Do you see a way forward for America? Some days, I feel like I do. But other days—the majority of the time, to be totally transparent—I’m just not sure what that way would be. Nearly every day when I think about our great nation, my first thought is simply a desperate plea: “God, help.”

Discuss issues you care about with other intercessors.

If you feel the same way, I want to encourage you today by reminding you about the great power of our God.

God has always been involved in government, and He always will be.

After all, the government of the whole world sits upon His shoulder:

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this (Isaiah 9:6-7 NKJV).

God Himself is the governmental center of the universe. He created the worlds; He sustains them; and He alone has the final say about the destiny of people and nations.

And remember, He is a Waymaker.

Our God single-handedly brought His people Israel through the Red Sea on dry land, but the Egyptians who tried to follow were drowned. Years later, God Himself, without any assistance, chose to make the River Jordan pile up upon itself so His people could again pass through on dry land.

Think about a few of the other times He made a way where there was no way:

• He turned the heart of Cyrus to send His people Israel back to Jerusalem after decades of captivity. He even caused that king to fund the rebuilding of Jerusalem with his own money. That was a miracle!
• He gave us our Savior through the womb of a virgin. What a miracle that is!
• He caused the Gospel to spread throughout the known world in the book of Acts, despite the fact that both the Jews and the Romans were persecuting the church. It is a miracle that the Gospel was able to get out at all!

And throughout the last two thousand years, we have seen so many additional miracles that have been world-changing in scope.

For example:

• The preservation of the Bible, which is the inerrant, infallible Word of God. The fact that the Scriptures have been preserved so beautifully, and handed down from generation to generation without corruption, is a huge miracle!
• The fact that the tiny and ill-equipped United States of America won her independence fighting against the British Army and Navy—one of the largest and most elite fighting forces in the world at that time—is a huge miracle, and is evidence of the hand of God on our country.
• Think also about the creation of Israel in 1948, when a nation was literally born in a day!

Friend, we may not always see a way or even have any idea where to go to find the way.

But, our God is a Waymaker. He Himself is the path we need:

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6 NKJV).

And if we will just follow Him, He will lead us into and through the path that only He can see. As He promised us in Psalm 32:

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye (Psalm 32:8 NKJV).

Let us never forget that Jesus Himself is the Way that America needs—and He is the way we need for America.

He is our Path, our Hope, and our Guiding Light. He is the Light of the world. And if we will simply seek Him, He will give us everything we need:

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you (Matthew 6:33 NKJV).

That promise of His provision includes giving us hope for this fair land that we love. It includes making a way where there seems to be no way. And it includes answering our prayers and petitions as we continue to lift up His name over this great land, for Jesus promised:

And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself (John 12:32 NKJV).
