Mastercard to Investigate Allegations Against PornHub

Mastercard Inc said on Sunday it was investigating allegations against Pornhub.com following a newspaper column which said many videos posted on the adult website depicted child abuse.

The New York Times column, written by Nicholas Kristof, described videos on Pornhub that the author said were recordings of assaults on unconscious women and girls.

“The issue is not pornography but rape. Let’s agree that promoting assaults on children or on anyone without consent is unconscionable,” Kristof wrote in the column published on Friday. . . .

Pornhub denied the allegations.

“Any assertion that we allow CSAM (child sexual abuse material) is irresponsible and flagrantly untrue,” it said in a statement emailed to Reuters.

Mastercard told Reuters in a statement that it was investigating the allegations with Pornhub’s parent MindGeek’s bank. “If the claims are substantiated, we will take immediate action,” Mastercard said.

Billionaire investor Bill Ackman called on Mastercard and Visa Inc to temporarily withhold payments to Pornhub following the newspaper column. . . .

Visa said it is aware of the allegations and is “actively engaging with the relevant financial institutions to investigate,” while also engaging directly with MindGeek.

“If the site is identified as not complying with applicable laws or the financial institutions’ acceptable use policies and underwriting standards they will no longer be able to accept Visa payments,” the company said in a statement.

American Express said it has a longstanding global policy that prohibits acceptance of its cards on digital adult content websites.

Ackman suggested it should be made illegal for porn sites to post videos before they are reviewed by a monitor, and until the ages and consent of participants have been validated. . . .

Kristof’s column also drew reactions from politicians including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who said his government was working with police and security officials to address the issues it raised.

In the United States, Senator Josh Hawley said he will introduce legislation to create a federal right to sue for every person “coerced or trafficked or exploited by sites like Pornhub.”

Children of PornHub

Pornhub prides itself on being the cheery, winking face of naughty, the website that buys a billboard in Times Square and provides snow plows to clear Boston streets. It donates to organizations fighting for racial equality and offers steamy content free to get people through Covid-19 shutdowns.

That supposedly “wholesome Pornhub” attracts 3.5 billion visits a month, more than Netflix, Yahoo or Amazon.  . . .

Yet there’s another side of the company: It’s site is infested with rape videos. It monetizes child rapes, revenge pornography, spy cam videos of women showering, racist and misogynist content, and footage of women being asphyxiated in plastic bags. A search for “girls under18” (no space) or “14yo” leads in each case to more than 100,000 videos. Most aren’t of children being assaulted, but too many are.

After a 15-year-old girl went missing in Florida, her mother found her on Pornhub — in 58 sex videos. Sexual assaults on a 14-year-old California girl were posted on Pornhub and were reported to the authorities not by the company but by a classmate who saw the videos. In each case, offenders were arrested for the assaults, but Pornhub escaped responsibility for sharing the videos and profiting from them.

Pornhub is like YouTube in that it allows members of the public to post their own videos. A great majority of the 6.8 million new videos posted on the site each year probably involve consenting adults, but many depict child abuse and nonconsensual violence. . . .

“Pornhub became my trafficker,” a woman named Cali told me. She says she was adopted in the United States from China and then trafficked by her adoptive family and forced to appear in pornographic videos beginning when she was 9. Some videos of her being abused ended up on Pornhub and regularly reappear there, she said.

“I’m still getting sold, even though I’m five years out of that life,” Cali said. Now 23, she is studying in a university and hoping to become a lawyer — but those old videos hang over her.

“I may never be able to get away from this,” she said. “I may be 40 with eight kids, and people are still masturbating to my photos.”

“You type ‘Young Asian’ and you can probably find me,” she added.

Actually, maybe not. Pornhub recently was offering 26,000 videos in response to that search. That doesn’t count videos that show up under “related searches” that Pornhub suggests, including “young tiny teen,” “extra small petite teen,” “tiny Asian teen” or just “young girl.” Nor does it necessarily count videos on a Pornhub channel called “exploited teen Asia.”

The issue is not pornography but rape. . . .

