Lord God, we pray for the peace of our cities.

We are reprinting this article from our archives. Tensions are hot in the country and we are urging intercessors to fortify their own communities in prayer. The following prayer points come from Bowie, Maryland on their website Turn on the Light Bowie

When praying for your city, begin by thanking the Lord who is “guarding the city” right now!

Psalm 127:1 says, “Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain.”

1.  Pray for Spiritual Awakening in the Churches in your City.

Pray the Scriptural prayers found in Eph 1:15-213:14-21Phil 1:9-11Col 1:9-124:121 Thes 3:10-135:232 Thes 1:11-122:16-173:1-5; Phil 4-6; and Heb 13:20-21.

When you pray these Scriptures, insert the name of congregations and assemblies in your city, asking God to bring the fullness of Jesus’ life into the church. Remember the example of Epaphras, a servant of Christ who “wrestled in prayer” for the Christians that lived in three cities – Colosse, Laodicia, and Hierapolis (Col 4:12).

2.  Pray Against the Spiritual Strongholds of Darkness over your City.

Ephesians 6:12 teaches of the constant spiritual battle in the heaven lies.. actual strongholds that the enemy has over geographic areas. (see also Dan 10:10-13).

Command the “rulers, authorities, powers of this dark world, and the spiritual forces of evil” in the north, south, east, and west of your city to “give up” those people held in spiritual bondage (see Is 43:5,6). Praise the Lord that people will come to Jesus from the four sections of your city. (Lk 13:29)

3.  Pray for the Leadership and Authorities in your City

– such as the Mayor, the City Council, Police Chief, School Board, etc. – 1 Tim 2:1-4.

4.  Ask God to Bless your City.

“Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted” – Proverbs 11:11

The greatest blessing God can send is Jesus Christ, who will turn people from their wickedness, and bring them salvation. – Acts 3:26.

5.  Pray for the Welfare of your City.

“…seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” – Jeremiah 29:7

6.  Pray for the People of your City to Turn to God.

Remember the Nineveh (read Jn 3:1-10) and Samaria did (John 4:39-42).

7.  Pray for Peace within your City and for the Prosperity of the City. – Psalm 122:6,7

8.  Pray for your City to Support Righteousness and Goodness.

“When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.” – Proverbs 11:10

9.  Pray for your City to be a Testimony of Righteousness. – Matthew 5:14,16

10. Pray that your City would recognize the time of God’s visitation. – Luke 19:41-44

In the more recent years GOD has given me a burden to cry out for my home cities; Bossier City and Shreveport. The blood of many young are being shed on the city streets. I know this is not the will of GOD. So I really appreciate the work this great work. It is needful and definitely Helpful.

    Amen! 1
  3. First let us give the Lord thanks for the abundance of all things. Please pray that the Lord would deliver his people from evil men; That the Lord would preserve his people from violent men, who plan evil things in their heart and stir up wars continually. Pray against the spirit of anti Christ, false witness, terrorism, leviathan, jezebel, witchcraft, hatred, divination and violence. Pray for world wide repentance that people would turn to God, so that he will forgive their sins. Please pray and intercede without ceasing that God’s will be done in the lives of the world’s leaders and for our leaders to seek God and listen to Him. Pray that they would be surrounded by godly counsel and, that President Trump and the world leaders would personally know God and the salvation found through faith in Jesus Christ alone. That we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. God can turn the hearts of kings. Earnestly pray that the people of America and its leaders will humble themselves and seek the Lords face and turn from their wicked ways. Pray that the Lord would hear from heaven and forgive our countries sins and heal our land. God Bless America Pray that the Lord would grant peace in America, that we may lie down and no one will make us afraid. That the Lord would remove wild beasts from the land, and that the sword will not pass through our country and that President Trump along with our leaders be filled with power, with the Spirit of the Lord, and with justice and might to declare the sins of Gods people. Please pray for revival and that the Lord would pour out his spirit on his servants, throughout the world both men and women. Pray for the peace of Israel. Gods will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus Name, Amen.

    Amen! 4
  4. Father,God I pray that every city within our nation will learn to praise and worship before the victory. Declaring the praise of heaven upon the earth in there cities speaking forth the Word of God is the victory.

Praise in spite of circumstances or “feelings” Give praise and glory to God in the face of every obstacle Before we see the victory. Amen.

    Amen! 1
  5. Thank you so much for these powerful and anointed prayer points. God has appointed us as priests and watchmen over the cities we dwell in. So we need to stand in the gap and intercede for our cities. Thanks once again.

    Amen! 2
    1. Please pray for the city of Milwaukee. WI. The city is being destroyed from dangerous drivers. The drivers ed program was taken away for years. Besides, there are people driving while under the influence. Our street lights are being knocked down and drivers are crashing into our homes. Please pray that God will pour out his spirit here. And that our ears will become open to the Gospel.

