Trump Suggests Cuba Operation Could Mirror Maduro Raid
President Donald Trump is keeping pressure on Cuba’s communist regime while leaving open the possibility of future U.S. action as conditions on the island continue to deteriorate. In a recent interview, the president suggested that any potential operation involving Cuba could resemble the swift mission that removed Venezuelan leader NicolĆ”s Maduro from power earlier this year.
Join others crying out to the Lord day and night.
The comments come amid growing economic turmoil in Cuba, increased U.S. sanctions, and speculation about the future stability of the island’s government.
From The Epoch Times:
When asked if such an operation could resemble the Jan. 3 helicopter-borne raid in Venezuela, Trump said, āPossibly. Itās possible.ā
…
The president said Secretary of State Marco Rubio is involved in the Cuba policy.
āMarcoās doing a great job,ā Trump said. āMarcoās parentsāitās such a great storyāhis parents were from Cuba.ā
Trumpās remarks follow months of escalating pressure on Havana. Since returning to office, his administration has reinstated a maximum-pressure strategy against the Cuban government, imposing additional sanctions and targeting state-controlled entities. Administration officials have also warned that Cuba’s economic and political system appears increasingly fragile as shortages of food, medicine, fuel, and electricity continue to affect daily life across the island.
One major factor behind Cuba’s worsening crisis has been the loss of support from Venezuela. After the U.S. operation that removed NicolĆ”s Maduro from power, the flow of subsidized Venezuelan oil to Cuba was disrupted, depriving Havana of a critical economic lifeline. The resulting energy shortages have contributed to frequent blackouts and growing public frustration.
The administration has also highlighted national security concerns involving Cuba. Recent reports have cited intelligence suggesting the island has acquired hundreds of military drones and maintained relationships with adversarial governments, including Iran and Russia. While U.S. officials have stressed that Cuba does not pose an immediate military threat, they have argued that developments on the island warrant close attention.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has become one of the administration’s leading voices on Cuba policy. As the son of Cuban immigrants, Rubio has repeatedly argued that the communist system has failed the Cuban people and that meaningful reforms are necessary for the country’s future. The administration continues to express a preference for a peaceful transition but has also made clear that it is preparing for a variety of possible scenarios.
For many Americans, especially those with family ties to Cuba, the island’s future remains a matter of great concern. As tensions continue and the humanitarian situation worsens, the coming months may prove pivotal for both the Cuban people and U.S.-Cuba relations.