I came across many videos on Pornhub that were recordings of assaults on unconscious women and girls. The rapists would open the eyelids of the victims and touch their eyeballs to show that they were nonresponsive.

Pornhub profited this fall from a video of a naked woman being tortured by a gang of men in China. It is monetizing video compilations with titles like “Screaming Teen,” “Degraded Teen” and “Extreme Choking.”  . . .

Pornhub declined to make executives available on the record, but it provided a statement. “Pornhub is unequivocally committed to combating child sexual abuse material, and has instituted a comprehensive, industry-leading trust and safety policy to identify and eradicate illegal material from our community,” it said. Pornhub added that any assertion that the company allows child videos on the site “is irresponsible and flagrantly untrue.” . . .

Editor’s Note: Below is a story from a young women who was trafficked by PornHub. . .

At 14, Serena K. Fleites was an A student in Bakersfield, Calif., who had never made out with a boy. But in the eighth grade she developed a crush on a boy a year older, and he asked her to take a naked video of herself. She sent it to him, and this changed her life.

He asked for another, then another; she was nervous but flattered. “That’s when I started getting strange looks in school,” she remembered. He had shared the videos with other boys, and someone posted them on Pornhub.

Fleites’s world imploded.  . . .

The boy was suspended, but Fleites began skipping class because she couldn’t bear the shame. Her mother persuaded Pornhub to remove the videos, and Fleites switched schools. But rumors reached the new school, and soon the videos were uploaded again to Pornhub and other websites.

Fleites quarreled with her mother and began cutting herself. Then one day she went to the medicine cabinet and took every antidepressant pill she could find.

Three days later, she woke up in the hospital, frustrated to be still alive. Next she hanged herself in the bathroom; her little sister found her, and medics revived her.

As Fleites spiraled downward, a friend introduced her to meth and opioids, and she became addicted to both. She dropped out of school and became homeless.

At 16, she advertised on Craigslist and began selling naked photos and videos of herself. It was a way to make a bit of money, and maybe also a way to punish herself. She thought, “I’m not worth anything any more because everybody has already seen my body,” she told me.

Those videos also ended up on Pornhub. Fleites would ask that they be removed. They usually would be, she says — but then would be uploaded again. One naked video of her at 14 had 400,000 views, she says, leaving her afraid to apply for fast-food jobs for fear that someone would recognize her.

So today Fleites, 19, off drugs for a year but unemployed and traumatized, is living in her car in Bakersfield, along with three dogs that have proved more loyal and loving than the human species. She dreams of becoming a vet technician but isn’t sure how to get there. “It’s kind of hard to go to school when you’re living in a car with dogs,” she said. . . .

“A whole life can be changed because of one little mistake.”

Pornhub is owned by Mindgeek, a private pornography conglomerate with more than 100 websites, production companies and brands. Its sites include Redtube, Youporn, XTube, SpankWire, ExtremeTube, Men.com, My Dirty Hobby, Thumbzilla, PornMD, Brazzers and GayTube. There are other major players in porn outside the Mindgeek umbrella, most notably XHamster and XVideos, but Mindgeek is a porn titan. If it operated in another industry, the Justice Department could be discussing an antitrust case against it.

Pornhub and Mindgeek also stand out because of their influence. One study this year by a digital marketing company concluded that Pornhub was the technology company with the third greatest-impact on society in the 21st century, after Facebook and Google but ahead of Microsoft, Apple and Amazon.

Nominally based in Luxembourg for tax reasons, Mindgeek is a private company run from Montreal. It does not disclose who owns it, but it is led by Feras Antoon and David Tassillo, both Canadians, who declined to be interviewed.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada calls himself a feminist and has been proud of his government’s efforts to empower women worldwide. . . .

Mindgeek’s moderators are charged with filtering out videos of children, but its business model profits from sex videos starring young people. . . .

Pornhub appears to be increasingly alarmed about civil or criminal liability. Lawyers are circling, and nine women sued the company in federal court after spy cam videos surfaced on Pornhub. The videos were shot in a locker room at Limestone College in South Carolina and showed women showering and changing clothes. . . .

