America’s Christian heritage is increasingly giving way to competing worldviews, often with the enthusiastic support of local leaders. A recent transformation in a small Virginia town illustrates not only the changing religious landscape of our nation, but also the importance of spiritual discernment as believers seek to preserve the Gospel’s influence in their communities.

A landmark building from the 1800s, the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, with deep African-American roots and founded by a former slave, stood in the tiny riverfront town of Occoquan, Virginia.
In 2021, it was sold to a small Muslim congregation. Two years later, it became Masjid Al-Hussain, the only mosque in Occoquan.
Local residents and Muslims from neighboring towns gathered as the Adhan, the Islamic call to prayer, blared from loudspeakers outside the former church for the first time. One attendee called it “really, really very historical… the first time outside of the mosque.” Another described it as “a blessing for us.”
According to the report, the public broadcast was encouraged by Occoquan Mayor Earnie Porta, who viewed the Adhan as a positive cultural experience for residents. It was sounded during Ramadan, which coincided with Passover and Good Friday that year, and local officials described the event as an opportunity to promote diversity and strengthen community relationships. Mosque leaders likewise emphasized Islam as a peaceful and compassionate religion while celebrating the occasion.
RAIR highlights the hypocrisy and irony in this. Ebenezer Baptist was born out of American slavery, founded by a man who escaped bondage. Now, however, the building is being used to house and promote a religion that does not merely permit slavery, but regulates, sanctifies, and explicitly endorses it. As RAIR notes, Muhammad owned slaves, and the Quran permits Muslim men to have unrestricted sexual access to “those whom their right hands possess.”
The story also reflects a larger trend. Across the United States, declining church attendance and aging congregations have led thousands of churches to close or sell their properties. While those buildings often become businesses, residences, or community centers, an increasing number have also been purchased by other religious groups. Each sale represents more than a real estate transaction—it marks the loss of a visible Christian presence that once proclaimed the Gospel in that community. Ebenezer isn’t the first church to be taken over by Islam, and it likely won’t be the last.
RAIR also highlights the significance of the Adhan. Though it has made headlines as a simple call to prayer, it carries deep spiritual implications. The Adhan declares that there are no gods except for Allah, that Allah is the greatest, and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. As RAIR puts it, “To outsiders, it may sound melodic. To those who understand the theology, it is a territorial and ideological marker: ‘Islam is supreme. Others are false or superseded.'”
The growing public presence of Islam in America is also a reminder that spiritual influence is never static. As churches close and Christian engagement declines, other worldviews naturally become more visible. Rather than lamenting cultural change alone, the Church should view these moments as a call to renewed evangelism, faithful discipleship, and prayer. Our hope has never rested in preserving historic buildings, but in seeing lives transformed through the saving power of Jesus Christ.
If intercessors want America’s spiritual future to look different from its present trajectory, the answer begins with the Church. Revival will not come through nostalgia for our past but through renewed faithfulness in the present. As communities become increasingly pluralistic, the Church has both an opportunity and a responsibility to stand boldly for biblical truth, lovingly confront false teaching, and proclaim that salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone.

We have to get this information out to people who are outsude of The Salvation of Jesus Christ.They are ignorant of the fact that HE is the only one who can save and THE ONLY way to enter Heaven. Praying for Christian to overcome evil that’s plaguing our way of life and religious beliefs.
Five hours ago, I read this article and wanted very much to add my two-bits.
I had five hours of errands, etc., to do until I could return to home base and
try to put in some order all that the Lord showed me. In the meantime, I told
a beautiful, godly Christian about IFA and especially the information in this article.

that I have done about witnessing to Muslims backed up what he said.

They respect knowledge and convictions. I believe we are called to preach the Gospel
to the very ends of the earth. God has not put up “Do Not Enter” signs at any spot that
might be difficult, instead Jesus said, “Lo I Am with you always” Translation: We (Me and My Father
and the mighty Holy Spirit (Who loves His job!!!) will be with you). I am persuaded beyond
doubt that every IFA person wants to do the will of God. There is a book that I have had for
some time and try to study about this subject often. I think it would be easier in a group.

