A Democratic Michigan lawmaker is stepping away from office, citing a growing divide between her Christian faith and the direction of her political party. Her decision highlights the many ways in which the Left and the Democrat party have abandoned Scripture and people of faith in recent years.

Michigan state Rep. Karen Whitsett is stepping away from political office, saying her Christian faith no longer aligns with today’s Democratic Party after years of clashes over abortion, transgender issues and party leadership. Whitsett, who represents parts of north and northwest Detroit in the 4th House District, announced in March that she would not be seeking re-election or run for office again, calling the choice to walk away a “spiritual decision.”
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Whitsett said she could no longer support the Democratic Party. Over the past four years, she found herself increasingly at odds with party leaders for pushing policies she felt were incompatible with her beliefs. “I don’t understand how ‘Christian’ and ‘Bible’ go together [with] ‘Democratic Party,’” she added.
“For me, it is impossible to be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ while remaining a member of the Democratic Party as it exists today. I cannot reconcile that platform with Scripture,” Whitsett also recently said. “I don’t have a heaven or hell to put anyone in. Only God does. But I do have God’s unwavering Word to stand on, and I can no longer compromise it to fit a party platform or to please people.”
Representative Whitsett’s departure underscores the growing divide between the modern Democratic Party and the Bible. Over recent years, the party has increasingly championed policies on abortion and gender identity that directly conflict with traditional biblical teachings, while often framing opposition to those policies as intolerance. For Christians seeking to remain faithful to Scripture, this has created an environment where standing on biblical truth can lead to political isolation or backlash.
The Representative spoke directly to this tension, telling Fox, “I don’t want to go to hell. That’s just the bottom line. And right now, people are on that wide path, and you’re compromising, and it’s a very slippery slope.” She also highlighted how party leadership forbids dissent, forbidding her from voting for bills she felt would be beneficial for her constituents.
Representative Whitsett says she believes God is leading her into a new season outside of office, focused on helping restore a biblical foundation. She has even expressed interest in working with the Trump administration to help black families in the future. For intercessors, this moment is a call to pray for Christian leaders across the nation. Let’s pray that they wouldn’t compromise their beliefs, and that they would stand boldly for what the Bible says!

Praying God’s blessing over Rep Whitsett as she takes a stand for righteousness and surrenders herself to completely follow God’s will. She is an example to follow and a voice crying in the wilderness for so many in the Democratic Party to wake up and stand up and speak up for what is right with God.

As an 80 year old gal, I often tell people, ‘this is NOT the America I grew up in’! It is so sad to see that has taken over! God help and protect our young people!
Praise God for her standing on her true beliefs. I pray for her protection. We only need a few more to do exactly as she’s doing. Out country has been going down a dangerous path.

We need strong leaders with integrity who stand firm for the Judeo-Christian ethic.
The Democratic party has increasingly advocated abortion on demand even in latter stages of pregnancy & some have even advocated infanticide. They have increasingly supported the extremes of the LGBTQ+ agenda & threatened parental rights. religious freedom & conscience rights. I agree that Biblical Christianity & the Democratic party are becoming increasingly incompatible.
Until recently pro-life Christians have found a political home among conservative Republicans. But President Trump is wavering in his commitment to the pro-life cause. I voted for him in 2016, 2020 & 2024, but now he is not the same as the person who served in his first term. His immigration policy has gone above & beyond border restrictions & deporting those who engage in human sex trafficking & other crimes. Many otherwise innocent & decent undocumented immigrants are being treated inhumanely & separated from their families instead of being helped & required to follow a second chance clear cut path to legalization. He has overstepped boundaries in his foreign policy & entered us into war when covert help to Iranian citizens working to overthrow their tyrannical government would have been a wiser course of action. He has moved away from his former position of avoiding US military involvement in “other people’s wars”. He is talking about taking over Cuba. acting as if this could be another one of his business deals instead of showing respect for the sovereignty of nations, even our adversaries..
I deeply respect those who have opened their eyes to the evils promoted by the modern Democratic party & who are acting in good conscience by leaving the party.
I wish the Republican party & the Trump administration could be the proper place for such leaders to go, but I am finding that the Republican party & the Trump administration have also veered away from what they are supposed to be.
I wish the AMERICAN SOLIDARITY PARTY could become a more viable alternative. We need policies faithful to the Judeo-Christian ethic that are truly pro-life, that demonstrate respect for GOD, respect for human rights & human dignity for everyone from the unborn to the elderly & the dying & everyone in between without exception, for our founding documents & the rule of law, for GOD’S Creation, & compassion & justice to the most vulnerable, including undocumented immigrant families that have clearly neither perpetrated nor demonstrated any intent to perpetrate harm to anyone.
We need godly leaders & godly political parties. Where can we find one & make their chances of holding political office & making a positive difference in helping to make America GOOD & more in line with GOD? LORD, please raise them up!
