UNPRECEDENTED TIME . . . FOR THE GOSPEL
UNPRECEDENTED TIME . . . FOR THE GOSPEL
The word “unprecedented” has been used a lot lately. An unprecedented virus, and unprecedented lockdown, an unprecedented economic crisis. Bloomberg recently reported that for major businesses “the use of the word unprecedented has become, well, unprecedented.”
You might be getting tired of it.
But here’s the thing. This IS an unprecedented time for sharing the Gospel. We must not miss it! Please pray that we don’t miss it!
A ‘Great Quarantine Revival’?
Last week in “A New Day at Home and Abroad,” I wrote about an Indian pastor’s hope for a “new day” in his country amidst the coronavirus lockdown. We touched on whether this could be a new day for the Gospel in our nation, too.
Guess what I read this past week?
On Thursday, FOX NEWS reported, “As churches and ministries are seeing record numbers online due to the coronavirus pandemic, one evangelist is calling it the ‘Great Quarantine Revival.’”
The evangelist being referred to is Nick Hall, founder of evangelism ministry PULSE. Partnering with leaders like Ravi Zacharias, Francis Chan, Bob Goff, David Platt, Michael W. Smith, Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.), Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), and more, Hall held several virtual events leading up to Easter. Services were transmitted to nearly 100 countries and translated into 40 languages. FOX indicates 117,000 people around the world accepted Christ as their Savior through this effort!
Hall said, “The doors to our church buildings may have been closed, but the church has not closed. We are living through a Great Quarantine Revival, and I think God is just getting started.”
Technology is a Tool of the Moment
We all know technology can be misused, but it also can be a powerful tool for light and life. That is certainly the case in this crisis.
Nick Hall leveraged today’s technology in Pulse’s outreach. Others are doing the same.
Last week, I mentioned a spike in “good news” Google searches and a surge of people coming to Christian websites and hearing the Gospel. Christianity Today reports that one group, Global Media Outreach, registered a 170 percent increase in clicks on search engine ads about finding hope. Also, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) and Cru created specially designed internet tools for ministry in the pandemic. Cru’s student page is on pace to receive 20 million more visitors than last year, and BGEA told CT their new outreach had more than 191,000 online visitors and 11,000 decisions to accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
Ed Stetzer and his colleague Josh Laxton at Wheaton College’s Billy Graham Center recently expressed their hope that churches will come out of this crisis learning to “utilize tech as the new Mars Hill.” (See Acts 17:22-31)
Indeed, this is a time for churches and ministries to explore the reach of technology. On my blog I recently pondered whether churches could tap into the world of 164 million U.S. adults who play video games. I think there could be fertile ground for innovation there, but maybe it would turn out to be a terrible idea. I don’t know. The point is to explore.
Keep It Simple
What if I don’t have a ministry that can reach across the globe? And maybe technology isn’t really my thing?
Well, first I would say that you do have access to power that is more than global in scale. It’s also vaster in scope than any human invention.
You can pray to God the Almighty, Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer.
Then, here are several relevant ideas from campus ministry leader Paul Worcester. A few simple ways he suggests to take action: reach out to a friend from the past, make follow up calls for your church, or… just go take a walk and meet neighbors where they’re at.
What steps do you have mind for this unprecedented time? Share in the comments section.
May the Lord overcome this dark and deadly pandemic. May His light and love shine though us.

Pentecost is May 31 this year and I am praying for the Latter Rain! Come quickly LORD JESUS ♥️♥️♥️
Today, as our worship team was praying in preparation for recording our live stream service, the Lord gave us a word that He was doing something new. We ought not to look for things to return to normal because God does’t want things to return to normal. The current crisis is designed to get people’s attention and to also bring the church back to it’s first love and prepare it for what He has in mind. I think you’re article illustrates this point well and I rejoice in what God is doing via the internet in this hour. Romans 8:28. He is taking what the devil uses for evil and using it as a tool of the gospel. Our own live stream services are quite limited in scope but I’ll be adding these other ministries to my prayer focus. Hallelujah.
Thank you, Bill. And thank you for your prayers and service!
Thank You Jesus! I am a tech illiterate. But God had given me a vision many years ago of a video game to be used to bring gamers to Christ. I didn’t know what to do with this, but maybe it’s “ for such a time as this?” It is from Ezekiel 1 and the Four living creatures and the glory of God. Wherever the spirit would go they would go. At the end the free gift is the salvation through Jesus! How exciting a game would this be? Just read it and imagine the excitement and the characters and descriptions used in the book of Ezekiel! I’m obsessed with the 4 living creatures. Just a suggestion if anyone knows how to make this happen?! Praying fervently.
Thanks for sharing this!
I do pray for a video game about Elijah, what could be more exciting than that. Praying giving you power. Fantasy, our Lord, mimics your work, if it is good fantasy.
Praise you Lord for this unlooked for harvest, and thank you again for turning what Satan meant for evil into a eternal good. Praise you Jesus, may your will be done during this unprecedented time and by your name, Amen
There was definitely A LOT of action in Elijah’s life!
Several from our church go on “Community” prayer walks for an hour twice a week in neighborhoods around our church. We pray for our community, our churches, the businesses, the care homes, the people living isolated, the low income apartments, the students. Some of us pick up trash as we walk. We also do the same in our own neighborhood. Before starting our walks we pray for God’s guidance and to put people in our path that need hope or just a friendly smile. We ask people if there’s anything they would like us to pray for…and we do. God is there with us. Can you imagine what this world be like if thousands of church members did this? Be sure to maintain distance from each other to show respect to the guidelines encouraged so you don’t upset observers. Be the light!
So great to hear about these prayer-filled walks!
Romans 10:12-18 (KJV)
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.
Thank you for sharing this.
It is time for we Christians to OBEY GOD’s every command and to LIVE the Gospel.
May GOD help us today and every day to do just that!
Thank you for your encouragement and prayers, Mari.
Dear Lord please reach out to people. May there be a real quarantine revival. May people be looking for You Lord as they are on lockdown. Please give faith hope and love to those who need it most. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Thank you for praying!
