I Prayed have prayed
Our Father, we pray that Your will be done in Iowa.

The 2024 Iowa caucuses kick off yet another presidential election cycle. Six states have caucuses, in which voters gather to discuss and then vote for candidates. The rest of the states have primaries, which are elections with ballots, run by state governments. There are variations, as each state has its own election rules and laws, but both caucuses and primaries have a direct influence on the delegates sent to the political party conventions.

A pig for President

Iowa’s caucuses date back to the 1800s. They didn’t gain national attention, however, until the nomination of a pig named Pigasus the Immortal just before the opening of the 1968 Democratic National Convention, in Chicago.

Yes, that’s right, the Youth International Party, led by Abbie Hoffman, nominated Pigasus (a play on Greek mythology’s winged horse Pegasus) as its presidential candidate. These Yippies (as the group came to be called informally, from the acronym YIP) were notorious for political demonstrations heavy on such theatrics.

But any humorous point the Yippies were making was sadly marred by the anti–Vietnam War and civil-rights riots that soon broke out in Grant Park — resulting in violent skirmishes, injuries, and the arrests of some 650 protesters. This led to significant changes in political party rules, nomination processes, transparency, and more.

Iowa sets the stage

Since 1976, the Iowa caucus has been held before all other caucuses and primaries. It is a key event to create interest and momentum for candidates of both parties.

Election hype

Many of us are deeply concerned about our nation, and we might experience daily anxiety as we watch the news or read opinion pieces predicting that this election will be the last one for our “democracy” (though what we really are is a republic). If this candidate wins, we’re told, he’ll use the government against us; if that one wins, he will be a dictator.

With the 2024 Iowa caucuses now upon us, the Lord has directed me to a passage familiar to all of us: Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts (Psalm 139:23 NIV). This passage of scripture helps us know what to do in times like these.

God has an antidote to anxiety

Psalm 139:17 reminds us that one antidote to our anxiety is to consider: How precious to me are your thoughts, God! … (NIV). When we start feeling anxiety over the condition of our nation, we can pause and ask God what He thinks.

We can trust God to act

Psalm 139:19 says: If only you, God, would slay the wicked! … (NIV). It’s easy to become frustrated with what looks like a two-tiered justice system in our country, the constant demonization of biblical values, and the endless graspings for power. There is not one person, one group, or one committee that can fight and win the battle for righteousness. We must get to the same point where David was — and rely on God to frustrate the ways of the wicked.

God leads those who ask Him

Psalm 139:24 records David’s conclusion: … lead me in the way everlasting (NIV). David’s request is that God show him the path to what’s eternally true. These days of moral relativity — in which people define their own “reality” and then expect everyone else to play along — require us to ask God for guidance and direction. David did not ask for patience to sit back and endure: David asked to be led on the path of everlasting truths. History has never been impacted by someone sitting on the couch doing nothing.

Whatever point anyone may have thought they were making by ridiculously nominating a pig for president, it’s infinitesimal in impact when compared to the divine strategy given by the omnipotent Eternal One: the God of miracles as we meet Him in the Bible.

Prayer for the Iowa caucuses will make a difference

The impact of anyone willing to protest, and even to be imprisoned, for the sake of political change is a mere fraction of what men and women of Christlike faith could do if we were to ask God to move, and then followed His leading.

The Iowa caucuses remind us that we’re entering the election cycle. But they also remind us how important it is for each of us to be engaged in the process, to ensure that His “everlasting ways” are at the very center of our government’s actions.

Agree! ask God for guidance and direction. David did not ask for patience to sit back and endure: David asked to be led on the path of everlasting truths. History has never been impacted by someone sitting on the couch doing nothing. Help me Lord to do Your will.