The first edition was in 1979 and my edition which I received at a church Bible Study over
10 years ago. was printed in 2006. In the very first page it says the areas that Muslims took
over in the formerly Christian areas were due to the fact that the Christians were WEAK and
DIVIDED. I hope it is still available, but I will let the reader determine that.
It is my conviction that we suffer from a lot of extraneous things currently. I think we need to
concentrate on the Word and the Will of God FIRST. When we boil it all down to the bottom line,
it is nothing more than the lying devil who’s MO is Steal; Lie; Kill. We have authority over the evil;
no matter in what form it comes. Evil will succeed if we do not stand on the authority that Jesus
gave us in His Name. If we are fearful and only focus on the evil wherever it comes at us, we forfeit
time for praise and put fear as our substitute “God”.
God laughs at the wicked; He knows the end before anyone else.
We can trust God. He is faithful!
Lord we thank You and praise You that You are faithful; All Your paths are mercy and steadfast love.

Revival will only come if there’s a deep spiritual need and it must meant deeply. As for Islam it’s like a spiritual cancer, they may preach ace but the Quran implies that all must convert. They treat women like chattels, they bred arrogance and think themselves to be better than the rest of humanity, and there is their laws that are diametrically opposite to ours.
That is why Islam is steadily haemorrhaging millions of followers as they hear the word of truth and have encounters with the living God.
So don’t be discouraged- the USA laws allow you to freely evangelise and pray for people in public. backed up with prayer. So don’t hesitate. I pray those Muslims are caught up in a local revival!

I live quite near Occoquan (some 7 miles) and have noticed the mosque there for some months. I didn’t realize that they were using the call to prayer. This requires serious prayer. I will try to bring a few from my church together to
pray “on site with insight” without disturbing those who attend the mosque. or the community. This is becoming more serious everywhere. I read that 90% of Muslims vote while only 25% of Christians do. I like Mary Canfijn prayer!!
Oh LORD of heaven and earth! The Triune God! To You we call. This land is Your land! Thank you for this explanation. Some of us are not well informed of the Muslim ideology or the practices that are contrary to the Christian faith. I have done quite a bit of reading on sharia law and am concerned that it is creeping into the American way of life. The push for “diversity” has made this more acceptable when it should be unacceptable.

Believers–followers of Jesus–are today’s Paul Reveres, desperately issuing the warning of the spiritual battle at hand. Islam is theologically antithetical to the Word of God although it has co-opted significant portions that work for the Muslim politically.
“Islam is a peaceful and compassionate religion” is the face put forward…until a Muslim majority is achieved. Thereafter, Sharia law is implemented and US constitutional law becomes secondary.
But there is a positive lining. Muslims do have a God-centric view of life and therefore do not reject the reality of the spiritual world outright as the secular American does. That’s the good news–a possibility exists for the gospel to prevail.
Lord, lift up more Paul Reveres for our age to alert our people to the spiritual battle we are in. Open the eyes of our people to see and understand the threat in front of us and the opportunity we have. Give us courage to speak the Word of God out loud, everywhere. I find it easier to talk to a non-believer of a supreme being than a Muslim. The non-believer is searching to find a “filler” for his hole in his heart. The Muslims think they have already found that and are emphatic about it.

While there are cries for diversity here in the US, Muslims have been slowly and deceptively moving into the states within the United States to set up communities, businesses, and mosques in their quest to win others over to their false cult and teachings. They have been targeting college campuses and our youth. Here in Texas they have built a large Muslim community with a mosque. This year (2026), on the ballot was a vote for sharia law. Why was it even on the ballot of a Christian nation. Lord help your people to get established in the New Covenant. Over and over you exhorted Israelites “do not fear the gods” but rather “remember my Covenant.” 2 Kings 17.38. King David called Goliath an uncircumcised Phillistine, showing that he was thinking of Covenant in that crucial battle. Since the New Covenant is with Israel we must support the restoration of Israel. Jeremiah 31.31-40.I personally believe that tithing and giving causes us to be established in Covenant. Abraham tithed to Melchizedek and then God established Covenant with him. Tithing is an Eternal Principle. Yeshua receives tithes in the Eternal realm. Hebrews 7.8. I personally believe if Christian Churches and Ministries would start tithing to Messianic Ministries in Israel and start being faithful to the New Covenant, we would gain the Spiritual authority to subdue the “gods” of Islam and Communism. Sadly, a huge majority of the Christians in America don’t tithe to anything, let alone the restoration of Israel. We must submit to God if we’re going to successfully resist the devil. I pray God raises an overcoming band of blood Covenant warriors to come forth and lead America to Victory over the hordes of hell. Thankfully it only takes a remnant of the Called, Chosen, and FAITHFUL. Revelation 17.14.

