Trump Changes DOD to ‘Department of War’
Yesterday, President Trump signed an executive order to rename the Department of Defense to the Department of War, a move designed to project strength and honor America’s history.
Pray for your fellow intercessor.
From AP News:
President Donald Trump signed an executive order Friday aiming to rebrand the Department of Defense as the Department of War — a long-telegraphed move aimed at projecting American military toughness around the globe.
“It’s a much more appropriate name, especially in light of where the world is right now,” Trump said. He said the previous name was “woke.”
The order comes as some of Trump’s closest supporters on Capitol Hill proposed legislation that would codify the new name into law, with Congress having the sole power to establish, shutter and rename federal departments. Absent a change in law, Trump will authorize the Pentagon to use secondary titles.
In addition to projecting strength in an increasingly chaotic world, this renaming also honors the history of the department. Florida Representative Greg Steube highlighted in a statement that the department was initially called the Department of War, retaining that name until the end of World War II,
AP also notes that this order is not entirely official and could be easily undone later, as President Trump does not have the authority to rename departments. However, Senators Rick Scott and Mike Lee are reportedly introducing companion legislation designed to make the name change permanent.
Since Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth took office, he and President Trump have worked overtime to strengthen the military and restore lethality. This name change is only the latest in a long list of actions. Secretary Hegseth confirmed as much speaking alongside the President, reminding Americans that the United States hasn’t won a major war since the change. “We’re going to go on offense, not just on defense,” he said.
This new name change represents the beginning of a new era in our nation’s armed forces. Let’s ask God to continue to bless and strengthen our military!

Might be better to stay with ‘defense’ as America has a dubious history with war. The 1812 war was indecisive, in the Great War (1914-1918) the US arrived late, in 1917, poorly trained and proved an embarrassment to the armies that had years of experience. It did however, as wanted, give the US a seat at the peace conference.
In World War II (1939-1945) the US arrived late in 1942 and proved again an embarrassment in say Papua where the American forces broke and ran. That war was won for the Allies by the forces of the USSR who took the major casualties and did the heavy lifting.
In Korea 1950-53 it was a draw – one not yet settled.
In Vietnam it was a humiliating defeat.
In Iraq war was waged to destroy weapons of mass destruction which did not exist.
In Afghanistan another humiliating defeat.
Keep out of war if you have no aptitude for it. Blessed are the peacemakers.
It is really really sick that those who claim to follow the prince of peace support this. Really sick:
Today the social media account of President Donald J. Trump posted an AI-generated image of Trump as if he were Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore from the 1979 film Apocalypse Now in front of the Chicago skyline with military helicopters and flames and the caption “Chipocalypse Now.” Kilgore loved the war in Vietnam in which he was engaged; his most famous line was “I love the smell of napalm in the morning.”
Over the image, Trump’s social media post read: “‘I love the smell of deportations in the morning…’ Chicago about to find out why it’s called the Department of WAR.” The words were followed by three helicopter emojis, symbols the right wing uses to represent former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet’s goons’ disappearing political opponents by pushing them out of helicopters.
Although it has become trite to speculate about what Republicans would say if a Democratic president engaged in the behavior Trump exhibits daily, this open attack of the president on an American city is a new level of unhinged. Mehdi Hasan of Zeteo wrote: “The president of the United States just declared war, actual military war, not a metaphorical one, on a major American city, and one governed by his political opponents.” He added, accurately: “In any other period, this would be impeachment-worthy.”
Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker called attention to the gravity of Trump’s post: “The President of the United States is threatening to go to war with an American city. This is not a joke. This is not normal. Donald Trump isn’t a strongman, he’s a scared man. Illinois won’t be intimidated by a wannabe dictator.” Under the words “Know your rights, Illinois,” and “Stay safe and stay informed,” the governor’s social media account posted information about Americans’ rights in both English and Spanish.
Trump’s threats against American citizens are outrageous, but they also feel desperate. Trump’s popularity is tanking, the economy is faltering, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is facing a chorus of calls to resign or be fired, and the American people are taking to the streets. Thousands of people turned out today in Washington, D.C., for the “We Are All D.C.” march to protest the presence of troops in the city, and in Chicago for the “Chicago Says No Trump No Troops” protest. The protests are notable for the seas of signs the peaceful protesters carry.
LOVE IT
Since the days of John The Baptist, The Kingdom of God allows violence and the violent take it by force.
Remember the Lord is also the Lord of war against the weakness against that devil schemes we are to stand. The name is for us to wake us up. They’re so many traitors and spies, and the en is among us even there’s always been war against the Lord’s plan from the wicked and from those who hate God, we always have to be ready and prepared with a full armor of God that means war!!!
the name is for people to wake us.
We always been at war you’re kidding yourself to think that theire is no war…is We always been at war you kidding yourself to think that there’s no war there’s always been a war until Jesus is coming and taking over!!
The full arm of God also contains the sword in the physical life. We also have to fight.
This is also prophetic we entering the violent times. It’s scary.
The piece we had was false peace. The enemy was putting us to sleep.