Executives of Pornhub appear in the past to have assumed that they enjoyed immunity under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which protects internet platforms on which members of the public post content. But in 2018 Congress limited Section 230 so that it may not be enough to shield the company, leading Mindgeek to behave better.

It has doubled the number of moderators in the last couple of years, the moderator told me, and this year Pornhub began voluntarily reporting illegal material to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. After previously dragging its feet in removing videos of children and nonconsensual content, Pornhub now is responding more rapidly. . . .

I obtained a copy of this list, and it purports to bar videos with terms or themes like “rape,” “preteen,” “pedophilia” and “bestiality” (it helpfully clarifies that this “includes eels, fish, octopus, insects”). Diapers are OK “if no scatophilia.” Mutilation depends on context but “cannot depict severing parts of the body.”

So while it is now no longer possible to search on Pornhub in English using terms like “underage” or “rape,” the company hasn’t tried hard to eliminate such videos. A member called “13yoboyteen” is allowed to post videos. A search for “r*pe,” turns up 1,901 videos. “Girl with braces” turns up 1,913 videos and suggests also trying “exxxtra small teens.” A search for “13yo” generates 155,000 videos. . . .

While Pornhub is becoming more careful about videos of potentially litigious Americans, it remains cavalier about overseas victims. One Indonesian video is titled “Junior High School Girl After Class” and shows what appears to be a young teenager having sex. A Chinese sex video, just taken down, was labeled: “Beautiful High School Girl Is Tricked by Classmates and Taken to the Top of a Building Where She Is Insulted and Raped.” . . .

In the last few days as I was completing this article, two new videos of prepubescent girls being assaulted were posted, along with a sex video of a 15-year-old girl who was suicidal after it went online.  . . .

“It’s always going to be online,” Nicole, a British woman who has had naked videos of herself posted and reposted on Pornhub, told me. “That’s my big fear of having kids, them seeing this.”

That’s a recurring theme among survivors: An assault eventually ends, but Pornhub renders the suffering interminable. . . .

Pornhub has introduced software that supposedly can “fingerprint” rape videos and prevent them from being uploaded again. But Vice showed how this technology is easily circumvented on Pornhub. . . .

So what’s the solution?

I had expected the survivors to want to shut down Pornhub and send its executives to prison. Some did, but others were more nuanced. Lydia, now 20, was trafficked as a child and had many rape videos posted on the site. “My stomach hurts all the time” from the tension, she told me, but she doesn’t want to come across as hostile to porn itself.

“I don’t want people to hear ‘No porn!’” Lydia told me. “It’s more like, ‘Stop hurting kids.’” . . .

Columnists are supposed to offer answers, but I struggle with solutions. If Pornhub curated videos more rigorously, the most offensive material might just move to the dark web or to websites in less regulated countries. Yet at least they would then not be normalized on a mainstream site.

More pressure and less impunity would help. We’re already seeing that limiting Section 230 immunity leads to better self-policing. . . .

I don’t see any neat solution. But aside from limiting immunity so that companies are incentivized to behave better, here are three steps that would help: 1.) Allow only verified users to post videos. 2.) Prohibit downloads. 3.) Increase moderation.

These measures wouldn’t kill porn or much bother consumers of it; YouTube thrives without downloads. Siri Dahl, a prominent porn star who does business with Pornhub, told me that my three proposals are “insanely reasonable.”

I cannot read this (the content kills me) but pray daily for those in bondage. What I did read is a report about Republican Sens. Josh Hawley and Ben Sasse leading the charge against Pornhub and human trafficking; Sens. Maggie Hassan and Thom Tillis have joined them. Additionally, Laila Mickelwait, founder and director the anti-trafficking organization Exodus Cry, has met with Hawley and been in contact with Sasse’s office to discuss the alleged abuse and exploitation happening through Pornhub. She said, “”They have called me a liar over and over to the world through hundreds of media articles trying to silence me, and lawyers and investigators even believe they have maliciously deployed agents to attack and harass me for raising my voice about their crimes since the Traffickinghub campaign began.”

