These thoughts were racing through my mind as we prepared to celebrate our freedom this month.

July fourth has become one of my favorite holidays.  It’s a family affair.  My daughter, her husband, myself and my two grandchildren piled in the vehicle the day before in search of fireworks.

The kids chattered nonstop.   Their excitement was contagious. Bryson loves smoke bombs and loud booms, while Brailee’s prefers any kind of sparkler.  It all brought a welcomed smile to my face.

Yet my heart ached as I thought about the last few months.  This year’s freedom celebration was bittersweet as we watch our rights trampled on by elected officials and their abuse of power.

My thoughts drifted to two things; the men and women who gave their very lives for our freedom, and the Declaration of Independence.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.—That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

Are we safe and happy?  I don’t think so.  Yet, we the people have watched in dismay while our nation is violated and destroyed by sheer hate.  With trembling hearts and deep disappointment, we do not know what to do or how to stop this downhill spiral.

Thankfully, many are doing something!  Some days, it feels like we are the minority, but I am encouraged of the Lord as He often reminds me that there is more with us than with them.

Still, what we face daily can be discouraging.

We walk into our favorite stores and it looks like the scene from a bad movie.  No one is stopping to chit-chat.  People avoid other people – this is not the world we once knew.  We don’t see friendly faces these days.  If they are not covered by masks, they are shrouded in fear.

In my humble opinion, our rights and freedoms are being trampled upon.  Do I think someone needs to stand up and do something?  No!  I do not.

I believe everyone needs to stand up and do something.  We cannot leave it for others to do.  We can’t silently agree, we must all speak up and take action.

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. (Eccl. 4:9-10)

We are stronger together.  As the Body of Christ, we can overcome every giant in our land.  And we must.  It’s time for us to arise as one powerful voice.

Take a moment and think about how many of our rights have been removed in six short months.

• We are being told where we can and cannot go
• Churches closed, Walmart and liquor stores remained open
• A growing number of states are mandating masks
• Weeks of rioting and destruction continues
• Mandated vaccines begin in Tennessee
• Worship and singing banned in California
• Establishments forcing cashless purchases

Each person reading this article can make a difference.  It only takes a few moments to call the leaders of your city and state.  You may think it will not make a difference, and perhaps one call will not.  However, we are an indomitable force when we stand together in truth.

“The gates of hell shall not prevail against the church!”  Jesus proclaimed.

The church.  That is us.  We can make a difference and if we stand up and do what we can do, the gates of hell will not prevail.  It is a blood bought promise from God.

As the fireworks lit up the sky, my daughter played the same music she plays every July 4^th.  The all too familiar words brought tears to our eyes this year as we sang about this country that we love.

“I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free and I won’t forget the men who died and gave their life for me, and I’ll gladly stand up, next to you and defend her still today, cause there ain’t no doubt, I love this land, God bless the USA.” (Greenwood, Lee, God Bless the USA, 1984)

Will you stand up and defend this great nation with us today? 

For those of you who are, may the Lord strengthen you and empower you to continue to stand, speak up and intercede.  May you begin to see the fruit of your labor throughout our land.

May the ‘silent majority’ be silent no more – may we all join together, creating a powerful voice of unity across our land. And may the commanded blessing of LIFE EVERMORE, saturate our great nation. (Ps 133)

It is not up to someone else, it is up to us, all of us.  We have the victory; we only need to stand up and enforce it.
