So many have prayed for revival and awakening in America – some for many years!  Barbi and I have had the privilege of being a part of a true move of God over the last month (February 2020). We have witnessed an unprecedented outpouring of God’s Spirit in Rogersville, Tennessee that began Sunday, February 2, 2020. We are calling it a “Revival of Repentance.”

We were asked by Pastor John Butler of East Rogersville Baptist Church to lead worship for a 3-day conference, and as we began our first worship song, people flooded the altar without an invitation—weeping and repenting of sins.  Soon ERBC extended the nightly services, and we cleared our schedule for what has become 4 weeks of true revival and awakening.  Amazingly, and typical of historic awakenings, some who’ve attended church for their whole lives realized they had never trusted Christ as Savior.  Many church members say the whole atmosphere of their church has changed.  And now churches nearby are experiencing a wave of new conversions as well.  Could this be the beginning of another Great Awakening in our nation?  We pray so!

As the Tennessee Statewide Coordinator for the “Awaken” fasting and prayer effort, Barbi has distributed fasting and prayer packets across our state through the 20 prayer leaders we’ve been working with.  The founder of “Awaken,” Pastor Dave Clayton of Ethos Church, provided over 40,000 prayer packets to individuals and their families in well over 1,000 churches that joined this fast across 10 major cities or counties in Tennessee.

Each night at ERBC, many have flooded the altar for prayer, especially the youth and young adults, but sometimes the elderly, parents, and even children.  This has truly been a move of God and special care has been made not to manipulate people in any way.  God has continued to bring ongoing genuine, deep conviction of sin, and revelation of His deep love and forgiveness as wave after wave of individuals have flooded the altar to get right with God.

Many in Rogersville and Hawkins County have gotten “right with God,” repenting and being cleansed and delivered from pornography, drug and alcohol abuse, bondages of fear, anger, bitterness, apathy, or just realizing they are not truly saved.  Prodigals and lukewarm Christians have come back to their “first love” and been set free and set on fire for Jesus.  Most of the churches in the Rogersville area that were involved in this revival had joined the Awaken fast (Jan 26 to Feb 23, 2020).  They are also now seeing salvation responses greatly increase in their own weekly services. So this is spreading across the whole region!  Please pray this spreads across all of Tennessee and beyond, where God has begun great unified prayer gatherings and efforts throughout the fast in February!

On Friday, February 28, ERBC announced they would return to their weekly services as they will now transition to discipleship training for those who are saved, and outreach to their community in keeping with the “Great Commission.”  Four more people came to the Lord on Friday night, and a flood more came to the altar for prayer.  The church will continue to assess the direction the Lord is leading them to go as this movement progresses and more are saved, delivered, and trained and nurtured in God’s Word.

Barbi and I met almost exactly 40 years ago.  Even back then, both of us saw the need for revival and awakening in the American Church and began to pray and worship together, pursuing this unified goal.  After 2 years of marriage we began a full-time concert ministry and later added marriage retreats with a prayer emphasis.  Our theme is still “Inspiring Love in the Home & Revival in the Church.” (See www.LoveSings.com for our global ministry – formerly Heart for the World)

In 2010, we felt an urgency to lead “concerts of worship and prayer,” strengthening the prayer emphasis in our Family Worship Events and Marriage Retreats.  In Spring of 2011 we heard of revival that had sprung up from fasting and prayer efforts in Cairo, Egypt.  Since then this move of God has spread all across Egypt and the Middle East, with literally millions of Muslims getting saved.  After visiting there, seeing the results early on, it sparked an unquenchable flame in our hearts to see revival and awakening in America through fasting, prayer and worship.  As a result, it also inspired our local ministry in Tennessee, Worship City, “Changing our Cities to Change the World through Fasting, Prayer & Worship”.