I am writing to each of these individuals to tell them how committed I am to pray for them and those they want to free. As well, how committed I am to pray God’s swift and decisive judgement of Pornhub and all those associated with them. Let them know, ever so personally, “it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Hebrews 10:31

Amen! Amen! Amen! I am so thankful that this truth is being proclaimed for such a time as this. I wonder how many times the Father has been waiting for us to bring our evidence and petitions to the courts of Heaven to render judgment yet we have been distracted by the cares of this world?

A great sermon series on how God’s judgment always brings good fruit is Pastor John Weaver’s “A Door of Hope” on Sermon Audio.com.

Father, in the name Jesus, destroy this deceit of the enemy. We curse it at the root. We claim salvation for ever life that has produced and perpetuates any and all porn and its sites (soft porn as well). We claim salvation for all those who have been participants in it, seekers of it and those victimized by it. We pray the awestriking conviction of the Holy Ghost set them on fire and burn up everything that is not like you Lord, burn up every memory of it, every drive and demonic seed from them. Father, set them free by the power of the Holy Ghost and not let be entangled again. Create in them a disdain and distaste for all uncleaness in Jesus’ Name. Cause them to seek your face and voice in place of the hunger. Fill them Father in those places with a love that surpasses all understanding. Reveal unto them the true assignment for lives and let never turn back, in Jesus’ Name, amen.

Pornhub (and all the others) knows full well that it has these types of videos on its site. They don’t care – its about money to them. They want viewers because the more viewers they have, the more money they get. The reason the operators or owners of these site won’t talk is they don’t want to (1) expose their faces to the public because once that happens frequently, the fallout and pressure will intensify (2) they don’t wan to incriminate themselves (3) those who love the darkness want to stay hidden
Government laws at all levels can help us but the lost and depraved scum that own these sites also have attorneys who stay up nights trying to figure their way around those laws. Also a huge problem are officials (politicians, government reps, law enforcement, etc.) who look the other way because of the hand outs they receive.
Take the state of CA – where the adult industry is legal on almost every conceivable level because the government of CA receives tax revenue from it….so they don’t want to touch it. As just one example, in the L.A. area, some big name politicians take their election $$ from laundered donations from the “industry” to fill their reelection bank account – then return the favor with a hands off approach toward the industry. Those same politicians are sometimes involved first hand with members of these companies at parties, etc. – its a ugly and vicious cycle. Many of these politicians or other members of government know full well that they are underage children that are being used and trafficked in all areas of the industry and they do NOTHING about it because they are part of the schemes. These children and adults need our prayers and physical activity / involvement in freeing them from the clutches of Satan and the depraved, demonically driven people who prey and destroy other humans.
If we think of where this industry started (Playboy) and where it is today, we see how quickly decadence takes over a society. Parading itself as “freedom or rights”, it has produced the opposite. The effect of pornography has basically changed the regular film industry to the hollow shell we see today in Hollywood or other places (its not limited to Hollywood). The raping of America’s conscience has been a going on for decades and something has to change. It’s hard to find a movie that a whole family can enjoy (there are still some) unless you go back in time to the older ones. The newer entertainment has been grossly affected by the hideous “pornographic spirit” that hangs over most of Hollywood or CA & some other entertainment mega centers.
What can the church do? We start with prayer. We dedicate a portion of prayer time to warring with this spirit hanging over our nation and the industry. We petition our local governments with signatures from concerned citizens to do something about getting rid of adult industries or restricting their development severely. We petition our officials for severe punishment for those involved in this type of activity. We make sure we let cable or dish providers know full well we don’t want to see that type of advertising on our TV’s or radio or internet. And we get involved with good organizations (preferable Christian because they know what the war is about & hopefully are battling in the correct way). There are non-Christian organizations who also battle against this and they are not to be discounted because many of them do a very good job and have tools to help set people free. We can offer our homes to victims who are trying to get free from the industry – even if its just a temporary place to stay. And ask the members of your church to get involved. Help people understand that this is not an area where we can say “its someone else’s problem, not mine”. There are men and women within the body of Christ who have been or are being affected by the slavery of pornography viewing. We don’t want to condemn them – we must help them. And for any officials at any level of government who is involved or is taking money from this industry directly or indirectly — we boldly ask you Lord to expose that completely. Let your holy justice prevail.
LORD – we ask for you to guide each and everyone of us in what you would have us do. We know we must pray but how else can we help Lord bring your freedom to people caught in this world? Show us – we may think its so little but in your kingdom, a little help can change the world we live in. We ask that you would bring more of the truth of what is happening to your light Lord. Bring forth those who have been a part of that world and give them the courage to tell their stories so that more light is shone on what is really happening. Provide windows and avenues of freedom to those looking to escape the clutches in which they are now caught.
We ask as intercessors Lord God that our government officials would unite and band together in fighting this industry. We ask that heavy fines would be levied on these depraved individuals and their companies so that it would literally bankrupt them. For those who hide the truth, we declare they will not be able to hide anymore.
Most of all Lord, bring revival to our land and to the people. We must have revival Lord – we long for it. We know that when that starts, the hearts of men and women and children across our nation will start to change. In your name we pray Lord – amen.

