I Prayed have prayed
Lord, console any intercessor feeling the weight of loneliness. Comfort the grieving, and strengthen those who are overwhelmed.
Reading Time: 5 minutes

The end of the year can be an emotional time for many. What is supposed to be a joyous time of celebration and gathering together can sometimes bring feelings of grief and seasonal depression. We mourn the loss of loved ones who have passed. Some will mourn broken relationships with family members who have stopped speaking to them. This can be very lonely.

I decided to write this article about the intercessor Jesus Christ to show everyone that no matter what you face, you are never alone. Maybe what you are facing is fear of the future. Whatever you’re going through, Jesus understands you.

Join others crying out to the Lord day and night

For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning (Hebrews 4:15 AMPC).

Have you been wrestling with feelings of sorrow or grief? Jesus did (see Isaiah 53:3a).

Have you felt the painful sting of rejection from those you love? Jesus did (see Isaiah 53:3b).

Have you ever felt frustrated? Jesus did (see Mark 8:11:12).

Do you feel that God is distant from you? Jesus did (see Matthew 27:46).

Jesus Understands You

Not only does Jesus understand your weakness, but he also sympathizes with you. That’s something Old Testament high priests could never do, but Jesus can.

Jesus was fully God and man while He was on earth. Several translations say He was touched by our infirmities. This means He shared our feelings of frailty, weakness, and even illness. He felt the same emotions we do.

Although we know Jesus as the Lion of Judah and the victorious one, He was also called the man of sorrows, in Isaiah 53.  He was acquainted with grief, that is, He was familiar with it. He understands your tears, your trials, and your suffering. There is nothing we feel or walk through that Jesus didn’t. He was even tempted, just as we are, except that He remained sinless. This is why He is the Great High Priest, the perfect intercessor.

Jesus Is Praying For You

The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them (Hebrews 7:23–25 ESV).

Yes, you read that right. Jesus Christ is praying for you. Intercession is a daunting task at times. We feel burdened for the lost. We feel grief over injustice. We labor long in prayer. In the Spirit, we are on the front lines praying for major issues, all while fighting private battles for ourselves and our loved ones too. When we co-labor with Him in prayer, we become burden bearers. We feel the weightiness of our prayer assignments. It can be weary at times. Jesus understands because He bore our sins and burdens. Because He understands, He lives to intercede for us.

Jesus Is Your Defender

Other words for intercessor include “a go-between,” “a mediator,” and “an advocate.”

I will focus on the intercessor-advocate connection. When we hear advocate, we might normally think of a lawyer or a counselor, someone who comes to our defense. And this embodies who Jesus the intercessor actually is.

We have need of an advocate, because the Bible warns that there is an “accuser of the brethren” — Satan — who accuses God’s people day and night.

Satan’s end game involves wearing down the saints until we give up or give in (see Daniel 7:25).

But somebody is praying for you — and that somebody is Jesus Christ. He comes to our defense. He pleads our case by reminding God of His great sacrifice for humankind:

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV).

God no longer sees you as who you were. That person was crucified with Christ. God now sees you as righteous.

Jesus will never plead the Fifth on your behalf, because He pleads His own blood.

He is your advocate, and He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother (see Proverbs 18:24). People may abandon you or reject you, but He never will. He promises to be with us until the very end (see Matthew 28:20). So, don’t give up!

We are new creations in Christ: The old has gone, and the new has come (see 2 Corinthians 5:17).

Intercession Lessons From Jesus

In over 35 instances across the four Gospels, we read of Jesus praying. Sometimes He would pray for His disciples. He went about praying for and healing the sick, and He blessed children, too.

There were also many times Jesus spent time alone. He modeled a lifestyle of prayer. He often taught his disciples about it. Jesus was always in prayer mode, and He was always ready. I believe this is why His ministry was so effective: It was saturated in prayers.

Jesus understood that prayer is our lifeline. It’s so much more than petitions and supplications, though those are important. It is your direct line to communion with God. It’s your invitation to enter the veil into the secret place with God and to enter His rest. The secret place is where we find comfort, protection, and everything we will ever need.

Intercessors Need Other Intercessors

Jesus bid Peter, James, and John to watch and pray with Him in Gethsemane (see Matthew 26:38). Though Jesus prayed alone many times, He sometimes also invited His disciples to join Him. He had a small group of close followers. Even Jesus needed fellowship.

