A Minneapolis neighborhood, which lies in controversial Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar’s district, will begin broadcasting the Muslim call to prayer five times a day over outdoor loudspeakers throughout the month of Ramadan, reports say.
The move is “believed to be the first publicly-broadcast call to prayer in a major US city,” al Jazeera English said in a post on Twitter.
The simple, short call – known as the adhan – marked an historical moment for Minneapolis and major cities across the United States, community members said. While the adhan is commonly broadcast throughout the Middle East, North Africa and other places, for many Muslims in the US, it is only heard inside mosques or community centres.
“There’s definitely a lot of excitement,” said Imam Abdisalam Adam, who is on the board of the Dar al-Hijrah mosque, from where the adhan will be broadcast.
“Some people see it as historic,” Adam told Al Jazeera. “To the point … that they’re not doing it, able to see it in their lifetime.”
The city granted a noise permit for the prayer.
“Tonight’s historic call to prayer in Minneapolis will bring comfort and remind the faithful and the neighborhood that as we are physically distant we can still be connected to our faith and mosque,” Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) Executive Director Jaylani Hussein said in a statement.
“The call to prayer is being issued via an amplified public address system on the rooftop of the Dar Al-Hijrah Mosque in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood,” Biz Pac Review reported. “According to the Sahan Journal, the P.A. system and technical support necessary for the community-wide vocal calls were provided by First Avenue (a famous nightclub and music venue that became a national landmark of sorts after Prince used it as a location for several scenes in the movie “Purple Rain”). The city of Minneapolis issued a noise permit for the calls to prayer that start at sunrise and end at sunset.”
Cedar-Riverside is a neighborhood that in recent years has become one of the most densely populated areas of Islamic immigrants in the country, principally coming from Somalia and Ethiopia. It was in that neighborhood that two years ago, a group of Muslims was reported to be patrolling the area, confronting people who were not following tenets of Sharia law.
Locals have for years called the area “Little Mogadishu” and it is known to have been a recruiting ground for Islamic terrorists.
Some residents were not happy.

This action is unconstitutional! Our Constitution was built on Christianity! Christianity is not a religion like Islam, but rather on a personal relationship with Jesus, the Son of God! Everyone needs Jesus to get to heaven. No one comes to the Father except through Jesus! (John 14:6) That is why our forefathers framed the Constitution as such. There was to be no religion to take over the state. That is my understanding of the separation of church and state.
This a sign of something much more than a prayer call. Christians are ostracized and persecuted and here this city allow for a noise permit? This is a dangerous precedent that is being set and Im praying those in authority will have an understanding that this is an attempt to gain spiritual authority over the land. The church needs to rise up and stand against this with a righteous indignation.
Father, in the name of Jesus, we pray that the voice of the enemy will be silenced. We pray that as the call to prayer is heard, that believers in the only Son of God, Jesus Christ, will hit their knees and call out to You, the Most High God, interceding for this group of people for conviction of sin, desire for truth, freedom from bondage, and for salvation with eternal life in You.

We ask as Your people, that You hear our prayers of repentance for our country. We have ignored Your word and the principles we are to live by, inviting the cursings you spoke of in Deuteronomy when we rebel. We have among other things allowed the killing of your precious children, watch as laws are enacted that fly in the face of Your commandments, watched as messages are produced through our media that corrupt and lead people into lifestyles that are an abomination and keep them from the truth. We repent now of not diligently coming before Your throne on behalf of those who are not saved. We take the authority we have been given against the onslaught of the enemy on our country and those who live in it. We pray to You as the LORD of hosts to wage spiritual warfare in the heavenlies against the plans and actions of the enemy. May you find us filling the gap through prayer that You have called us to. We look expectantly for Your intervention in our tragedies. We ask for You to raise godly people to rule over us and enact laws that bring peace and safety to our lives. We ask for a revival and awakening of unprecedented proportions in our country and the nations. Defeat our enemy and bring a mighty harvest of souls. May we be part of the victory that You will bring. Stir our hearts and those of all believers to take up the armor of God and fight this spiritual war. Let us not be weary in well doing but be the salt and light that is so desperately needed in these last days.

