Father, draw our hearts closer to Yours. Help us to use the love languages You have given us to draw us closer to You. Make us more like You.

. . .I’m sure your familiar with Dr. Gary Chapman’s take on the five love languages:

  • Affirmation
  • Acts of service
  • Quality time
  • Receiving gifts
  • Physical touch

Understanding the concept helps us strengthen our relationship with our spouse and with our children by expressing love to them in the specific ways they feel that love. . . .

Because we were created in God’s image, we each feel God’s love and presence primarily in one or two of these ways. However, God speaks all five languages fluently.

When you understand this concept, you’ll not only know how to feel closer to God, but you’ll also give your spouse the freedom to relate to God in their own love language even though you’ll likely express your love to God differently.

On our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Using Your Love Language to Grow Closer to God,” Dr. Gary Chapman is with us to describe how uniquely God relates to each of us and to share practical advice for how love languages can help you grow in your relationship with the Lord. . . .

Dr. Chapman will also explain how to learn new dialects of your love language when your usual expressions become mundane or routine, as well as how to stretch yourself and learn to speak other love languages in your relationship with God. . . .

I think that Dr Chapman’s theory of love languages has some truth and can be somewhat helpful in marriage relationships. However, I think it is overrated. I honestly believe that all of the 5 areas are important and the preference for one above the other varies throughout life and as a person matures.

Jesus told us what His love language is in John 14:15: If you love Me, keep my commandments. (obedience)

God’s love language is whatever he knows we need it to be!

My love language is Quality time. I so desperately need time with my Savior!
He yearns to affirm us that we are His beloved, touch us with His transformation power, bestow His gifts of salvation and grace on us, He wants to spend time with us to reveal His love and beauty, and He wants to serve us with His promises to resurrect us and give us eternal life.
Let us reflect Him to others and learn the deep needs of others so we can show a portion of the breadth, width, height and depth of our Triune God.
For Jesus’ sake, Amen

This is wonderful, Gary. Your
first book The 5 Love Languages saved our marriage! we had no clue how to communicate w eachother until my pastor and the Wengerts highly recommended we take this class and apply these principles to our lives. We just celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary. I love my husband more today than yesterday but not as much as tomorrow, thanks to Jesus, you, my pastor, the Wengerts, and all the married couples in that class who taught us how to identify and walk in our spouses’ and God’s love languages.

    Faith Triumphs in Trouble

1Therefore, having been justified by faith, [a]we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces [b]perseverance; 4and perseverance, [c]character; and character, hope. 5Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

I loved you before time and space
I love you with eternal grace
you’re My beloved, who I adore.
and when your days are done…no more,
you’ll stand alone before My throne
and hear these words, “welcome home.”
until then, tend your love for Me,
I love you now and throughout eternity.