Intercession can feel very lonely at times. We already know that Jesus is praying for us. We intercessors also need friends and community. If Jesus had His own close friends (Mary, Martha, Lazarus, and others) and His 12 disciples (whom He called to be apostles), we too can have friends. If we had no need of other intercessors, why would Jesus live to make intercession for us?

Join others crying out to the Lord day and night

We Can All Start Somewhere

Community is important for all believers. Perhaps you do not at this time have a home church, though. You may have some serious health issues or there may be extenuating circumstances preventing you from getting to church. But some Christians have chosen to forgo church fellowship because they have been hurt or offended by otherelievers. Some sort of regular connection to other believers, however, is crucial.

I once interviewed a mature intercessor who made the effort to hold regular phone calls for prayer with four friends (some of them in different states) during the COVID pandemic, when churches were shut down. This telephone prayer group saw miracles and answers to their prayers. Maybe that is something you can do if anything is preventing your regular church attendance for now.

IFA has worked and is still working to strengthen the intercessor community. There are so many ways you can get involved. Find your state’s IFA prayer group and join with other intercessors in your area to pray over local and national issues. And IFA has recently launched something called The Community, through which intercessors can come together virtually to share with one another. Find out what’s happening right now, by checking out IFA’s Community Page.

Intercessors, let’s keep praying! Your ministry of prayer is so needed, and it is important for seeing God’s work get done in America and among the nations.

Thank you, Gloria, for this, wonderfully encouraging article for intercessors. Yes, we need each other, my prayer partner, and I pray for the intercessors often.
Dear Jesus, help us to be drawn to those prayer relationships designed by you to bring healing, hope and deliverance to those around us. Thank you above all things that you are Our intercessor present with us, teaching us, and leading us in your ways of intercession.
For those who are needing healing, I pray all will keep pressing in for health, and be connected to other believers who can be a source of help in time of need.
In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen

Thank you for your words of encouragement . There are so many needs of many people to uphold in prayer. Which we want to pray for and see positive results. Thank you Lord that you are there and that you understand every feeling that we have, of loneliness, of loss of family members, of those who are not speaking to us, and that we pray for them because we love them. Thank you that you care for us, because we really need it🙏🙏🙏

Well, this article is definitely about me. Except for the part about laboring long in prayer..
I admire so many of the prayer posts here that are so well written and they do inspire me.
The good news for me is I found out in 2007 when I was 53 years old why I have been what one pastor termed ” a classic underachiever”
It is due to a childhood trauma that I found out about in 2007, when I was 53 years old.
Unfortunately for me my biological father decided to not inform me of this event but instead informed my daughter when she became an adult. And then she informed to me
The damage has long since been done..and it took until the year 2020 & then going forward one more year, until 2021-,to begin to take some kind of action against- or to resolve it. As many Christians and Believers have said- not every infirmity or spiritual malady has a demonic attachment-.
While that is true.. many of them do.
I just completed an online Deliverance course from Pastor Vlad Savchuk,-,and I was very grateful for it.
It seemed to have an impact and definitely required some effort on my part., which of course is good, – except even in light of the community here and the prayers offered-,it has heretofore been really hard to find anyone to help to dig me out of being spiritually bound-, I have even heard many times- even in person- one time from a pastor, that we just have to “get rid of that thing”.. indicating that we do it on our own.
As the church becomes more mature and more willing to realize and accept the reality of the spiritual World in our lives-, and its effect on us-, and we are drawn by the Lord to press on to
revival -,as even someone like me takes on more of a commitment to accept hardship.. which admittedly I am mainly responsible for.. ( although I also confess I feel like I need to say that-, because it is quite popular to admonish people for blaming their childhood)….. ….hopefully the holy spirit will be able to change people’s hearts and minds from being reticent and scared and in denial.. to being accepting and bold and understanding about spiritual matters-, and not only being salt and light in our communities.. and local governments-, but also being willing to express our worship openly.. more and more-, even in churches where there is peer pressure to not do that.

Dear Hj – Your testimony is precious! I too have experienced deliverance, from trauma during my birth and childhood. It took many years to unravel the threads of what held me in bondage, and to bring me into freedom – but God was faithful!! He revealed my need; taught and instructed me in His Word and by His Spirit; led me to those in the body who could help me; led me to excellent books and resources that informed my spiritual battle; and enabled me to recognize the error so prevalent in the teaching of the church regarding deliverance. Now, if the church will quit pretending the need doesn’t exist today, and as you said allow Holy Spirit to “change people’s hearts and minds from being reticent and scared and in denial” – we will see Spirit empowered believers ‘turning the world upside down’ or as I like to say ‘right side up’! Thank you for your transparency!

