Every year the Super Bowl rolls around, concerns are raised anew about a spike in human trafficking as tens of thousands of people flood into its host city for the event. Victim groups call it the “ugly underbelly” of one of the greatest sports shows on earth.
While a major event like the Super Bowl helps draw attention to a sudden spike in human trafficking, it is an ongoing and growing problem in the United States. It deserves our attention and much strategic prayer to the One who hates injustice and is on the side of the oppressed.
Despite slavery being abolished in 1865 and declared illegal in most of the world, there are twice as many enslaved people today as there were when slavery was legal. According to the International Justice Mission, that amounts to 40.3 million people in slavery worldwide.
The Satanic Roots of Slavery
Why is it that the number of people in slavery has more than doubled despite stringent worldwide laws? As with many practices that have been outlawed but still thrive, slavery has spiritual roots.
It is a symptom of what Jesus predicted the human mindset would be in the Last Days:
“And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.” (Matthew 24:12 ESV)
Increasing lawlessness and lovelessness result in the devaluation of human life. As a result, human traffickers see their victims as nothing more than property to be sold or bought. Their freedom, rights, feelings, mental, and emotional well-being do not count. That attitude is symptomatic of love grown cold. And the willful disdain for laws prohibiting slavery is evidence of abounding lawlessness.
That, of course, is rooted in sin. Man’s sinful nature desires only one thing: to be our own god instead of living in obedience to the God who created us. That desire is why some tread on fellow human beings, reduce their value to that of mere property and use their vulnerability for our profit.
And sin, as we know, has satanic roots. Not only did he inject the human race with it in the garden of Eden (Genesis 3:1-5), but he also uses it to subject the human race to spiritual slavery – bondage to himself. His aim, is to kill and destroy (John 10:10), and the most effective way to do that is to let people destroy each other by any means possible.
Human trafficking is one of those means. As long as greed and lust for wealth so we can elevate ourselves above others reigns in human hearts, people will exploit the vulnerable for profit.
God’s Heart for Victims of Slavery
The first recorded victim of human trafficking was Joseph, who was sold into slavery to an Egyptian official by his brothers. Not long after, the descendants of Jacob’s twelve sons, who would go on to become the twelve tribes of Israel, were enslaved in Egypt by a Pharaoh who feared their growing numbers.
But even though slavery has existed since antiquity, God’s heart is broken over human beings treading on each other and reducing their value to property that can be sold or owned. After all, He is a God of justice who is on the side of the oppressed and the vulnerable and will hold oppressors accountable, including human traffickers.

I don’t watch any sports but particularly the championships like the super bowl. It is a well known fact in Organizations Against Trafficking that this it the ultimate time of the ugly underbelly is the most active. Bringing in boys & girls to satisfy the perverted sexual appetites of the sports fans. We must pray for all of these victims to be rescued and to be blessed by God 🙏
God of angel armies, we call upon You! May the unsuspecting targets of these coyotes sent out to trap victims be blinded by the glory of Your angelic beings and unable to see where they are or even spot the innocent victims! May Your angels surround the camp of the wicked and close them in. May the innocent be shielded from entrapment and harm. We need Your help Abba! We are powerless but You are all powerful.

I pray You will resurrect a spread of freedom for those who are enclaves in sin and also endangered in trafficking of human beings. Open doors and release chains that are binding them. Send workers to this harvest b of souls to disciple them into a new and refreshing relationship with You dearest Jesus. Breathe over victims and give them hope for a future with Your. Breath Your joy into their lives and bring them freedom in Jesus Name.

