A nonprofit promoting abortion pills in states where abortion is restricted is receiving millions of dollars from a network of major liberal foundations, donor-advised funds, and wealthy donors, according to tax documents obtained by The Daily Wire. The organization, Mayday Health, formed shortly after the leaked Supreme Court draft decision that ultimately overturned Roe v. Wade.

Mayday launched in a large part thanks to the Hopewell Fund, which is linked to one of the most infamous dark money networks in the country, Arabella Advisors. The Hopewell Fund told The Daily Wire it was Mayday’s fiscal sponsor before the abortion group broke off to become independent in 2023.

As the fiscal sponsor, the Hopewell Fund was able to process tax deductible donations for Mayday before the organization officially became its own nonprofit. Run by the former chief of staff for New York Attorney General Letitia James, the Hopewell Fund disclosed that it funneled $1,586,219 to Mayday for the fiscal year ending December 2022.

That fiscal sponsorship came when filings from Mayday showed its total revenue for its first year came in at $2,800,250.

That was only one source of Mayday’s funding. According to tax records cited by The Daily Wire, the Soros Economic Development Fund gave Mayday $150,000 in 2024, while the Ford Foundation routed $500,000 to the organization through Hopewell in 2022 and 2023. Mayday’s own 2023 filing also recorded a $250,000 Ford Foundation donation.

Other funding has flowed through donor-advised organizations that can obscure the identity of the original donor. The report says Mayday received at least $2.1 million through the Fidelity Investments Charitable Gift Fund, while abortion activist Phoebe Gates gave $100,000 through Global Impact in 2024. Additional donors listed in the report include the Surgo Foundation US, David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Educational Foundation of America, and Lisa and Douglas Goldman Fund.

What is all that money supporting? Mayday describes its mission as providing information about “reproductive health medications,” including abortion pills. Its campaigns direct women toward organizations that mail abortion pills throughout the country, including into states where abortion is restricted. Mayday promotes Abuzz, which advertises abortion-pill delivery to all 50 states, as well as At Home Abortion and Plan C. The organization also promotes groups providing or facilitating transgender-related hormones, procedures, and travel.

Mayday’s efforts have increasingly collided with pro-life states. Kentucky’s attorney general is suing the organization after it flew a banner over the state fair advertising abortion pills. Mayday has also battled Mississippi over a subpoena and South Dakota over restrictions on abortion-pill advertising. Mayday maintains that its activities amount to providing information protected by the First Amendment.

Behind the organization are founders with extensive connections to Democratic politics. Olivia “Liv” Raisner, who now goes by Leo Raisner, previously worked for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign and later served as President Joe Biden’s traveling content director before joining his White House Office of Digital Strategy. Co-founder Sam Koppelman previously wrote for former Attorney General Eric Holder, Michael Bloomberg, and Biden-Harris campaign surrogates.

For intercessors, the financial network uncovered by The Daily Wire illustrates how significant resources are being directed toward expanding access to abortion pills even in states whose laws restrict abortion. The battles over those efforts are increasingly playing out in legislatures and courts, where questions involving state abortion laws, interstate distribution, and free speech are colliding. Let’s pray for the protection of unborn life, wisdom and courage for pro-life leaders, and that efforts to circumvent laws protecting the unborn would be exposed and stopped.
