EPA Refers Biden-Era Green Grants for Criminal Investigation
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin says his agency has uncovered what he describes as a massive network of political favoritism and waste involving billions of dollars in Biden-era green energy grants. The allegations have led to criminal referrals, ongoing litigation, and a growing debate over how taxpayer funds were distributed through federal climate programs.
Have you taken your place on the wall?
From Just the News:
Zeldin said he has canceled or stopped about $29 billion in EPA grants – including one for $2 billion to a nonprofit tied to longtime Georgia Democrat election activist and failed gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams – after unmasking a series of pass-through groups used to route taxpayer monies to the politically connected.
…
Zeldin said some of the allegations have their roots in legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act, when Congress and the White House were all in Democrat hands. “They included all of this funding in this so-called Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. And then they would work with these different agencies of the Biden administration to get it out to their unqualified friends. The whole thing just feels criminal,” he said. “[…] This is clearly something that falls into the category of blatant waste and abuse.”
…
Zeldin’s quest for accountability began in spring 2025 when his agency revealed that Biden rushed out $20 billion in the greenhouse gas reduction fund to be held in an account by the New York-based Citibank, with just eight nonprofits having the right to spend it.
The controversy centers on the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, a program created under the Inflation Reduction Act to finance projects intended to reduce carbon emissions and expand access to clean energy technologies. While supporters argued the program would help communities adopt energy-efficient technologies, critics have questioned both the speed at which funds were distributed and the organizations selected to receive them.
Among the most scrutinized awards is a $2 billion grant to Power Forward Communities, an organization linked to former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams. The grant drew attention after reports revealed the nonprofit had reported only a small amount of revenue prior to receiving the award. Abrams and others associated with the program have strongly denied wrongdoing, arguing the funding was intended to help lower energy costs for American families through residential energy upgrades.
According to the EPA, several additional grants have also raised concerns. Agency officials have pointed to alleged conflicts of interest involving former government officials and advisory board members who participated in or benefited from funding decisions. These concerns have prompted referrals to both the EPA Inspector General and the Department of Justice for further review.
The legal battle is far from over. Although the EPA has moved to cancel roughly $20 billion in grants, federal courts are currently weighing challenges to those actions. A three-judge appeals panel recently sided with the agency, but the broader case remains under review and could ultimately be decided by the Supreme Court.
These allegations are a reminder that government stewardship matters. Scripture teaches that those entrusted with authority should act with integrity and accountability. Whether these accusations ultimately result in criminal prosecutions or not, let’s pray for truth to be uncovered, for justice to prevail, and for taxpayer resources to be handled responsibly.
