Analysis. The fact that a great nation like America has no long-term energy policy is difficult to believe, but it is true. This lack of planning created a vacuum that has allowed each administration to institute its own short-term energy policy. Subsequently, all energy policies from the Biden administration aim to transition the country to renewable energy sources of wind, solar, and electricity to address the urgent threat of climate change. This shows a blatant disregard for the economic consequences of transitioning this nation to underdeveloped energy sources within an unrealistic time frame. If the administration has its way, America’s economic system will collapse, harming our poorest people and our middle class, and delivering the country into the hands of the Great Reset oligarchs.

How did we get into this situation? More importantly, how do we pray to stop the plans of those seeking to use energy as a tool to destroy our nation?

We Got Here Through a Failure to Plan

The Department of Energy Organization Act of 1977, passed under President Jimmy Carter, created the first U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The doors to the newly developed DOE opened on Oct. 1, 1977, with the stated purpose “of securing effective management to assure a coordinated national energy policy and for other purposes.” From the opening day until now, the DOE has not produced a long-term coordinated national energy policy. The U.S. needs an energy policy for the next 50 years.

The Biden Administration’s Disastrous Energy Policy

Since entering the 2020 presidential race, candidate Biden repeatedly reaffirmed that climate change was his top priority. It was no surprise, then, that on his first day in office, Jan. 20, 2021, President Biden recommitted the U.S. to the United Nations Paris Climate Agreement. His first-year executive orders and regulations flowed from the White House, signaling the administration’s determination to force the U.S. into a drastic energy transition for which we are ill-prepared.

Foreseeing skyrocketing pre-election oil prices that could negatively affect the November election outcomes, on April 1, 2022, President Biden ordered the release of one million barrels of oil per day from the nation’s strategic oil reserve. The move did not reduce the spiking  energy prices to the administration’s satisfaction, resulting in a second release on October 19, 2022, of fifteen million additional barrels of oil from our strategic reserve. According to Forbes, our current reserve is dangerously low at 450 million barrels, down from 640 million barrels in 2020. Low reserves make us even more vulnerable to supply-chain disruptions created by outside attacks and global politics. The 1973 OPEC oil embargo against the U.S. prompted a build-up of reserves that the Biden administration is now depleting.

To make things worse, Biden appointed former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm as secretary of energy. Granholm has no background in energy — she is a lawyer and a professional politician who served as a member of the Barack Obama presidential transition team. So far, Granholm’s statements do not reflect oil policy, but rather climate change opinions, with no energy policy substance. She embraces any policy that enforces the administration’s urgency to transition to wind and solar power, no matter the cost to American citizens.

No doubt, a quick and premature transition is what Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen referred to in a speech delivered at the Ford Rouge Electric Vehicle Center, in Dearborn, Michigan, on Sept. 8, 2022. “We will rid ourselves from our current dependence on fossil fuels and the whims of autocrats like Putin,” Yellen said. “We cannot return to the old normal.”

Why the Democrats’ Green Energy Plan Won’t Work

Mark P. Mills, an energy expert and senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, puts forth an excellent argument for why Biden’s urgent transition will not work. In a recent podcast, Mills argues that the technology does not yet exist that can make successful the dramatic transition the administration proposes. Pointing to the current data, Mills says there are no solutions that can help us deal with any rapid abandonment of hydrocarbon usage. Almost every energy proposal has to do with climate change, which is the wrong approach, he says, because the physics of energy is something different from the theories of climate change. Instead, he suggests, we should transition from one energy source to another only as developments in cleaner, more efficient energy become available. Climate change activists quickly launched a barrage of name-calling and insults at Mills.

Biden recently signed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) into law. This law allocates $369 billion for climate solutions and environmental justice. It puts the U.S. on an urgent but unobtainable path to a 40 percent reduction in emissions by 2030, a goal that, according to energy expert Robert A. Hefner III, is a waste of money. Hefner is an oil and gas expert and a thought leader in energy transitions. He believes that energy transitions should be a natural flow in which the public has a chance to embrace new energy sources. Hefner calls these “grand energy transitions.” He predicts a dismal outlook whenever the government forces an energy change: ‘”Our energy past shows us that government actions, mandates, and policies that oppose natural transitions are eventually overpowered. They waste taxpayer money, direct badly needed brainpower in the wrong direction, waste venture capital, and slow progress toward more sustainable economic growth and higher quality of life” (The Grand Energy Transition, 24).

Hefner recommends that the country transition first to natural gas as a cleaner alternative to coal and oil. According to the Natural Gas Institute, the U.S. has about 90 years of natural gas reserves, and the good part is that natural gas is not a fossil fuel.

America Needs a Long-Term Policy Focusing on America’s Energy Resources

Once the country recovers from the energy disaster of this current administration, there must be long-term energy planning. Mark Stansberry, a forerunner for energy independence in America, says he believes America has long had the potential to be energy independent. But the nation’s lack of a strategic energy plan makes us dependent on foreign oil, threatens our national security, and leaves us vulnerable to unrealistic policies like those imposed by the Biden administration. Stansberry has written an excellent book, titled America Needs America’s Energy, in which he explains the issues we face as a result of our lack of a national policy. Stansberry says he sees no such long-term policy coming soon, and he encourages each American to develop a personal energy policy (America Needs America’s Energy, 103–108). Stansberry has also authored a comprehensive resource guide to possible transitional energy sources: America Needs America’s Energy and Its Natural Resources.

Where We Are

Klaus Schwab, founder and chairman of the World Economic Forum, said at the 2022 World Government Summit in March: “History is truly at a turning point. We do not yet know the full extent and the systemic and structural changes which will happen. However, we do know that global energy systems, food systems, and supply chains will be deeply affected.” Pointing to the economic fallout from COVID-19, the dangers of climate change, and the clashing of world governments, Schwab insists that the answer to any global food and energy crisis is to expand government power.

Governments must act now, Schwab stressed.

Actually, we intercessors must act now. We must believe in God for the redemption of our land, which includes not just the people, but the natural resources as well. Even a single discovery of a new energy source would empower this nation. Hefner gives great encouragement: “Historically, a nation has a surge in prosperity whenever a new energy source is discovered” (The Grand Energy Transition, 8).

That could be where we are. Let’s pray.

Lord, thank You for blessing our nation with abundant energy sources. Now we stand at a dangerous juncture and need Your help to deliver us from unwise men who use our energy as a tool to destroy this nation. We ask You to protect our energy sources. We ask for a long-term strategy for the wise use of our resources. We ask that You reveal the secrets of discoveries in energy to Your people. We give You thanks for Your faithfulness in answering our prayers. Amen.
