In the middle of the night, at 2:23 a.m. on March 21, 2024, the House of Representatives released the text of the latest, $1.2 trillion “minibus,” spending package. It was passed by the Senate Friday night and signed into law by President Biden Saturday morning, March 23, 2023.
Line items in this spending bill include some surprising uses of taxpayer funds, such as homes for “gay senior citizens” and funding for DEI-inspired zoo exhibits. We provide a few details about this below.
The critical thing for intercessors is knowing how to pray and being able to discern the spiritual issues. There are hundreds of articles online telling you what is in the bill. This article focuses on scriptural prayer points.
Pray about debt spending.
“The price tag for this deal is $30 billion MORE than we had under Nancy Pelosi and would add to our $34.5 trillion national debt” (Citizens for Renewing America).
The Lord spoke blessings on the nation of Israel through Moses in Deuteronomy 28:1–14. These blessings include principles that are true for any nation today.
The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow (Deuteronomy 28:12).
The U.S. does in fact lend to many nations, but we also borrow from other nations. According to Investopedia:
- The Bureau of the Fiscal Service classifies national debt in two ways: intragovernmental debt and debt held by the public.
- Over three-quarters of the total national debt is public debt, which includes Treasury holdings by foreign countries.
- Japan is the largest foreign holder of public U.S. government debt, owning $1.1 trillion in debt as of October 2023.
- China ranks second in total U.S. debt owned by foreign countries, with the U.K., Luxembourg, and the Cayman Islands rounding out the top five.
Pray about taxpayer funding of corrupt and immoral programs.
Citizens for Renewing America says: “This deal would fund the government through the end of 2024, including woke and weaponized programs that had been removed during the appropriations fight. Included in the minibus is funding for DEI, Title 1, “climate resilience” programs, and more.”

Will we be judged for our money being used on things that are an abomination to God? What about frivolous programs?
Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who delights greatly in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches will be in his house, and his righteousness endures forever (Psalm 112:1–3).
Both parties are complicit in overspending, and citizens too.
But scrambling for tax dollars to bring back to home states and districts is something politicians of both parties do. Even congressional representatives and senators who are pro-life, pro-family, and pro-religious freedom are numbered among those who work hard for funding of programs in their regions. To change the way government works and spends will require all of us, the voters/taxpayers/citizens, to say no even to projects within our own districts. We must fundamentally change the way we think about government spending and recognize how we are all a part of it.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows (1 Timothy 6:10).
Here’s an idea: Go to your congressional representative’s website and see what projects are listed as a result of their work in Congress. Let them know you want to be part of the solution to government overspending, not part of the problem.
As we have prayed for America, the Lord has revealed the sin of greed as a kind of national sin that dates back to the nation’s first settlers from England in Virginia and elsewhere. Let’s repent of this sin, personally and nationally.
Pray for Speaker Johnson.
When Speaker Johnson was selected, IFA reported on the unlikely events that put this Christian man in that high position. You can read all about it in the article “God at Work in the Speaker Race.” Many are calling him all sorts of things because of this bill. Now is not the time to forsake him. Now is the time to pray even more for him. The prayer points God gave IFA board member Cynthia Dunbar before Johnson’s selection are profoundly applicable now: “Johnson will need to be bold, to walk in strength tempered in grace, and to be equipped to speak forth words of hope over our nation.”

I’m in DC & recently handed Speaker Johnson a note containing prayers that are being prayed for him: For confident wisdom, creative strategies, inspired powers of persuasion, a spirit that is ever receptive to His Spirit, rock solid clarity & faith in His priorities, & the courage to do what is right by Him. (Add to that clear perspective, and the support of others.) He is in a very tough, thankless situation. Please give him a spine of steel, Lord.
Heavenly Father, I pray the blood of Jesus over our government and other governments around the world. That they turn back to God and rebuke Satan and all his evil works.
Lord you alone are good. All of your decrees and laws are altogether righteous. May we as a nation call upon You to make your ways our ways. Let not our hearts rush to judgment of others when we don’t agree with them. Lord our hearts are inclined to evil and wrongdoing, so it is no surprise that our laws are reflecting bills that dishonor You and Your ways. Please remove the hardness of heart, and the ears that no longer hear so people will humble themselves before You. Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Amen

Amen! Such confirmation from the Lord in this article! Praying for wisdom for our government about how they utilize this spending package. We have had bills go the wrong way in my state, and as I have sought the Lord on this, I keep hearing that the power of the spirit of mammon (love of money) needs to be broken over the state and the nation. The votes of many legislators in the states and in DC, on bills and decisions are being bought. Let’s pray this will be broken, fear of God come to our nation, and repentance, and stand in the gap in interventional repentance for our states and nation as intercessors!🙏
We prayed for God’s leader in the House. But then once that prayer seemed to be answered, we forgot to continue to pray for the one appointed. Capitol Hill has clearly become a place of tremendous corruption.
Lord, forgive me for failing to pray for Speaker Johnson to have the strength to stand against the assault of the enemy and his minions.
Father God have mercy on our leaders. Take the blinders off of their eyes and hearts. Strengthen those that stand for righteousness and justice. Let not the enemy triumph over us, let none that trust in You be made a shamed, in Jesus name, I praise and thank you.

So, now we keep praying for better measures, a reversal, difficulty getting the money they wanted, I just do not know. Oh Lord our God knows who is guilty, and why. We can not repent for someone else’s sins, just our own And, yes as one
body in Jesus Christ we can repent of our congregational sins…but, I ‘m feeling like our Nation is not one under God and many have led it down hill and away from God.

