I Prayed have prayed
Lord, give us divine strategies, strength, and endurance. Help us wage war successfully against Your enemies.
Reading Time: 4 minutes

In April of 1975, Col. Harry G. Summers was the head of the U.S. delegation’s negotiating team that ended the Vietnam War. Summers met his North Vietnamese counterpart, Col. Tu. The American stated: “You know, you never defeated us on the battlefield.” Tu smiled and replied: “That may be so, but it is also irrelevant.”

Who is praying on the wall?

To win a majority of battles and not win a war is not only frustrating and demoralizing, it calls into question strategies employed, tactical planning and degrees of engagement. The great generals of history were masters of organizational skill and strategic brilliance. Julius Caesar, Napoleon, Washington, and Eisenhower, to name a few, did much more than yell “charge”; they knew how and when to maximize their strengths and exploit their enemy’s weaknesses.

Is spiritual warfare any different? In the great war between good and evil, the forces of light and darkness both utilize strategies to gain ground. Satan and his dark lords operate on deception, confusion, and disorder. His tactics should not be underestimated, they are effective — just look at our country today. The Bible refers to Satan as the Father of Lies (John 8:44), the Great Deceiver (Revelation 12:9), the Accuser of the Brethren (Revelation 12:10), and an Angel of Light (1 Corinthians 11:14). He is a master of disguise, a wolf in sheep’s clothing; even the elect may be deceived. His power is limited, but his camouflage is good. He intimidates through fear, anxiety, and despair, getting the Church off-mission and weakening our resistance. Who needs a direct fight when you can keep your opposition off the battlefield? His legions are advancing with little resistance into the major mountains of influence and power in America: the family, education, government, medicine, media, religion, and business.

What about the good guys? Are today’s Christians wise to the spiritual fight that rages in our land? Have we developed strategies to combat this dark invasion, or are we resigned to laying low and hoping to win the war through cultural relevance? Raising the white flag is a surrender that men of God must not be willing to make.

When it comes to spiritual warfare, what exactly are the rules of engagement? The Bible states: Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12). Powers, world forces of darkness, spiritual forces of wickedness. This is a war won not with rockets and drones. Spiritual warfare requires spiritual weapons. We’ve got them.

Authority: The spirit world understands the concept of authority and is bound to submission to higher powers. Evil spirits must obey a higher authority, and when Jesus (or His disciples) would cast out demons, those would flee. Jesus was given authority by His Father, and He delegated this authority to His disciples, a fact that evil spirits recognize. “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you” (Luke 10:19). However, power and authority not utilized is no power at all.

Prayer: Prayer is an offensive weapon, it tears down strongholds. The prayers of the saints move the hand of God; they are a powerful force against the advancement of evil.

Weaponry: We have better weapons than our Enemy. The weapons that we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds …  (2 Corinthians 10:4). Joshua won with spears and swords. Patton won with heavy artillery. Our arsenal includes the Word of God, the blood of the Lamb, and the power of our testimony. When Satan approached Jesus with temptations, he was rebuked by the Word of God (see Luke 4:3–12). We must do the same. Our Enemy has no such weapon.

Delegated authority, effective prayer, the Word of God. There exists no force on earth that can stand against these superior weapons. But an army fully equipped has no guarantee of success. There is no demilitarized zone in spiritual warfare, we must still take the fight to the enemy. Inaction only gives our foe time to regroup and apply new tactics.

Men of God, we are called to stand firm against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:1).
We are called to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one (Ephesians 6:16).
We are called to destroy speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:5).
We are called to be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might! (Ephesians 6:10).

Let it never be said that when our King and country needed us most, we flagged in strength and opted for tranquility. The fight is upon us — how will we respond?