An article like this is needed for exposure of the decadence of the adult porn industry and mindset. And more are needed.
This is an area that, for the most part, the body of Christ and church have ignored and not been involved in. It IS a major stronghold for hell over America and the world. It preys on the normal desires built into our bodies and then perverts them through it’s various forms of deception. It is wrecking families, marriages, children’s innocence, potential relationships, etc. The biggest lie that is being accepted is that “porn can be controlled” so that certain freedoms will still be protected. Mankind cannot control perversion and depravity because when it runs unchecked, it’s thirst cannot be quenched. In it’s search for greater “freedom”in the world of pornography, the end result is and will always be greater bondage. The innocent people who DO NOT want to be part of the world of porn know full well what that feels like to be at the demands of someone trying to fulfill their list of unquenchable desires.
As Christians, we must get serious about praying for this industry to collapse from both the inside and outside. We must get intense about taking the war to those endorsing a hands off approach or a soft touch viewpoint of the porn industry being allowed to operate. Those types of approaches “don’t work”.
As long as mankind is allowed freedom in debauchery, he will continue to abuse that freedom because restraint in “allowed sin” (porn or so-called laws protecting porn) is contrary to what and how God tells us to live.
Lord God – rescue those in the world of pornography. Those that are slaves to using it, those that are willing or unwilling participants and those who run these companies. Bring your justice to those who are owners or employed by these companies and know exactly what they are allowing. We ask this in Jesus name amen.

Lord, my heart goes out to the many victims of human trafficking. I pray for an awakening of the conscience of christians and moral individuals to go out and bring the victims out of bondage. Father, open up ways for real help and healing both spiritual and physical. This is a worldwide problem and it is connected to a lot of other evils. I pray for the truth to open our eyes and uncover these awful injustices. And that evil will be forced out of hiding. Make for new laws in the area of porn and sex industry and shut the traffick down. We need a moral awakening in our societies. I pray for restoration and salvation, new life and Your love to enter every victim’s life. Bless them, Lord and give them hope and a future. Amen

Dear Heavenly Father, our world has sunk into a level of depravity that would have been unimaginable just a couple of decades ago. Despite its benefits, the Internet has also increased the evil in world, making it far too easy for the dissemination of materials that corrupt the soul. Lord, please help the people involved in the production of this material to escape that world and come to know you. Help also the people who have been affected by this material. For many it is a seductive and addictive influence that leads to a form of spiritual slavery. Lord, please help all of those who have become the victims of this material, and set them free. In Jesus precious name I pray, Amen.

Father, show me what to do.
I’m both sick and infuriated.
Bring Your Kingdom to bear on Pornhub. Protect Mt. Kristof’s heart and mind and draw him to Jesus as Lord and Savior if he doesn’t know You. Show us how to dismantle this pit of hell in Your power. I know You are groaning for me Holy Spirit as I don’t know what to say. Come Lord Jesus
Deliver the victims—all the victims.