      Amen! 2
  6. Father God, I pray for the entire cites and for our nations Awake the churches to show the gospel light to the people who live in darkness. I pray for our nation to come to gospel light, and let your kingdom come. In Jesus name I pray.

    Amen! 2
  7. We are not only praying as a seasonal prayer but we have to pray without ceasing. Not only do we have to pray for our cites but also we have to pray for our churches, nations, and for our Leaders.
Father God Lead our Leaders in their daily basis give the wisdom and knoweelege. Awake the church to show the gospel light to the people who live in darkness. I pray for our nation to come to gospel light, and let your kingdom come. In Jesus name I pray.

    Amen! 2
  8. Father, I thank You for all Your blessings. Give us all an attitude of gratitude. Make us thankful for the gift of salvation and the hope of eternity with You. Lord we lift Luke 10:2 before You: The harvest is truly great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.
Father, indeed the harvest is before our eyes, out our front doors as well as within the walls of our homes. Father we pray for the Spirit of wisdom and revelation to be poured out on our cities and our local politicians so that they may know You. We pray for eyes of their hearts to be enlightened that they may know the hope to which You have called them. To us, Your children, those called by Your name, You give great power to be a light in the darkness and to bring life to where there is spiritual death. Father, embolden us and loosen our tongues to speak Your truth. Empower us to stand for right and give us discernment to know what is truly right. Prevent us from being deceived along with the masses.

We ask for our leaders, locally as well as nationally to be filled with the knowledge of Your will through all wisdom and understanding. Overflowing with the Spirit so they as well as we may live a life worthy of the Lord and pleasing to Him in every way; bearing fruit in every good work, and growing in the knowledge of God and giving joyful thanks to the Father.
Lord, we wrestle in prayer for our churches, pastors and our communities. Please make our pastors men of God, endowed with integrity and sincerely seeking after You and the good of their flocks. Please make our churches places of refuge, where the lost, hurt, and dying can come and be ministered to by the truth of Your Word. Remove all judgment and criticalness from Your people. Make us Your instruments of Your Agape love and peace. Please enable us to stand firm in all the will of God, being mature and fully assured of Your help and goodness. We ask that You would supply what is lacking in our faith and make our love increase and overflow for each other. Strengthen our hearts so that we will be blameless and holy in the presence of God.
Father, we pray You would guard our cities from the evil and the hatred that is running rampant through our towns and communities; from the chaos and unruliness of those who are under Satan’s control. Indeed we do not wrestle against flesh and blood. We ask You, LORD to contain the principalities, authorities and world-rulers of the darkness of this age in the heavenlies. We ask for a season of prosperity of the Word of God and for the enemy to be bound so we can plant more seed without being hindered.
We pray that You would bless our cities; that those living in them may be upright before You. We seek the peace and prosperity of our cities. That we may rejoice when the wicked are brought down and perish. Father, help us all to see that You have given us a time of reprieve with the election of Donald Trump as President. Help us to use this time wisely to build Your Kingdom. Help America to recognize the time of God’s coming to her. Make her repentant and change the way our country is going down in history.
All praise and honor to Your, the Holy One.

    Amen! 3
  9. Dear Father, May your kingdom come, and your will done on earth as it is in heaven. Father God, you know and see how broken my city is. Most people want to move away because it’s been corrupted by city cousol in the past and has dealt with extream poverty, the infiltration of gang life, the sad growing reality of homeless, and lots of open drug lifestyle. As a result, many businesses are leaving and not many will do business here. I pray Father, that you will bring salvation to all those in leadership of our city, all the way down to the man at the gas station begging for change. Lift the spiritual bondage and rebellion from all the lives that are effecting this city. Bring godly teachers who care, into the school systems. Bless and anoint every pastor in our city. Give them open doors that no man can shut. And last but not least, wake up all the dads in our community to live for you Lord, and to make a difference in their homes. In Jesus name

    Amen! 3
  10. Thank you, yes we need to pray scriptural promises, all the Christians I know are having so many issues thrown at them in their personal lives, I think Satan is trying to bombard us so that we turn inward in this crucial time in our country…so take courage, brothers and sisters. The “fiery darts of the devil” mean that you are a valid soldier for righteousness! Stand firm! We are more than conquerors. The wrong will fail, the right prevail!

    Amen! 2
  11. Lord God, our Heavenly Father, help us,your children to use these prayer points to good effect. Lord raise up more intercessors and may they be taught from the word as this article shows. Wake us up and remind us of the part we have to play in bringing your kingdom here to earth. Bless you Lord, we are so thankful for you. Knit our hearts together in your love, in Jesus name, Amen

    Amen! 2
  12. I cannot thank you enough for these helps for prayer for our city. It is so often difficult to find the words to express what is in my heart. This is wonderful. I will share w/ others

    Amen! 1
