Seven decades ago, President Harry S. Truman signed a bill proclaiming a National Day of Prayer into law, making America the first nation in the world to celebrate such a day yearly. Yesterday, Ukraine became the second.

We have covered the push for a Ukrainian National Day of Prayer since December, when IFA President/CEO Dave Kubal first went to the war-torn nation to advocate for a bill establishing this day. Now, two months later, his and many others’ efforts have paid off. On February 12, Ukraine’s parliament, known as the Verkhovna Rada, voted to establish a National Day of Prayer on February 24, the day on which Russia initially attacked Ukraine in 2022.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted Resolution No. 12412 on the introduction of a National Day of Prayer in Ukraine, which will be celebrated annually on February 24. On this day, the parliament will begin its session with the performance of the spiritual anthem of Ukraine “Bozhe velykyi, yedynyi”.
MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported that 255 MPs voted “FOR”.
“Bozhe velykyi, yedynyi” roughly translates to “Lord, of the Great and Almighty,” according to Wikipedia.
This is an answer to our prayers! We pray that many more nations would follow Ukraine and America’s lead in establishing a National Day of Prayer!

We rejoice, Lord!! May this step of faith in Ukraine’s governance result in evident blessing for the nation.