Father God, I pray for those who are victims of human trafficking. I pray that they would cry out to You for help and that You would rescue them. Please convict those in our government, who recently made this terrible crime, NOT a priority! Help the police rescue those who are trapped and abused by these monsters! Please wake up Your Church to pray for salvation and rehabilitation for the victims. Please jail the perpetrators. In Yeshua’s name, Amen!
This is a HUGE number of victims. How could these numbers be so high? This is PURE EVIL and hard to even comprehend. That’s more people than the city of Los Angeles has in it. This is insanity! How did these numbers get so high? We need to ALL join together! ALL of God’s soldiers, regardless of political beliefs, race or ethnic background! There’s power in numbers! United WE stand and divided WE fall! Please my brothers and sisters we need to rescue the captured and END this evil! We need to stick together. Look around, these are the end times! And I thank you for the Voice of the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, that always pleads for us and brings every word of the accuser to nothing. He ever lives to make intercession for us. We can never appreciate nor thank you enough for your gracious love. But by the lives that we live, we long to. Please help us, too, to give you the honor and praise You deserve! I pray that as You save, heal, and deliver all the abusers and the abused, please lead them into strong ministry callings, bringing all the world to Jesus, no one missing, no one broken. The human mind unfettered by a reverence for and a love of God can concoct the most abominable and despicable of activities. Human trafficking and sexual exploitation of women and men is among the most heinous. But, these kinds of activities cannot exist if there is no demand for it. For months now I have been using the authority Jesus gave us to bind the demons of sexual perversions and of mental illnesses to help end this atrocity of human trafficking. But after reading this article I realize we also need to be binding the demons of greed and power.

Thank you for this article. I live about 5 miles from the stadium where the Superbowl will be played tomorrow. I have a Toyota Highlander named El Peligroso (meaning “The Dangerous”) It has black tinted windows and black rimmed wheels and is basically my prayer mobile I use to fight against the Kingdom of Darkness. (The Lord brought this to me, already named, just after I had finished a study on the armor of God and the Lord had been reminding me to live every day armed and dangerous.) 🙂 Anyway, I blazed a trail around the stadium last week and as a King and Priest unto my God called down 1,000 hosts from the army of Heaven to stand shoulder to shoulder in a square around the stadium (across Cardinal Way and up 91st Avenue, back on Glendale Ave. and beside Loop 101 to make a ring of fire. I decreed and declared that every person who crossed this ring of fire by walking or by car that the hosts would demolish strongholds off of them in the Name of Jesus. And that the entire 1-mile square would be covered by the blood of Jesus. The word “bankrupt human trafficking” came. May all leaders who are trying to organize human trafficking be blinded and mute and all men trying to abuse victims be impotent. May they fall to their knees in the fear of God as they see this happen. Will you join me in these prayers and thank God with me for the exposures, rescues and breakthroughs He will bring as we look to Him, where our help comes from?

Personally, I stopped watching NFL games several years ago, when I became aware that some of the Super Bowl ads were offensive to me and my value system. I am sorry to hear about the human trafficking that tak3es place at the city where the game is held. It is symptomatic of how our society has turned its back on God. Perhaps He is leaving us to suffer the consequences of our poor choices as a nation. Lord, please, turn this nation back to You. grace us with a Great Awakening. We DESPERATELY need for this to happen.
Revival is spreading.. Houghes Auditorium at Asbury University Chapel in Wilmore, Kentucky had spontaneous revival break out Wednesday morning 02/08/23, at shortly after 10 AM and its been going 24/7 since. Students from other Universities in other states have been coming in. I know of a group from a church in KS that has come.

