I Prayed have prayed
Father, give us grace to accept the results of this election.

Let me ask you two very profound questions: What if your presidential candidate actually wins? Consider that for a moment and then ponder this: What if your presidential candidate actually loses? If you think these are simple questions with simple answers then you haven’t been paying attention for the last several months. Your response as a believer in the aftermath of this election may have a far greater impact on the Kingdom and this nation than any political decision or legislation that passes with the signature of the winning candidate.

Many experts are calling the election of 2020 the most pivotal election since Abraham Lincoln ran against General George McClennan in 1864 — a time when the Civil War was raging and our nation was every bit as divided. Just as was the case over 155 years ago, when all the votes were counted, there was a winner and there was a loser. But to ignore the aftermath of that election would be a grave error. While Lincoln won easily, the nation remained divided and more than 700,000 men and civilians were killed in a battle that pitted neighbor against neighbor, brother against brother, and citizen against citizen.  . . .

While the actual winner of the 2020 presidential race has yet to be determined, there are two things we do know right now: There will be a winner and there will be a loser. Today, more than any time in modern history, and because of technology and media coverage we are afforded, the stakes have never been higher.  . . . .

Like so many personal decisions, and certainly for this election, wisdom says that it’s better to decide what your response will be before the actual moment occurs when the victor is declared, with a cooler head and with prayer, than to wait until you are in the heat of the moment and emotions are raging. After all, these aren’t small issues at stake and many issues on the ballot hold very little room, if any, for middle ground.

What will you do if your candidate wins? How will it affect you if your candidate loses? How will either of these outcomes affect your relationship to friends and family who are on the other side? Consider these weighty questions before the emotion of the moment comes rushing in like a flood and you say or do something you regret, or worse yet, withdraw in such a way that changes your spiritual trajectory or significantly decreases your influence on a lost and dying world. . . . .

One thing I do know for certain if your candidate wins is this — your ability to reach those whose candidate just lost will be much harder because their loss is greater.  Consider that when the football is yours to spike and you are about to do your end zone dance. What will your Facebook post say? What will you do on Instagram and Twitter? I can promise you this – those who just suffered a great loss will be watching, and your influence with anyone that thinks differently than you will be hanging in the balance. . . .

Before that moment arrives, do like David did at Ziklag: step back and inquire of the Lord. Ask God how He would want you to respond. Will this be about you and your need to be “right” or will it cause you to pray for those who may consider you their enemy now? Can you empathize with people who may feel like they have lost everything that mattered to them, even when you feel as though you have won everything you hold dear? Your response matters more than you might have imagined and it’s not your candidate that’s on trial in the moments following the election results —it’s your witness and your influence.

What If Your Candidate Loses?

What if your candidate loses? Will you be able to handle that moment, knowing God is ultimately in control, or will the loss be such a blow that it will cause you to be bitter and withdraw? Will you feel like all is lost and your God failed you or will you declare, “Not my will but thine oh Lord?”  Will you feel abandoned? Will you be angry?

Here’s a tough one: will you see the winner as a person God has set in place and honor the position or will you declare, “Not my president!?”  Our response in seasons where God does not seem to come through are critical moments in the development of our faith because we are challenged to have faith when we cannot see the why or the reason.

For so many, and even in the church, this election feels like such a “do or die” moment. It feels, just like it did in 2016, that the very trajectory of our nation hangs in the balance. But as believers we must never lose sight of the fact that it is God who determines our trajectory — not an election.

There is a great story found in Joshua chapter 5. After forty years wandering in the wilderness, Joshua led the people of God across the Jordan River and they camped just miles from their greatest victory and the fulfillment of God’s promise. As they camped there, what appeared to be a man with a sword drawn suddenly stood before Joshua. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?” The response of the angel is one that I believe is prophetic for our situation today and Joshua’s response should be our response in the aftermath of this election.

First: The “man” standing there turned out to be an angel – the commander of the Lord’s army. His response was simple. “Neither,” he replied. The implication was certain. He was not on Joshua’s side nor was he on the side of those encamped inside the walls of Jericho. He was on the Lord’s side.  “Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the Lord’s army I have now come.”

The Lord hears our prayers and He sends His angels in response to every situation just as He has for this election — but not to be on one side or the other — they are on His side for His purposes. . . .

Second: Joshua’s response was our example. Joshua fell face down to the ground in reverence and asked him, “What message does my Lord have for his servant?”

What a powerful image of the response we should have in the aftermath of this election whether our candidate wins or loses to fall face down to the ground and ask, “What message does my Lord have for his servant?” This is the response that brings healing. This is the posture that the Lord can use to bridge the division and bring peace where violence was about to spring up. This is the response that attracts the attention of our God and dispatches angels on our behalf.