I have been praying for speaker Johnson. Unfortunately, this giving in on the spending is so egregious that I don’t think he has the best interest of America in mind. I pray that his eyes would be opened up to what he is really doing, and that he would realize that God has raised him up to stand in the gap at this time.
Makes me wonder if he was threatened, either that or a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Father raise someone up with authprity and influence to protest spending more millions and billions we dont have and cant pay so that other countries who own our debt cant own US someday due to inability to pay. Mr. Johnson is a wimp like the others. If Johnson followed the methods of Newt Gingrich and forced the issues with a government shutdown, Biden’s hand would be tied. Repeat shutdowns if necessary; Clinton got the message and so would Biden.
The house Republicans our suppose to keep from these spending sprees. They are spending us into oblivion. It is all according to the globalists who are putting pressure on them through bribes and threats to kill them (Yes, they do those things). We do borrow much of our money from China (The CCP). A train that has lost control going down a steep mountain can not stop the train because it is completely out of control. I think that is what we are dealing with now. The metaphor of the runaway train is a possible way of looking at this. In the mean time we need to pray for the country once this runaway train crashes up ahead. Remember the Biden slogan which President Clinton used as well, Build Back Better? Well it means to destroy the country and then build it again in the image of the Satanic world elites; antichrist agenda. The time is near. The Kingdom of God is at hand. We need to be prepared. Lord keep us from evil in this hour of testing as a nation.
Lord I pray you would help American believers to come into alignment with your Word in their financial affairs. The “average” American Christian gives a mere 2.5-3 % of their money to the Kingdom of God according to recent statistics. How can we resist the devil when we’re not submitting to God ourselves? The Biblical tithe is 10% and tithing is an eternal principle under Yeshua’s Melchizedek Priesthood. See Genesis 14, Hebrews 7, Malachi 3.6-12. Help us to be faithful to tithe and then give more than 10% Lord. In this way, we will be able to overcome the devourer and Glorify your Holy Name.
Lord Jesus, you know how atronomical our national debt has become. Reckless spending by our government MUST stop, before our nation is ruined. Sending aid to foriegn nations is a nice gesture, but we can’t continue to do so. We just don’t have money to send to other countries. All of these ridiculous line items, like money to pay for Egyptian education, need to not happen. Lord Jesus, I pray that this middle-of-the night spending bill will be defeated soundly in the Senate. I also pray for Speaker Johnson. Father God, I remember when the Israelites asked for a king. You warned of the cost of a king rather than hearing from You directly as Moses did. We are appealing to heaven for justice, mercy, righteousness from the corruption we see and hear every day and are paying for with taxes that only increase from the schools, cities, townships, counties, parishes, states and federal levels. We have truly sinned and realize You are our only Source for change as we repent. We must do as Jeremiah 1: 9-10 says. Without a plan people lose hope, without a plan we are lost. Bring us back to Truth and begin to re-establish Your original design for this nation…One Nation Under God indivisible with Liberty and Justice for All.
I too believe that we as a nation and calling ourselves Christians, are reaping the sorrows of thinking certain people in power will solve the sin of our nation with its consequences. The ugliness of our last few elections has been shameful. The fact that we are overlooking the sin and moral failures of Mr Trump and asking God to put him back in power grieves my heart just as much as the increase in moral failures under Mr Biden. Israel got exactly what it asked for – TO BE LIKE THE NATIONS AROUND THEM.
Our prayers should reflect that no matter who is in power, we need to pray for them to bend their knees before the Almighty Lord and confess with their lips that “Jesus is Lord” To do less is to be guilty of sin ourselves by not loving our neighbors as ourselves.
God doesn’t need us to bring about His plans, but He does ask us to be faithful in our walk and prayers as His plans unfold as told in scripture.
Lord, I thank you that these items in this spending bill are being brought out onto the open. May ALL of our eyes, ears, and hearts be open to see and know the evil spirits behold the most egregious items – teaching our children to deny their very existence as having been created and dryermined by You. Denying the right of living to those most dependent on basic human needs. Putting Your creation on a pedestal to be honored greater than You.
O God forgive us our sins and show speaker Johnson his role in Your plan. I believe that You placed him as speaker so that he would put a stop to all frivolous spending and all spending that is against Your teachings. We need to return to bring a Christian nation. God will not bless those who do not follow His commands. Just in my lifetime I’ve seen our country accept abortion, gays, transgenders, lack of respect for our elders, free sex, worshipping money and things, lack of teaching children about God, lack of discipline, hate abounding, lack of love for others, theft, murders, no family time like families sitting down to eat together and talk about their day, no respect for those who sacrifice their very lives for others like police and firemen even parents. We must relearn what real love is, worship our one true God, be thankful for what He has provided that we really don’t deserve, serve each other, forgiveness.
Father God, I pray for Speaker Mike Johnson for wisdom and discernment in regard to decisions made about our government money. Lord, we pray that You step in today to take the wheels off of this wretched “minibus”. Place an angel of the Lord “in the way” that this bill would be blocked as currently written, and in the same way that Balaam’s donkey would not move forward, we ask that these wheels of injustice not move forward. We pray for clarity and divine wisdom for lawmakers who are sincerely intending to make the best decision possible. Lord almighty I pray that this bill will not pass. Stir the souls of those who vote and warn them not to pass this bill. It will not help the people they serve. I pray that you will bring sanity back into the ruling bodies of our nation. We ask forgiveness for the wrong choices these legislators are making. Change their heart, oh God.
Come Holy Spirit, Come! Infiltrate your presence into the lives of these brain dead, no good, do nothing, corrupt politicians! Activate their minds, Lord! Establish in them the mind of Christ!
