Trump Signals Major Cuba Action After Raul Castro Indictment
As the Trump administration intensifies pressure on Cuba’s communist regime, President Donald Trump is signaling that major action against the island nation could soon be coming. The comments follow the unprecedented U.S. indictment of former Cuban dictator Raúl Castro and several military officials over the deadly 1996 shootdown of civilian aircraft operated by an anti-communist humanitarian group.

From The Epoch Times:
President Donald Trump indicated on May 21 that he planned to intervene in Cuba following the indictment of former communist revolutionary leader Raúl Castro as the United States continues to put economic pressure on the Cuban regime.
Trump said the Caribbean nation was a “failed country” when taking questions during a press conference at the Oval Office.
“Other presidents have looked at this for 50, 60 years doing something, and it looks like I’ll be the one that does it,” Trump said.
Castro, 94, the younger brother of longtime communist dictator Fidel Castro, was indicted on murder charges in the United States on May 20. Castro is accused of crimes related to Cuba’s shooting down of two unarmed civilian planes conducting a humanitarian mission rescuing Cubans fleeing the regime in 1996. The shootdown killed three U.S. citizens and one lawful resident.
The indictments mark one of the most significant legal actions ever taken by the United States against senior Cuban communist officials. Prosecutors allege that Cuban military personnel acted under the authority of the Castro regime when they destroyed the civilian aircraft operated by Brothers to the Rescue, a humanitarian organization that sought to assist Cubans attempting to flee oppression on the island.
At the same time, the Trump administration has dramatically increased economic and diplomatic pressure on Havana. Since January, oil shipments to Cuba have been severely restricted, worsening fuel shortages and economic instability across the island nation. The administration has also imposed new sanctions targeting Cuban government agencies and military-linked business networks accused of supporting repression and threatening U.S. national security.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, whose family fled Cuba before the communist revolution, emphasized that the United States prefers a peaceful diplomatic solution but warned that President Trump has an obligation to confront threats to American security. Rubio also announced the arrest of a Cuban regime-linked official living in Florida while allegedly assisting Havana’s communist apparatus.
Meanwhile, the arrival of the USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group in the Caribbean has fueled speculation about potential future actions by the United States. While no military operation has been announced, the growing combination of sanctions, legal action, and military presence represents one of the strongest American responses toward Cuba in decades.
Here in America, however, Democrats are already moving to stop the President’s plans before they’ve even began. Senators Tim Kaine, Adam Schiff, and Ruben Gallego reportedly introduced a war powers resolution that would stop President Trump from carrying out any sort of attack against Cuba.
This moment is a reminder to pray for the Cuban people, many of whom have suffered for generations under authoritarian rule, poverty, censorship, and persecution. Let’s also pray for wisdom and restraint among world leaders as tensions continue escalating close to America’s shores.
Please join us in praying for freedom, peace, and truth to prevail in Cuba.