I’m former military, and on my third deployment to Afghanistan I was asked by a group of Muslim leaders if I had ever considered converting to Islam.
In that moment Holy Spirit gave me a pertinent answer.
I replied no; that our Grave is empty and yours is occupied. Moreover, you are 600 years too late and have been copying everything that Yahweh and His Ecclesia already established. For instance, your mosque is our church, your minaret is our church steeple, your mihrab is our pulpit, and your ablution pool is our baptismal.
Then, there is the issue of prayer; you are taught to pray in public five times daily but we are commanded to pray without ceasing in secret.
There is more, I said, but I’ll stop there.
You could hear a pin drop.
Then, the most senior Muslim leader declared that I was an Infidel – but that because of my knowledge and convictions no offense was taken and an allowance was made; so Infidel was to be spelled with a small I (‘infidel’) and I was recognized as a “Person of The Book” – the Bible.
From that time I was respected.

Answer us Lord in this day of trouble, be with us when we call to you for help. Oh lord Jesus be with us, bring revival and refreshment. We thank you for the revival that is going on in college campuses and trust in the name of the Lord to save us once again. I pray this in the holy mighty name of Jesus. Amen
Lord wake us up
Lord Jesus, You are Almighty God, with the Father and the Spirit. You will not be mocked. Please show Your mighty strength to these Muslims, as well as Americans who are “asleep”—revive us, O Lord! Thank you for your saving power, to “sleeping” Americans as well as Muslims. You are ever strong, wise, loving and powerful to save to the uttermost. Thank you!
Lord God, have mercy on us. Holy Spirit, help us to boldly proclaim the Good News about Jesus, the only Way, the Truth and the Life. Help us to faithfully disciple those who have accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord and help us to pray without ceasing to God- Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
There’s a difference between being nice and being a Christian. We can be cordial and tolerant without being pushovers. it is not right to exploit Christianity in this way. America has had these boundaries and we have faced these conflicts before. We must stand firm against the incompatible ideologies. Remember that one man’s rights ends where another’s begins. This works both ways. That’s why we have established laws. For protections. With poor leadership we could lose everything. We have witnessed the public outcry of activists against US. They have clearly stated their intentions, the enemy against the Western world. for our destruction. Our leaders need us to pray for wisdom. but to do more. To stand firm with courage. Stand for America. Lord, help us.

FREEDOM OF RELIGION…so why would the other religions feel they could not project what they want??? our country was founded on the Bible and only God’s Word!!

God gave me a dream a couple of years ago showing me this would happen. In the dream we (myself and a line of others) were waiting to go into a church. I was surprised to hear the people in front of me say that they were looking forward to hear the imam speak. I said to myself “Imam?? Why would they be waiting to hear an imam speak in a church?”
God warns because he loves us and wants us to avoid this danger. He also wants us to not only pray but intercede and cry out to Him for intervention. This will not go away with passive lukewarm Christian reactions. It calls for fasting and intercession not only as an individual but in our churches/fellowships.
The church promoted traditions and policies over true Biblical Marriage. Is it any wonder they continue to shrink, even as young men at least are looking? Problem is, they’re not liking what they find and aren’t marrying who they find. That result is no children, and no growth.
No wonder Islam is overtaking christianity!
wait until the Adhan is broadcast 5 times a day. Any non-Muslim who supported this might have a change of heart even if they never admit to it. I do have hope for the American church though. A lot of young men today are standing for and looking for Truth. When God gets ahold of them, watch out. Twelve men fired up by their encounter with Truth turned the world upside down
Unfortunately instead of admitting they were wrong to allow this church to be overtaken, they will just move. And then Islam has conquered more of America. Wake up before it it too late!!
Amen! I appreciated that reminder of how 12 men turned the world upside down, inside out for the one true God! Jesus is God and Lord—may we hear His voice, roll up our proverbial sleeves and do His bidding.
We must WAKE UP for the hour is LATE Lord and STAND in Prayer against this Evil .This is America founded on Your Word .Christian Values. I pray for those in Leadership to have blind eyes open and hearts to turn to TRUTH. For there is ONLY One God. and DECLARE JESUS IS LORD OVER ALL!!..
I live right down the street from this building, they’re taking over our whole neighborhood! The neighborhood is no longer comprised of American families and I only bought my house in 2016. In 10 years there’s maybe five American families left in my neighborhood because the Muslims have moved in.
That is the big worry! Instead of Christian’s staying and fighting, they will move out and let Islam take a stronger hold.
