After Oregon decriminalized hard drugs in 2020, drug usage and overdose rates skyrocketed. Now, the state has decided to reconsider its position.

From Breitbart. Oregon’s Democrat governor signed a bill on Monday that restores criminal penalties for possessing small amounts of drugs as the problems of addiction and overdose plague residents across the state.

Post a prayer for your state!

In February, Gov. Tina Kotek declared a state of emergency in Portland as the number of fentanyl overdoses skyrocketed a few years after drug use was decriminalized in the state, Breitbart News reported.

Meanwhile, NBC News reported Monday the recently signed law stipulates that possession of small amounts of drugs, including heroin or methamphetamine, will be deemed a misdemeanor.

The punishment that comes with being caught with the hard drugs could land suspects in jail for up to six months, the outlet said, adding that officials will offer individuals treatment as another option when it comes to criminal penalties. …

In 2020, voters in Oregon passed the decriminalization measure that reduced penalties but was also an effort to help those struggling to get treatment.

In February, Breitbart News reported that the state’s fentanyl overdose rate rose by 1,530 percent in the past few years, a number that was the most dramatic increase rate across America. …

The problem is not the addict! Requiring an addict to go to treatment if they do not want to break free! I know, I have been clean for over 24 years because I went in wanting to break free! The state solutions appear to be made without ever consulting recovering addicts!
The problem is the suppliers, the cartels, the drug runners, etc!

Thank you Jesus and Heavenly Father for exposing the darkness of drugs to those who would rather keep their eyes closed. Please minister to those lost souls, convict them of their sin, pride and their need of you. Please help deliver them from their sorcery of drug use and a life of sin. Please Jesus help them see the wretchedness. The wretchedness we all have. For none are good, but God. Amen.

Father, we call the prodigals home. People on drugs need the healing power that comes from God alone. Heal their hurts, their brokenness, their everything. Transfer them from the domain of darkness into the Kingdom of Thy Dear Son. Let revival begin on the streets. Thank You, Lord. Amen.
