Right-wing Rep. Matt Gaetz and left-wing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez agree on this important bill addressing an issue that has eroded public trust. Find out why Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick said: “This is basic common sense and basic integrity 101.”

From Fox Business. In a rare show of solidarity, an eclectic group of lawmakers including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., announced a bipartisan bill restricting members of Congress from trading individual stocks.

Sponsored by GOP Reps. Gaetz and Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., and Democratic Reps. Ocasio-Cortez and Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., the Bipartisan Restoring Faith in Government Act aims to block members of Congress, as well as their spouses and dependents, from trading individual stocks.

“The ability to individually trade stock erodes the public’s trust in government,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a statement. “When Members have access to classified information, we should not be trading in the stock market on it. It’s really that simple.” …

“Members of Congress are spending their time trading futures instead of securing the future of our fellow Americans,” Gaetz said in a statement. “Congress will never regain the trust of the American people. Our responsibility in Congress is to serve the people, not hedge bets on the stock market.”

Fitzpatrick noted the rarity of common ground from often-opposing caucuses in the House of Representatives.

“The fact that Members of the Progressive Caucus, the Freedom Caucus, and the Bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, reflecting the entirety of the political spectrum, can find common ground on key issues like this should send a powerful message to America,” Fitzpatrick said. …

The bill would give members 90 days to divest their stock holdings, adding that House ethics officials must give prior approval to any blind trust. Similar legislation has previously failed to pass. …

Totally agree that restriction is necessary to restore trust. Declaring that God is healing our land as we turn our faces to Him and Worship Him alone.

This only makes sense. Concerning people of power the appearance of honesty is as important as honesty itself

Of course, AOC supports this kind of bill because she hates “fat cat” capitalism anyway. But regardless, it’s a GREAT bill. If “we the people” can’t engage in insider trading without going to jail, then neither should the servants of the people. Pretty straightforward. Perhaps this bill and others like it will rid Washington of grifters and restore government integrity.

Yes, our “Government Servants” are paid by the people to take care of said business, not for their own
interests. Hopefully, we will see more bipartisan work and get things done and to save our American
Traditions., such as what is written in our Constitution.
Nancy and Paul Pelosi were two of the biggest abuservers .

I think this is incredible! Im in agreement. This trading of stocks by members with inside knowledge has been a conflict of interest for these lifer “servants “of the people for years. Term limits next.

The idea of prohibiting elected representatives from trading on inside information is good. Considering that their positions are temporary, it is too much to ask that they must sell all of their securities, which would result in the abandonment of their investment planning and exposure to capital gains tax. Morality can’t be cured by new laws.

Members of congress have a right to invest there money and prosper just like you and me. However insider trading should be stopped. The US Congress should concentrate on not spending our money foolishly

Insider Trading is illegal and should be investigated and prosecuted if appropriate. However, members of Congress are citizens and enjoy the same rights as everyone else, including the right to financial independence. In light of this, transferring stocks to a blind trust or converting them to Mutual Funds seems to be the fairer option for our legislators.

I still don’t trust them to be honest. Especially democrats. But enough republicans to say I will never trust Congress to do what they were elected to do, take action for We The People.

This bill may be good, but it’s too little too late. The politicians have already become so wealthy it no longer matters. If they vote for it, it only means they’ve found bigger and more evil ways to line their own pockets. We must love our brothers and sisters, and our enemies. I do. I’m saddened by their acts and their blindness to truth. But it’s exhausting watching evil crushing good all around. Now they’re getting to the children in our schools, poisoning their unformed minds. I am praying for God’s Justice now.

This is awesome. Many financial and consulting firms have strict policies regarding trading individual stocks. I am not why members of congress are treated to a different standards especially considering the fact that they are privy to lot of insider information regarding policies which might impact organizations.
The very fact that several members of congress resist this bill shows the deep rooted corruption in our government. Time to boot all these corrupt members out. It is an open secret that Paul Pelosi benefited a lot from trading stocks during covid,