The Lord is waking us up God help us.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙁✝️🛐
I pray for our armed forces that they will be saved and strong and the devil will not infiltrate our forces and cause us to lose battles. I bind the vaccine mandates that are still being practiced in our armed forces in particular covid that kills our youth. I loose life and peace over our nation and its service members. In Jesus name I pray.Amen
Those who only concern themselves with self-defense, eventually find themselves isolated and unable to withstand the constant onslaught of forces who will align with others to accomplish evil agendas. It is a weak and selfish attempt at self-preservation, which eventually leads to their destruction, instead. We are at war, so why not accept that, and wage it wisely?
‘This is nice, but really, what’s the REAL difference? We need our president and Sec. of State and Sec of Defense to work overtime to build our military and make our defenses strong. The previous Administration was asleep at the wheel. No wonder the Commies think that they can overtake us .Lord Jesus, I pray, that in these End Times, that Your will be done in every event that occurs on this earth. Thank You Jesus.
Given all the things we are facing, changing department names hardly seems important and our time could be better spent elsewhere. I realize projecting a certain image and posturing is part of the world we live in and we need to consider that aspect, but it just doesn’t feel like a wise use of time. I’m all for peace through strength, but this just seems goofy.
Lord, I pray for divine wisdom for President Trump and all people in government positions. We need YOUR wisdom, Lord, and not human wisdom to guide the affairs of men. And Lord, we thank you for divinely inspiring our Foudning Fathers to design a constitution based on the foundational principles of Your Word, with a system of checks and balances for all 3 branches of government. Father God, right now, all 3 of our branches of government have gotten off track and we pray that You would bring all three branches of government back into alignment. We plead this in Jesus’ name, amen.
Yaweh Sabaoth, will we recognize YOU when YOU return?
Heavenly Father, Defender, Our Shield, help us to have eyes to see and ears to hear! The earth is trembling as we near Your return. Please help us not to look for a meek shepherd and miss you.
Your ways are not our ways! They’re higher and altogether perfect!
Help us to reflect the agenda of Heaven against Your enemies on earth 🌎!
Hallelujah!
Sadly, renaming the Defense Department is meaningless. According to Air Force four-star Gen. Mark Kelly, “We’re facing an apex adversary now, today.” However, the Air Force is “doing so with half the combat power that we had 35 to 40 years ago.” The fleet, Gen. Kelly added, is “twice as old and operating at twice the op [operational] tempo, flown by aviators getting half the training sorties, at half the platform readiness rates.”
We have missed opportunity after opportunity under different presidents, including Trump, to turn this around. We even had an opportunity to sightly improve our readiness at the beginning of this term. The U.S. spent 16.9% of its economy on defense in 1952 during the Korean War and more than 8% during Vietnam, the budget Trump passed allows for only 3%. I mentioned it on this site BEFORE it was passed. That and his appointment of a journalist to lead Defense has caused us to loose that small chance to improve the situation.
Thus far, a decision has been made to send men and women for four years of ‘training’ for ship building. to other countries. The Chinese have said they intend to move on Taiwan in little more than a year. For the skills necessary to build complicated ships, you need experience, lots of experience. It seems to me that some of that effort should go into recruiting experience to come here and for expanding our own ship building capability. We need good leadership!
God have mercy on us!
Huntington Ingalls Industries is our largest ship building company in America. They have been awarded contracts for software development for TRAINING this year, if that gives you some idea of how little progress we have made.
Some believe that we can make one bad decision after another, year upon year, and God is going to step in and help us avoid the consequences for our bad decisions.
I have been posting a warning on this site for perhaps two years now?
The United States is retiring 19 Navy ships this year alone.
Most people on this site will completely ignore you but thank you for posting and making some of these things clear.
“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.” (Psalm 20:7)
One nation under God? I wonder. We have misplaced faith.
WE are praising men and weapons, not God.
Forgive US Father. In the Mighty Name of Jesus. Amen.
Jesus our Christ is also called The Prince of Peace. He commands us NOT to war against flesh & blood (people) but against the devil / satan & the demons / angels (messengers) that are spiritual “powers of evil” (Rev 12).
When the Jewish (“descendants of Abraham”) church leaders (accompanied by Roman soldiers) came to arrest (& kill) Jesus; His true followers said “Lord, shall we strike with a sword? (implement the Department of War?) And one of them (Peter) struck the servant of the high priest (chief Jewish church leader) & cut off his right ear”
“But Jesus answered & said (His teaching regarding the Department of War): Permit even this & He (God on earth) touched the ear & healed him” Luke 22: 49-51
You are misapplying Scripture – this was spoken to his disciples, and spoken in a specific situation – his arrest and crucifixion. Resistance would have been resistance to God’s plan. His instruction to governments differs – they are to wield the sword.
To quote another: ‘ War is without question, the negation of all Christ taught and meant, and yet, as is bitter irony, there are professedly Christian men who defend it as their forefathers defended slavery. ‘ Is it no wonder that the church has lost moral leadership.
An examination of Ephesians 6 shows clearly that the Christian armour is for defense – not attack.
The Department of Defense is more appropriate.
Father, we thank You that the President, Secretary of Defense & Congressional leaders have the courage to publicly declare the United States is no longer “on the defense”, but is now officially ON THE OFFENSE against all enemies of our nation & You! We stand in agreement with them & Your Word – that no weapon formed against the United States of America shall prosper – because we ARE ONE NATION UNDER THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY!!!! Amen!