What will those who voted differently than you read when they see your social media posts or see you at the market or even at church next week? Will they see you in all your glory and splendor if you won, or agony, anger, and despair if you’ve lost? Will they find an open hand or a fist pumped in the air declaring victory? I’d like to offer a better way. Let them see Jesus — and a peace that passes all understanding. Let them sense genuine compassion and appreciation. Let them see you worship in brokenness and humility if you’ve won and in victory and joy if you’ve lost. Don’t wait until that moment when the election results have been determined to simply react in your flesh. . . .

The weight of this moment in history is enormous, but so is the opportunity. What if your side wins? What if your side loses? Who will you be? Who will the world see? Let them see Jesus and arms big enough to embrace those who see the world differently than you do.

Our response should be to continue to fight to put God back in our country.

Wow! That is a powerful set of statements. It is extremely meaningful to me as I have a tendency to react at the last moment in a manner that is not Christlike. This will be one of the greatest challenges that God has set before me. I ask for God’s grace to handle the outcome as Christ would. I need everyone’s prayers to be with me to do what God and Christ wants.

Thank you. I certainly needed that! This morning I woke up with what is going to happen if the opponent of my candidate gets into office. All of the good that has been done will be undone. I even listed the things that will be different and wondered how we were going to survive as a nation.
Then, later today, I decided that any amount of worry was just making me sick, anxious, and a literal nervous wreck!
Why wasn’t I trusting God? I know that he is the one who appoints the kings/leaders of our country. I know that He can take what is meant for evil and make something beautiful out of it for His people who are called by His name.
“God, help me to trust you so deeply that worry will not be a part of my life!”

The important thing to remember is win or lose, God is in control. Whether my candidate loses or not, it is clearly time to get serious about praying for revival.

Lord, we your watchmen have been asleep and the enemy has done an end run. We repent of this and turn to you. Surely we can pray as earnestly for revival as we have for this election. Surely we can intercede on behalf of the innocent and the duped no matter who controls the government. Lord in order to create unity in our land we need to see you placed as the power to whom we owe allegiance. If we want this nation to be one under God, then we need revival. And that won’t happen without you. Forgive us and turn our hearts away from the things that kept us sleeping and towards you and your concerns.

In Jesus’ name we pray.

I did do some soul-searching about this issue and ultimately I want to put a smile on Jesus’ face and declare that God is good no matter what the result is. However I have a question maybe some of you can help me answer. I still want this to be my heart but this all came to me before it was so evident that there has been voter fraud to such a level that I cannot in good conscience be speaking agreement in any way shape or form if Joe Biden is declared the winner because I don’t believe that he is or will be. There has been too much controversy surrounding the possible/probable voter fraud that I cannot declare untruth, particularly in light of the prayer alert that came out Wednesday morning about not speaking words of death or giving strength to lies when the election has not yet been declared. And in view of the possible/probable voter fraud, I just don’t know how the election can be considered declared if Joe Biden is claimed to be the winner.

Thank you for this encouragement. I’ve also thought a lot about Joshua and what the angel of the Lord told him. I want to be on the Lord’s side, not a man’s, so whoever wins should have no effect on that truth. There is no room for gloating or anger/ despair.

Thank you so much for this beautiful message of truth. As a Christian and writer of nonfiction and fiction books, the message I do my very best to live and convey is God’s Will, Not Mine. These days I found myself asking the same question; What if my candidate doesn’t win, will I understand Almighty God that everything I passionately believe for 40 years has to be corrected in my life, now? But for some mysterious feeling of faith and love for us, I hear and believe, His Will be Done for the better part of us all with Hope closer in reach to live with God in our lives more freely and openly. God bless Us. God bless America. God bless our Messenger!

Thank you for this article. You touched on exactly the thoughts I have been having. I pray that God will show me the way. I struggle with those I see as doing the work of the devil. How do I bow down with humility while they are casting arrows? I can only ask God for his guidance. Praise the Lord.

Let us keep “fighting” in prayer and remember who the true enemy is – the one who came to kill, steal and destroy. But thanks be to God that Jesus came to give us life to the fullest and has overcome sin and death and THE evil one! One day everything in heaven and earth will be brought together under 1 head – not a president, but JESUS CHRIST! Until then, the outcome of the election will show us God’s mercy or judgement. We as a nation cannot continue the support of sacrificing babies, and calling evil good – even in the church. Even still, if we personally repent, humble ourselves and pray, then we know our God will forgive our sins and heal our land.

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Commander of the Lord’s Army is posed to bring us victory!

Victory here on earth, over death and all evil.

The next 7 days will be very difficult, like the walls of Jericho fell when the people shouted: “for the Lord has given you this city” the walls fell. The Lord has given us this country and evil will fall! The Lord has answered our prayers.

Father we circle this country in prayers for peace, with praise and devotion to be the salt and the light for Christ. Lord uncover their schemes and mute lies and deception. Stop this attempt to steal this election.

Thanks be to God!