Wonderful, educational article re human trafficking, especially the sin connection with Bible examples.
I would add the Gender/Sex component to your article. Men are sexually Driven; Women are relationally driven. This is God’s design for Human Marriage to protect women and children from poverty and exploitation. Human Trafficking for sex is driven by the Porn industry. Both are driven by biological males who use “front women” to legitimate their evil practices.
Eve became Adam’s “front woman” when he, Adam failed to Obey God re not eating from Tree of knowledge of Good/Evil. Though Eve knew of the Prohibition, the Command was given directly to Adam as the Head by God.
Adam failed to Obey God by failing to Provide Godly fruit for his wife and Protect her from the Serpent’s Seduction. Satan chose Eve as the “weaker (not lesser) vessel” to initiate the Fall. Adam, instead of physically interjecting himself to knock the apple out of her hand (No honey, don’t eat the apple) and then refusing to partake in her sinful disobedience, went ahead and ate also.
Eve rightly blamed the serpent for Deceiving her as her God Given trusting/nurturing nature made her an easy target to manipulate. Adam as the God Given Head wrongly blamed both Eve and GOD (for the woman YOU gave me).
Both were punished and the Battle of the Sexes began with God’s curse on them both in Genesis To Eve: “Your Desire will be for your Husband” (instead of God) and (in return for your Idolatry of obeying Man over God) “HE SHALL RULE OVER YOU.”
But JESUS came to set the Captives FREE. The very model for Human Slavery was Male over Female, then Male over Male. And now we have the greatest war on God Given Gender/Sex ever waged as our “Christian” tax dollars support Abortion linked to sex slavery Sodomy, via “legalization” of sodomite marriage and Transgender education in public schools and Transgender chemical and surgical “Health Care” similar to Abortion “Health Care.”
Almost all Christian Apologetics fails to include Gender/Sex as ordained by God: Male and Female, He Created (not evolved) Them. Statistically, 99.99% of all sex crimes, human trafficking, pornography, domestic violence and murders are committed by MEN, yet we seek out and publicize isolated incidents of female perps.
The Bible names only 11 or 12 “wicked” women, compared to millions of “wicked” Men. Satan wanted to be God, Men want to be God, subject and enslave Women to Worship them, and Women followed who are designed by God to Follow and “Help” the bad lead of Sinful Men.
Women need to stop worshipping Men, especially wicked violent husbands and wicked Men in Government and worship Jesus only. And Righteous Women will be persecuted for both their Righteousness AND their Gender/Sex (not Gender Identification). Righteous Men will be persecuted too, but not typically for their Gender/Sex, although the woman-hating “Sodomite Agenda” to utterly obliterate heterosexuality will eventually be use against Righteous Hetero men. May God have Mercy on us!
Lord, please expose the root system of all traffickers. In particular expose the people who are trafficking others. Allow police and authorities take these perpetrators into custody – while they are in jail not harming others. Please send them deliverance, teachers and healers for their warped souls. Heal the victims too. In Jesus Name amen.
I don’t understand why abduction and abuse is being called slavery. This is a crime not a social norm to correct. It wastes my emotional and spiritual energy with the mislabeling of this crime. Trafficking is an on going problem like organized crime. It can be dealt with.. more effectively with policing, detectives, investigators. Prayer.
Hi Susan. Mary here. I agree With what you say but I also know from experience that the spiritual dynamic behind trafficking and related crimes must be addressed to realize any true victory. When the courts of heaven and the courts of earth work in harmony, it is a beautiful thing.

The enslaving of people to do the will of others is slavery.
I too, thought it odd at first but trafficked people–whether they’re sex slaves, or production/manufacturing slaves are people being held against their will and forced to do the will of their oppressors.

Phoenix is not only hosting the Super Bowl this weekend but the Waste Management golf event, both literally just miles from where I live. The spiritual oppression here is palpable. I ask that you send your Holy Spirit to the Oppressors Lord so they may see the grave errors of their ways. Instill in them Love for your Father God rather than the lust for sin and greed with which Satan tempts. I ask in Your Son’s precious name to surround these victims of evil with your divine providence and protection and bestow upon them Your Grace and Peace. In Jesus Name.

Father God we pray that you will bring him into this evil expose the plans of the enemy help us cry out in unity to you King Jesus as you have all authority on heaven and in Earth your kingdom come your will be done on Earth as it is in heaven. Break through the darkness with your Marvelous Light and bring freedom to the captives. Raise up those that will help them continue to walk in their freedom. And your powerful name I’m by your Authority we pray this
Lord please help people who are the victims of human trafficking. Help law enforcement to help those who suffer from this horrible sin. God we all need You but especially the people who are used by others in this way. I pray for them in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
Dear Lord Jesus we pray for the end of human trafficking. For your hand over those that are hurt abused and held captive, deliver them Lord from their captors and restore their life in Jesus name may they come to know you Jesus and feel your peace in Jesus name