They should not be able to have religious freedom when churches are not able to meet publically there is a double standard. As Americans, we need to stand up for our constitutional rights. Moslems want us to give them everything they ask for in freely practicing their religion. I KNOW if we were in their country Christianity and living by our religious convictions WOULD NOT BE TOLERATED! The goal of Islam is to take over our country and make us convert or pay, according to sharia law.
How about the Churches in the area stand on the street corners and having prayer (even silent prayer). God hears. We “Christians must start counteracting these types of prejudical “government” behavior. How can they arrest you and not arrest the guy who is impinging on the space of others via airways – freedoms? If the City allows this, lots of Churches start having parking lot services; create a plan and band together. Stand in your front yard and pray for God to work in these situations, for his Spirit to rule over all. People of America, we must start standing up and we must start calling on God for his Spirit to be working everywhere.
These types of decisions are infringements of Constitutional rights. This is the kind of actions of Socialism/Communism and right out of the essence and power of “Rules for Radicals” Stand Up America – in your front yard, on your street, in your town – IN YOUR CHURCH. I feel this is very unfair, as Christians all over the United States, we are unable to pray in public, abortion clinics, some universities, standing on a street corner, even wearing crosses in some places like in California universities so I highly think it is unfair that they get to express their religion openly for everyone to hear, and others like us Christians can’t..
If I lived in Minneapolis I hope I would have the courage to ask my local church to apply for a noise permit to broadcast scripture 5 times a day during Easter Holy Week 2021.

This is NOT the first time in America. The call to prayer by loudspeaker was heard starting in the 1980s in Dearborn, Michigan in the area known as Little Arabia. Hamtramck, Michigan also had prayers being broadcast before we left MI in the mid-80s.
As the home of Ford World Headquarters, Dearborn is not an insignificant city. Metro Detroit was home to over 300,000 Arab Muslims in the 80’s.
Ilhan Omar’s district may have joined the movement of Islam’s growing influence, but CAIR and Al Jazeera are not correct to call this historic.
It is good that Christians are concerned!
Christians should implement a prayer call every day though out the United States and made it a point to pray
with a voice to be heard, a cry from our heart to God’s for His Kingdom to come on earth as it is in Heaven.

Well, honestly, this development upsets me. This call to prayer to a false god disrupts the atmosphere and people’s minds. It is such an offense to the True God that His people have let their guard down and allowed this blasphemy into their cities. It is an obvious sign of the advance of demonic influence in a community and will result in more negative consequences.
I agree, but I think we need to employ spiritual weapons against the forces that seek to hijack our Godly heritage and prevent Christians from living the principles of the one True God Jesus Christ. They are infiltrating slowly and surely while our eyes are on other concerns. We must be agressively praying and pleading for God’s mercy, forgiveness, our repentance as a nation and His deliverance. Social activism is good, but we have powerful weapons of warfare before the throne of God.

I am aghast at this new development. While Christians are being confronted in all areas & are constantly being told our symbols & practices violate the separation of church state, which is not what the Constitution says, and are now told we cannot worship our God even when social distancing practices are followed, this public Islamic call to prayer that denies the GOD upon whom this nation was founded, is a step too far & should not be allowed!

God have mercy on us! This is a clear reminder that America has become hostile to the gospel of Jesus Christ. That our government allows the public display of Islam while condemning even public, historically appropriate Christian Cross’s. But then the Bible says that the “Truth” would be an offense to those who are dying. Then the dichotomy of resisting public displays of Christianity while criticizing our President for not being a “perfect” Christian is very distressing. We are a nation of two minds. Again, God, please, have mercy on this Nation.

Equal public prayer & praise time should be given unto Jesus Christ. Wrong only Islamic prayers be allowed. This nation was founded through many prayers unto Jesus, Lord and God. Your word says, “If I be lifted up, I will draw all men unto me.”

You are right, Pastor Karen and Obama did so many things under the radar and there are still too many Christians that believe he is a Christian, or maybe they just WANT to believe that he is. His actions sure don’t support that. Shining the LGBTQ lights on the White House after that vote, is a glaring example that comes to mind. It’s like he opened the flood gates for the LGBTQs.
Is IFA the group that brought attention to Christian military men being pressured to quit their service. I read something about that several years ago.
During his terms in office the Military Chaplains were not allowed to perform their duties or witness Christ. My husband is also a pastor and ex-Navy and knows much more about this than I do. He did open the doors wide to the LGBTQ’s and we are all still paying
as they have gone full out to get Christians. They also allowed Muslim US Military to wear their own hat fashioned after other
Muslim Countries Military. I can’t remember if it has a specific name, but they allow them to wear it in public, and it changed the military dress code.