Lord Jesus Christ, we know that Satan wouldn’t be fighting so hard against us if we weren’t making a difference for Your Kingdom. He wouldn’t be trying so hard to stop us, if he didn’t think You had so much good still in store. Remind us today, Lord Jesus, that the battle belongs to You, and whatever we are up against can be taken down in one fell swoop by Your mighty hand. Please help us to trust You more, to stop wasting time just spinning our wheels or fighting in our own strength. Forgive us for the times we have neglected to set our eyes and hearts on You, for the days we have forgotten to come to You first. Fill us with the power of Your Holy Spirit. Fill us with Your wisdom and discernment to make us aware of Satan’s traps, so we can stand strong against his schemes. Thank You for Your constant reminders that Your presence will go with us, in whatever we face, and You will give us rest. In Your mighty and holy Name, and by Your authority, I pray. Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, I now come boldly and humbly before Your Throne of Grace declaring the devil and his demons liars today! Through the power of Your precious Name and Blood, I agree with Your Word and the truth that You are in us and that You are greater than Satan who wants to rule the world. You, Your Word, and Prayer, Lord Jesus, are our secret weapons! We belong to You, and that fills us with a powerful God-confidence. We want to constantly wear the spiritual armor You give us. Help us use it to defend others from Satan’s fiery darts as well. No one and nothing can snatch us away from Your hand. Strengthen our faith, Lord Jesus. Forgive our sins, so that we may be clean in Your righteousness. Make us brave, so we can stand and fight the spiritual battles in our lives and in our nation, the United States of America, and the world. Give us Your wisdom and discernment so we won’t be caught off guard. Together, Lord Jesus, we will win, because in truth, You already have! In Your powerful and merciful Name before which every knee shall bow! In Christ Jesus, and by His authority, I pray. Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, evil is such a harsh word, and yet Your Word uses it frequently to describe the opposite of good. While we are all capable of sin, I now ask for Your protection against those who call good evil, and evil good. Guard us from those who scheme against righteousness and from those who twist the truth into lies to accomplish their evil intents. May Your holy angels hover even near to eradicate fear and fight against dark, spiritual forces we cannot see. Help us cast down every imagination and thought that our enemy tries to use to exalt itself against You. You dealt our spiritual enemy a fateful blow on Calvary when You died on the Cross for us and was resurrected on the third day. While evil still roams, the power of Your Name and Your Blood rises up to defeat and bring us victory against every evil planned against us. While malicious actions may disturb us, we use the Armor of God You have given us to stand firm. You will bring justice in due time for all the harm and needless violence aimed at Your children. Until then, we remain in Your presence, aligned with Your purposes, and we look to You as our Supreme Commander and Protector. Lord Jesus, help us to avoid temptation, and deliver us from evil. You are the Mighty One, the One who will ultimately bring all evil to light. With You, Lord Jesus, we are safe and will be victorious! In Your mighty and holy Name, and by Your authority, I pray. Amen.

When people Pray,
God makes a Way.
When folks Believe,
God parts the Sea.
On our knees, we
are getting stronger every day.
When people Pray,
God makes a Way.

“When Satan approached Jesus with temptations, he was rebuked by the Word of God ”

“There exists no force on earth that can stand against (God)…. ”

After reading Mr. Willis’ article, I was reminded of the Centurion who asked Jesus to heal a valued servant. On the way there, Jesus received the message to stop and not come but if He would just say a word, the Centurion believed his servant would be healed. Jesus said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.” The author of Hebrews says, “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” On the island of Patmos, John “saw heaven standing open and there before him was a white horse whose rider is called Faithful and True. With righteousness He judges and wages war… His Name is The Word of God….and He has a name written on His robe and on His thigh: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”

Dear Heavenly Father, You are Adonai Tzva’ot, the Lord of Armies. You have been and will forever be, the ultimate power and authority in Heaven, on earth and throughout the endless galaxies…nothing is outside Your command…even the adversary. Only You have strategies to stand against the present chaos. We have Your Word as our Authority. We have Your Word as we pray. You are our superior weapon. You are our victory. I pray in this day and each day to come, more and more soldiers will join Your army and as they do, I believe that “every atom, every molecule, moves in accordance with Your purposes and at Your command. You sustain everything by Your Powerful Word. Thank You Father. Thank You Jesus. Thank You Holy Spirit. Amen