Dave, thank you for a very encouraging article. I wish that you would write more often-, as I need the encouragement, and I couldn’t be the only one. As the focus of the subject matter of this article is about praying for The Godly- hopefully.. intentions of those involved in the Iowa caucus, and generally the state of the consciousness of us in america.. let us not forget-,even momentarily-all the work that has been done to restore election integrity.. without which, – no matter how Godly the intentions of those in political meetings.. if the vote is not soon restored to a process of functioning in honesty.. then it will not matter, as we have heard Catherine Engelbrecht say repeatedly.
Also let us not forget-,up north in the Frozen regions of the country.. another folk hero.. in my thinking, Mike Lindell. Mike has also reported great gains in his newsletter emails I receive,in recent weeks. We must not roll over and accept mail-in ballots-, or electronic machines n we must continue to stand against them. Especially in view of the fact that states up in the Great Lakes region all along the northeast corner of America seem to have not only acquiesced-, but given themselves over completely to the globalist-based thinking of what is now considered the Democrat party.. which is really the Communist Party. Lord I Thank you for brother Dave Kubal’s inspirational writing and Leadership here at IFA-, and I pray that we would not grow weary in continuing to seek you in prayer for our nation..and for our political system..and for the process of healing and guiding the hearts and Minds of legislators, – citizens, – and all who are volunteering- in all phases of this campaign cycle for president, and for all intercessors who are praying for us and for America.
In Jesus mighty name, Amen

We trust that You will bring forth candidates that will put our Country First, protect our citizens first, and will honor You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen

Thank you for sharing this Dave! I lived in Iowa 18 yrs and its a great state! Alot of wonderful god-fearing people there. I came to be engaged in the political process there and have continued doing so here in KC. Our Founders understood this is the duty of all citizens – especially those who are followers of Christ! Even the Lord Jesus was not passive to his civic duties. He paid taxes; he did not allow the will of the Father to be aborted by an unruly mob; but when legally taken before the rightful authorities of the day, He represented himself truthfully and trusted His Father for the outcome. What a wonderful Savior!

Lord, the world has gone far away from You. The enemy has deceived young adults and even youth into thinking that our country is bad, that You are not in charge and babies are disposable. Lord we pray for leaders who will represent this country in a Godly manner and we pray that the eyes ears and hearts of young adults and youth will be opened to receive You. We pray that this country will recognize that without Your wisdom, love and mercy, we will be lost.

The Iowa caucus appears to be a battle for second place given Trump’s dominance . The real question is whether either of the two Republicans who lead the pack of very distant also-rans can make it a two-person race in the long run.

Eternal Father God, we ask this day of the Iowa caucuses, that You
rebuke, bind, and cast out all evil intents, voices, and strategies on
the part of all participants, in the Name of Jesus your Son!! And we
agree with you on all this – we too, rebuke, bind, and cast out all such
evil in Jesus’s Name, praying that You totally frustrate and DESTROY
all intents and voices contrary to Your perfect plan this day – for your
Glory, AND for the sustaining of our Republic and its freedoms – from
now until You come back for us!! In Christ’s Holy Name!! Amen!!

Lord Jesus, I pray you would bring clarity of mind, common sense and a passion for righteousness to the Iowa caucus. Lord I ask you would circumvent any foul or wicked plans. That any evil doers would be in confusion and you would thwart the plans of any enemies of our free republic.
That those who long for righteousness would have favor and that your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Lord, we are so grateful for Your word to lead and guide us when the truth seems so elusive. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
Father, thank You for our Founding Fathers who trusted You and found You to be faithful. Lord, we trust You today in the midst of the chaos. We know that You are the one in control – “The government shall be on His shoulders.”
Be with those in Iowa who are going out to vote today regardless of the weather. Show forth Your wisdom and guidance. We trust You with the future of our country!

Thank you for sharing, Dave.
Those “anxious thoughts” I have seem to be a red flag that I should look to the Lord and His Word and get re-grounded. Then …, of course, intercede and engage.

Lord God Almighty, blessed be your name in all the earth. Please hear the prayers of your people. Let the Holy Spirit guide the good people of Iowa to select godly men to lead the nation. Lord we beseech you as your servant David did “Let not my enemies triumph over me”. Bring many to repentance and humility so that a great revival sweeps America and the whole earth. We are engaged in a battle for your throne, not mere flesh and blood, so surround us with your angels, let them quench the fiery darts of Satan’s army and foil all of the evil schemes of the wicked. Amen.