WA State governor Inslee approved Comprehensive Sex Education into law to force it on all public school students include kingdergarten up to 12th grade, Pray for us trying to gather 170.000 signatures to put Ref 90 onto ballot. and he the govenor extends the shut down so we can’t gather signatures. Church bells used to ring on Sunday in the city. Minneapolis is where I lived then. They were outlawed all over the country by complaints from people who weren’t believers. Now is the time for the churches in Minneapolis to ask for the right to ring the bells again on Sunday. It’s a beautiful sound.
This is a Christian Country!!! We need to start a church bells all over America 5 times a day to drown out their thing! Churches that don’t have bells should use large speakers, so every time they play that Christian churches cover it with Church Bells or Amazing Grace!
We as believers need to have the same rights. How amazing if our church worship teams got permission and did the same thing. We could declare and decree Jesus is Lord over our cities. I lived in Mpls suburbs for 41 years. I would gather a group of Spirit-filled believers and go that area at a distance and decree the Word and proclaim it and Jesus is Lord. Well Christian community. Insist on the Lords prayer John 3:16, psalms 91, psalms 23, and 2 Chron 7:14 being played over that same system daily. It’s only fair and should be legally protected. If not during Ramadan, then during one of the Jewish feasts. Equal billing of microphone time. Why heck, since their prayers are sung, let’s play “Victory in Jesus”. This is really doable if Christians are serious.

We repent of bowing to the god of political correctness and fear of man. We repent for not demanding that immigrants be assimilated into the American culture. We repent of cowardice and apathy. We pray for forgiveness, and for compassion for these people, that they would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. And we pray that the church would rise up and pray for boldness as the apostles did in Acts; that the church would ask for and receive equal treatment, and that the plots of the evil one to use islam against our nation would be brought to light and stopped. the spirit of religion is still strong in America. The hit on the towers at September 11, 2001 was a breach meant to take the nation down. after that breach, the nation has seen many many Muslim people come in to live in America. but they do not embrace freedom, nor do these folks embrace a love of the nation, it’s founders, it’s purpose (which comes out of the covenants made at the time of the Christians who came to the shores of this land and made covenant with the Living God Whose Name is I AM for the spread of the gospel of Jesus), or the history of the nation. The tenets of Islam are totally contrary to the nation of America. the man in Australia said to the Muslim folks there, it was fine to feather their nest in Australia, but if they wanted to change thins, that was not fine. and he boldly stated, move on.
People died for freedom in America. Paul Revere rode in the night to sound the alarm, “the British are coming” but we have lost sight of the Lord and His ways. we let so much slide by now. What was it Ben Franklin said when asked what kind of a government had the congress put together. “A Republic” he said, “if you can keep it.” Not a democracy, a REPUBLIC. and who is fighting now to keep that republic? it takes an ongoing vigilance in today’s world of idols and ideologies that are vying for superiority.
Some Muslims want freedom in America. Just don’t push it on others. Some want to attack America by spreading their false anti Christian beliefs. The latter ones need to go back to their own country of sharia law instead of forcing it here. Lord help me (all Christians) to share the Good News with them all. That is true freedom.

This article saddens my heart and makes me feel like I don’t live in America, a nation that was founded on Godly principles, the fear of God, and a love for His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Our love and outreach in ministry to the Muslim people and allowing their freedom of worship in our nation, does not mean that they should ever be allowed to take the LEAD in our nation to impose the Muslim religion on the American people. The United States of America is a Christian nation, regardless of what people may say. It may not always say it, or look like it, but its roots and foundation are definitely Christian. Other religions that come in to undermine it and overthrow it WILL BE overthrown, regardless of public opinion.

I come in agreement with your powerful prayer…. Who needs a loud speaker…. our God is THE LIVING GOD! We humble ourselves before you Lord…. Praise your Holy name for hearing our prayers and fighting our battles. You are our fortress and You take care of your own. Show us Glory Lord, and put our enemies to shame!
I am sure that Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, the only way to get to heaven, Jesus who died on the Cross for everyone’s SIN, gave His blood, crucified, went down to hell and took the keys away from death, Satan, and hell, is sad about this ., Probably crying, but I believe that the Holy Spirit can come and convict, and reveal the TRUTH to these people. The gospel must be allowed right after the Muslim call to prayer proclaiming that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through Him! We must demand it! Wake up, Church!
I concur. Christians it’s time to take action. Insist on equal time for the Gospel. Pray yes! Proclaiming the gospel over the intercom system, yes as well. We can actually turn this into a blessing and proclaim the Word of God loudly and proudly.

Will someone from that area please petition to have the the Apostles creed sung 5 times a day following or preceding the Ramadan prayer? This is a Chance to present the true Gospel folks. Take what the enemy has meant for evil and publically glorify the Lord out of it.

Time for the Churches to share scripture readings & prayer over a loud speaker from their churches. To me, this is the PERFECT opportunity to demand and DO public witnessing, prayer, preaching of the gospel and this could be a public case to be loosed from the oppression against Christian prayer and expression as well.