One thing i like about IFA is you stick to intercession predominantly and dont peddle merchandise and books or alot of teaching. I also like that it is online so it is more private, you arent distracted like at church by church drama, people wailing and praying loudly in tongues, church fashionistas, crying children, and church attention seekers, etc. Keeping this ministry intercession focused fulfills Jesus words about making the temple a house of prayer. You lay out the current events issues, describe the prayer need, and even suggest a prayer, and allow comments and prayers there on the spot. This ministry has made it so much easier for me to know what to pray for and to pray more overall, and pray more over current events and politicians (prior my prayers were mostly for me and my family). I look forward to getting these emails and it is my sabbath practice to pray through each issue presented. Thank you for this ministry and answering the call of God to make this ministry a house of prayer.

Yes I agree, intercessors need each other to pray in agreement with Heaven and bringing it down to earth. I thank God for Jesus’ example as our High Priest and King of the universe to keep our armor on as directed and to have his love, mercy and authority to do what He’s called us to do in this time and season.

I thank you so much for sharing this article. It is a reminder to me of the almost 7 years of prayer that I prayed for my son and his family to come back to me. There was great chaos after my mother passed away and he cut off communication and I did not hear from my grand daughters. Holidays were hard for me. I felt ashamed and lonely, detached. Thank God for my daughter and her family who kept me close. My mother was my best friend and when she passed away I grieved her loss, my brother passed the same year, my only sibling. I felt a little like Job. Mass destruction came. I don’t know how I made it through that heartbreaking time other than the grace and love of Jesus. It is important to pray for intercessors. I prayed for almost 7 years, some are praying much longer for breakthrough and some never see that occur. As an intercessor, I can say that we pray not only for today and its problems but into the future to cover our family, communities, nation and world. We may never see our prayers answered, but stay on the wall because God requires the Kingdom be about prayer.

This is actually speaking to me this day. I struggled to get out of bed this morning at my usual time. I did after 15 minutes decide I needed to get into prayer and break that stronghold. I have a wonderful husband who is not on board with me in prayer. I believe we would make a great team as he is a believer BUT he still hangs on to earthly things/ideas. He seems to get angry when I pull my bible out during the day. Frustrating and discouraging for me. I ask that you join me in praying for a refreshing for myself and for my husband to hunger for Jesus. So that we may pray together. And possibly do greater work’s. I pray this in Jesus mighty name. Amen and Amen

Cheryl, my heart goes out to you. Actually I think it might be less stressful if your husband was not a believer in your circumstance. I think that in light of his being actually a Believer and more stress because of the obvious challenge there..
Lord I Thank you for Cheryl’s honesty and her Compassionate Heart for you.. Lord thank you for providing a way for us to express our needs and that we can pray for each other here.. we do not understand why things are so hard -,& many times, even more so when object of our concern is a believer that is not supporting us .. especially a family member.
It is even more discouraging to see that many times and even often that these problems and challenges and even seemingly evils.. do not stop at one part of our life like the sea stopping at the shoreline-, but the spiritual maladies wash right up onto our lives.. ignoring all boundaries. So I pray you have mercy on Cheryl-,and I pray you especially touch her husband’s heart.. that he would see that his resentment is something from the evil one.
Such lukewarmness has infiltrated the entire body of Believers that many have succumbed to it. Lord please connect to Cheryl’s husband in his heart according to come to you on his knees in repentance.
    In Jesus mighty Name, Amen

Cheryl – I certainly understand your struggle! Interestingly, when the LORD began calling me into intercession, my husband was being called too. Sometimes, I would not get the full picture of what God was revealing until I asked him to seek the LORD with me. However, he did not respond to the call as enthusiastically as I had hoped. After many years of a sometimes grudging participation on his part, he has become a full-time team player. Husband-wife teams (like Rich and Joyce) can make quite an impact in intercession, I believe, so I stand with you 100% in your request. I provoke you to a Godly jealousy – if I can experience it, so can you! Our God is able and beyond willing to draw him to hunger and thirst for righteousness!