Virginia and Georgia were called too early last night and Arizona. PA wants to allow ballots without names to be counted when PA went for the President. Voting machines broke down, voting areas wouldn’t let the GOP workers in to make sure everything was on the up and up. It’s obvious they are trying to steal this election. Losing is not an option when stealing is taking place in Jesus’s precious name. Lord Jesus, we come against this evil in your mighty name Father God. Freedoms are on the line. Amen.

Amen! This should be prayed regardless: Heavenly Father, we ask that honest weights and measures prevail in this election, and that all volunteers working to count the ballots would treat them as they would treat their own ballot.

No question, sister, you absolutely have the right attitude.

“Restore the election, Daddy, and the legal voters’ votes, in the Name of Jesus.”

“You, God, Yourself, get into the computers and the count and restore the original votes to the intents and purposes of the original voters, in the Name of Jesus!”

Methinks the honorable author of the article is doing too much conceding and not enough warring in the Spirit! This is not the time for concession. This is the time for war.

Even now when the presidential office hasn’t been decided, we see such diversity in other races and who won. So…it finally occured to me that the Intercessors job will continue simply because of existing rulers in the heavenly realm were allowed to remain while others were soundly defeated.
So.. we begin always with our prayer shield up, our armor on, Praise in our mouth and always asking for Wisdom in what to pray and how to pray as we stand together.
Blessings on each and your families..

My response to this article & to the election results is ‘God’s will be done.’ If the candidate who has in his platform to reject God & to kill innocent babies in the womb & after birth wins, I think Job had the response:“The Lord give the & the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 5:16, 17, 18 is a god resource for our response.

Thank you for this article. It’s good for us to think about. Another question has been heavy on my heart: What will I do if my candidates win or lose regarding prayer? Will I be as fervent and faithful to pray if the ones elected are the ones I’d hoped for? Or will I grow complacent? If the ones who win are not the candidates I support, will I faithfully pray for them and seek God’s wisdom and guidance in their lives and our nation? Or will I allow myself to become angry and feel hopeless and allow prayer to fall to the side? By the grace and with the help of Jesus and the Holy Spirit, I pray our Lord will keep me faithful to be the Jesus I must be to all those around me, remembering either way my heavenly Father is in control and only wants the best for His children. I may not recognize what that is, but He always does! To Him be the honor and glory and praise!

If this election goes the way of darkness, we will have to pray more fervently.

I struggle in this. I do not want to go through such vile persecution that will be unleashed.

I do not want this country to go through such demonstrated evil in the highest levels of our nation that will unleash evil across the world.

We will not be able to overcome on our own. I cannot overcome on my own.

Guard us Father, help us Father – to trust you, seek you, rely on you

Abortion is murder! The cold blooded murder of an innocent child. So why would I stand with anyone who stands for that? It’s sin and I’m calling it sin. But I’m not stopping there. I’m sharing the gospel that saves people from the punishment sin will bring on them. The gospel of Christ❣️ That’s why I voted the way I did. Amen to Pastor Franklin’s article! I’m reminded of the sacrifices and the extreme conditions our founders and forefathers endured for this country to exist in the name of freedom to worship our God. I can’t help but think we’ve come full circle. We have known God’s goodness in a huge way, and have been lax in dealing with sin in our country. Now-we must pay heed – I don’t believe things will be easy on us collectively as believers anymore in America because of it. Yet, I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. Thank you for this godly reminder! Romans 13:1-7 tells us to submit to authority. We are also commanded to pray for our leaders. Our hope is not in a party or a candidate, but only in Jesus Christ! He can use anything for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purposes. Let us run with endurance as Paul encouraged us and keep our eyes in the goal set before us. We are here for such a time as this!

Abba, I ask You to revive my hope in You alone, no matter what our circumstances are! You alone are the Lord Most High! Purify Your people. May we love You passionately, and serve You fervently! Purify our hearts and our motives! We were born for such a time as this. Transform is by Your word and in Your power and May Your plans and purposes be accomplished through us! You are the Lord of Hosts! You will never forsake us! Nothing is impossible with You. You do not grow weary! You give to Your people even in our sleep! Pour out Your Spirit upon all of us and bring about a revival in our nation and this world as has never been seen before! Come! Amen

It isn’t over yet and we have GOD ALMIGHTY on our side! “Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed.” HE is the same yesterday, today, and forever! HE will Never leave us or forsake us! Remember: “Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but GOD’S.” FATHER GOD we command every darkness regarding this election to come to the light in JESUS Name! Allow no cheating in JESUS MIGHTY Name! Bless the poll workers and all of the electoral college in JESUS Name! We thank YOU for President Trump who has fought so hard for us and America. I needed to read this. It makes me remember that we should set our mind on things above, not the things that are on the earth. God is still on His throne and what we should be concerned about is His Kingdom. The last couple days I have thought often of Jesus in the garden praying “Not My will, but Thine be done.” George Mueller, when praying about anything, first prayed until he had no will of his own, but only the Lord’s. I realize that I have not been doing that. “Father, we need Your grace to see us through this in a way that will honor You.”
