president’s staff and those with close access to give her wise counsel.
Listen to counsel and accept discipline,
That you may be wise the rest of your days.
Many plans are in a man’s heart,
But the counsel of the Lord will stand.
(Proverbs 19:20,21 NASB)
- Ask the Lord to speak to her in dreams and visions.
For God speaks again and again,
though people do not recognize it.
He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on people
as they lie in their beds. He whispers in their ears and terrifies them with warnings.
He makes them turn from doing wrong; he keeps them from pride.
He protects them from the grave,
from crossing over the river of death.
(Job 33:14–18 NLT)
- Pray for protection of Vice President Harris and her family. Let any evil schemes against her be exposed.
In times of trouble, may the LORD answer your cry. May the name of the God of Jacob keep you safe from all harm.”
(Psalms 20:1 NLT)
Let’s pray together:
Lord, Forgive me for not praying for our leaders as You asked me to. Forgive me for letting my personal opinions hinder my prayers. Help me to remember Your sovereignty. You allowed this administration in, so even though I don’t understand, that doesn’t change who You are and what You are longing to accomplish through this.
I pray for this administration, and I pray specifically for Vice President Harris. Lord, I pray that You would remove the veil from her heart and that she might come to know Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Open her spiritual eyes that she would see Jesus Christ in dreams. Warn her about evil ways, that she might repent and turn away from them.
Protect the vice president and her family from anyone who might be scheming or plotting against her.
I pray for her and her team — send prophets, prophetic people, and Spirit-filled believers their way to get the word of the Lord to her.
Penetrate the hardest places, removing a stony heart. Give her a heart of flesh that will seek to do Your will above any other agenda. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
