Michigan’s closely watched Senate race is drawing national attention after prominent Democrats announced they will support Republican nominee Mike Rogers rather than Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed. Their defections highlight an intensifying debate within the Democratic Party over the influence of democratic socialism and the direction of the party following El-Sayed’s primary victory.

Another Democratic official has come out against the Michigan party’s controversial nominee for the senate, Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, and is endorsing Republican Mike Rogers in the November general election, Politics & Poll Tracker reported.
Michael La Rosa, who served as press secretary for none other than First Lady Jill Biden, threw his support behind the former Republican congressman Friday morning.
LaRosa posted the following quote on his X account:
“After decades of giving my all for Democratic House and Senate candidates, this fall I will support — and contribute to — Mike Rogers, Michigan’s GOP Senate nominee, instead. And I’ll do everything I can to make sure other Democrats follow.”
The statement LaRosa shared originally came from longtime Democratic attorney Julian Epstein, a former chief counsel for the House Judiciary Committee. Epstein publicly announced his support for Rogers in a New York Post op-ed following El-Sayed’s victory in Michigan’s Democratic primary.
Epstein framed his decision as a response to what he sees as the growing influence of democratic socialism within his party. He argued that Democrats have failed to confront ideological movements on their left and specifically criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s defense of the Democratic Party as a “big tent.”
El-Sayed’s nomination has brought those ideological divisions into sharper focus. The former Michigan health official has not joined the Democratic Socialists of America, but he has attracted support from prominent figures associated with the movement, including Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. He has also campaigned alongside political streamer Hasan Piker.
El-Sayed has taken a number of positions that distinguish him from more moderate Democrats. He has advocated abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, previously called for defunding police in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death, and has accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza.
Rogers, meanwhile, previously represented Michigan in the U.S. House and chaired the House Intelligence Committee. His race against El-Sayed will help determine control of a Senate seat that has attracted significant national attention, making Michigan one of the states to watch as voters head toward November.
The public defections of LaRosa and Epstein are especially notable because they represent Democrats openly crossing party lines rather than simply criticizing their party’s nominee. Whether other Democratic voters follow them remains to be seen, but the controversy underscores broader questions about the ideological direction of both Michigan and national politics.
For intercessors, this race is about more than party labels. Scripture calls us to pray for those who govern and to seek leaders who exercise authority with wisdom, justice, and integrity. As Michigan voters consider competing visions for their state and the nation, let’s pray for truth to overcome political rhetoric, for voters to exercise discernment, and for God’s purposes to prevail in November.

I pray that our Nation America, we its people, government and leaders will return to God and His Christ sincerely and truthfully. We will be bold enough to declare our nation a Christian nation.

Father, thank you that some of the Democrats have seen the danger and turned away from it. I pray for the election that LaRosa would win. I pray that those who are allied with Islam would be found out and cast out. I ask that you would restore our country to you. Open our eyes to see the danger and turn our hearts to you. I pray that you would turn the hearts of our enemies to you and your salvation. May these see what are the ends of their days if they do not turn to you. Send them dreams and those who would witness to them. Give them eyes to see, ears to hear and minds that understand what Jesus did for them.
LaRosa is in support of Mike Rogers who is running against El-Sayed. We pray that Mike Rogers will win.

Father, thank you for the wisdom of the Democrats to go against the DSA . We pray that we will see more people to understand the importance to stand against communism and socialism,. We pray that Your word will go forth that is is only Your righteousness that will exalt a nation.
If we claim to be a Christian we must stand for the Godly foundation on which our nation was founded! We must not allow the ungodly, demonic left to take over our nation. We must remain one nation under God with liberty and justice for. Our own personal agenda doesn’t matter. It is only God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We MUST PRAY for a Godly solution for the problems that our nation is facing.
Father, I stand in the gap, on the wall, to see what You have to say. Lord, when the Muslims began coming to this nation years ago, we did not do our job. We were to evangelize this people group, difficult though it is. I confess this before You for all of us. I ask for Your forgiveness in this matter. Father, they now have established a “beachhead” in our country. Those who were born here years ago are rising up to attempt the government take-over. Father, You have other plans for this country. You wish for none to be lost but for all to come to a saving knowledge of You. Lord, send Your angels into their “camps.” Break stony hearts and the deception that prevails in each one. Thank You for some who have been saved and are now reaching out to their communities with the good news of the Gospel. In the meantime, Lord, alert Your people, alert the true American citizen, so that we pray and act in order to stop their attempt to change our laws and our Constitution. Keep them out of office. Expose their agendas. Bring it all to light. Show people that true Islam is a religious government, totally opposed to our Constitution. And now Lord, I proclaim that America shall be saved.
