Jesus Revolution, produced by the Erwin Brothers through Lionsgate for $14 million, will be released in theaters nationwide in February.

The film tells the story of the Jesus Movement through the eyes of Greg Laurie, as he watches Lonnie Frisbee inspire Chuck Smith (played by Kelsey Grammer, of Frasier) to bring Christian hippies into his church. Smith eventually founded Calvary Chapel, which now has 1,800 churches in America. Frisbee is played by Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus in The Chosen (which recently released its Season 3 trailer and will be released in theaters Nov. 18, prior to streaming).
Dave Almgren of The Advance Team has been screening Jesus Revolution for churches from Hawaii to Connecticut. “Many came to the Lord during the late 60s and early 70s, during the Jesus Revolution, and many of those are still serving the Lord to this day, but many have fallen away,” Almgren says. “So could this movie, Jesus Revolution, be a call to welcome them back home to their first love?”
The film is based on Laurie’s book, Jesus Revolution: How God Transformed an Unlikely Generation and How He Can Do It Again Today, of which he is co-author. Jon Erwin, the film’s director, said to Laurie: “You lived this. … Can it happen again?” To which Laurie replied, “You know, Jon, with all that’s going on in our world right now, I pray the answer is yes. Lord, send that awakening, and let it start with me.”
Almgren confirms that awakening is possible. “I screened Jesus Revolution in Honolulu, Hawaii … for a church called Inspire, with Pastor Mike Kai,” he said. “And for the last few months, they have consistently seen 15 to 100 people coming to Christ every week in their services. So they told me revival isn’t necessarily coming — it’s already here for them.”

My husband and I met in San Francisco in 1962 and plunged for 14 years into the occult/psychedelic New Age “revival” that exploded throughout the Bay Area. In the mid-80s, we returned to college in Oregon to try to make something of ourselves, but we continued to be plagued by sin, the devil, and our lostness. In 1976, not long after I graduated, I got uterine cancer & was scheduled for a hysterectomy. I hadn’t been able to have children in our 15 years of marriage, but several days before the scheduled operation, I received a little booklet about how Jesus Christ still heals today. As I read the words, “It is a simple matter for Christ to put His hand on the chaos that is cancer and bring order,” Heaven opened up, and a river of life flowed through me. I met my Savior, who told me I was going to have a baby. My doctor confirmed my healing and canceled the hysterectomy. (I later learned he was a Christian who’d prayed for me.) I was 35 years old. A few weeks later, my husband was convicted of his sin and received Christ. As God led us out of our old life, He led us into a version of the Jesus Movement that was going on in Oregon and Washington among some of the established churches where we saw and experienced many other wonderful miracles. I would LOVE to see such a revival once again, and many of us here in Washington are praying for it.

On Saturday I got to do the devotion for the cast and crew of Janet Porter’s sitcom on the 80th anniversary of my grandfather coming back from the dead. I remember the spiritual revolution of the 60’s and the change it brought to our country! Praise the Lord. He can repeat it and I pray He would.

I missed the initial surge of Calvary chapels Jesus movement.. in 1970 I was 16 years old, – and no more aware of Christianity or the Jesus movement than the Man in the Moon. However I did get saved in 1985.. originally -,and by that time.. things had settled in to where it had become an acceptable non-denominational movement. My first infilling of the Holy Spirit.. while being the usual receiving Christ and the Holy Spirit as salvation.. had the effect of seemingly causing me to float.. slightly off the ground,- for about 2 months.. I did not learn about what is being discussed here until 1995.. 4 years after my 1991 re-dedication ..the first time I actually attended a Calvary Chapel. There were very knowledgeable people there. By that time Chuck Laurie was at least almost 16 years into his career of being on his own at Harvest Ministries.. maybe it was longer.. anyways, – my whole life-,spiritual and otherwise.. it’s been about being late to the game. Of course I know the Lord is in charge of time. I would like to see this film very much. I have had to relinquish my zeal to be part of every social/ spiritual interaction and movement that comes along, – all quite simultaneously.. which is of course impossible.. and allow myself to be relegated to being the lone ant.. as the character in ” an insect’s life “was presented. My only regret is that my obvious need to be walking the path with Jesus was not started much sooner in life.. but of course again,’ the Lord is in charge of time. I know it would have saved me from so much heartache and damage, – both to myself and to other people.
Lord I pray that this film will be used by You- to light the fire of resurgence.. even as subsequent Generations who have not heard of that movement.. and those younger people- who are unfamiliar with our history.. and even people our age who are just getting saved.. find something to relate to and to hang on to-, that will Inspire them- in this movie.

I was living halfway across the world at the time of the Jesus Movement, which I didn’t even know was happening. But a young man who got saved during the Jesus Movement started to work at the same international company as I. He shared via a book that he gave to someone, who threw it in the wastepaper basket. I saw and took the book out and read it. Heaven opened and the Lord dramatically saved me. That was 47 years ago and I have been fired up for Jesus ever since. That never diminished one whit; in fact, that zeal has only grown! There was a desperation about those times and in my life specifically that caused hearts to be open. A great harvest resulted. I am eternally grateful that, even half a world away, God’s marvelous outpouring of His Spirit extended even to me! May the Lord bless again with a sweeping revival as He did then. And more! We welcome You into our hearts and our land. Come, Lord!

Lord, let this film’s message be viewed as the Bereans took Paul’s message, comparing it diligently with Your eternal Word, to see what things the “Jesus Revolution” introduced that we should keep, and which we should correct, trusting in You with all our heart and looking not to our own understanding, (Proverbs 3:5).
The Lord searched and He found me, during the Jesus Revolution, around fifty years ago. I gave it all to Him and have yet to regret that choice.
I remember being barred from churches as our worship style just wasn’t the norm; disposing of books, records, and worldly friends that would compromise my new life. I needed to remove bridges to my past so there was no option to return. I was done with the world’s junk.
Father, I pray for those who want to have Jesus but still want to hold on to the world. Father, You know it doesn’t work that way, help them to let go of the temporary and cling to the eternal. Redirect the hearts of pastors and leaders who steer their congregations down compromise lane. May they heed the Holy Scriptures and the Holy Spirit. In Jesus name, amen

Can’t wait!!!! Memories memories memories! I got saved in 1971. Planning my suicide in a lonely apartment in Mississippi. God use the Jesus Movement to turn my life around. Jesus is m everything still today 51 years later!
