A North Carolina teachers’ union is calling for the implementation of universal health care and welfare benefits for illegal immigrants in order to reopen schools in the fall.
Just days after the Durham Association of Educators (DAE) issued a statement railing against the school district’s reopening plan, Durham Public Schools voted unanimously to hold all classes virtually for at least the first nine weeks of the school year. Included in the DAE statement was a call to adopt a variety of far-left policy goals before holding in-person classes, including Medicare for All and “direct income support regardless of immigration status.” . . .
The union’s statement also calls for a full shutdown of the state, saying “until that is done, remote learning should remain the default.”
The district did not respond to a request for comment.
The 2020-2021 school year has become a hot-button issue in recent weeks amid an aggressive push from President Donald Trump to reopen campuses. On July 8, he threatened to cut federal funding for schools that fail to reopen in the fall, sparking pushback from teachers’ unions at the local, state, and national levels.
Some health experts have emphasized the need for students to attend in-person classes moving forward. The American Academy of Pediatrics released a set of reopening guidelines in June that warned parents and policymakers of the “considerable risk of morbidity and, in some cases, mortality” associated with “lengthy time away from school.” In addition, a JAMA Pediatrics review of 18 studies found that most children who contract coronavirus “generally required supportive care only, and typically had a good prognosis and recovered within one to two weeks.” . . .
The DAE is a direct affiliate of the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE), and former DAE president Bryan Proffitt was elected NCAE vice president in April. Proffitt has decried the school-choice and charter-school movements, as well as online education.
“The privatizers are hungry right now. They’re going to push online education, they’re going to push charters, they’re going to push [the narrative] we didn’t need teachers in the first place,” Proffitt said in April. “Our side has to be willing to fight back just as hard.”
Neither DAE nor NCAE responded to requests for comment.
Durham Public Schools planned to hold in-person classes for elementary, middle, and “exceptional” high school students before the union spoke out. It cited “the need for childcare for our youngest and most vulnerable students” as “one of the reasons for choosing this approach.” The district reversed course on Thursday, however, opting for remote classes only. The decision will last for a minimum of nine weeks, meaning district leaders may permit in-person classes starting just weeks before the November election.
The DAE is not the first local union to tie school reopening’s to far-left policies. A Los Angeles teachers’ union included a call to defund police in its list of school reopening requirements.

Our Father in heaven,
Holy is Your Name. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
You are a righteous God who cannot stand evil because You Are Holy. You hate lie, cheating because You Are Truth.
Father God, we the Body of Christ asking for Your forgiveness and wisdom and discernment so that from now on we will stand on alert to keep praying and active in protecting our children, the next generation.

According to Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
For so many years the Democrat and Teachers Union (NEA) have been brainwashing our children thru education. In the Name of Jesus, we take our authority and tear down the ungodly structures of the National Education Association! Father God, we ask that their resources to dry up. Just as Jesus spoke to the nonproducing fig tree and it dried up from the roots, we speak to the resources of those who work evil in our school system and command their money, communication, and alliances to dry up from the roots.
Father God, we ask that in all school districts (grade to college) enjoy:
1. The knowledge of You to increase;
2. Prayer to You to increase
3. Academic to increase
4. Violence to decrease and
5. Bold young Daniel to stand up and share the Gospel and be the influencer

Its a great time to support true history of our nation ( not Hollywood). Restore prayer in charter schools and use methods as in Europe to teach. More outside, more interactive.
I say we threaten to fire those teachers and boycott the organizations who are holding our children hostage by demanding their far-left ideas be adopted. Children have got to be back at school, and using tactics like these are unacceptable.
When are we conservatives going to finally take a stand for our beliefs and principles and refuse to let them destroy our lives and our children?!
Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, Thank You for hearing our prayers as promised in Psalm 65:1. “You formed the mountains by Your power and armed yourself with mighty strength.” “You quieted the raging oceans and their pounding waves and silenced the shouting of the nations.” I pray for Your wisdom to be wrought through those making decisions about school openings. Your wisdom is perfect and always good. Quiet the dangerous, unrealistic demands made for “defunding police” protection just as you quiet raging oceans. Lord, all things are possible with You. Protect our youth, parents, families throughout the nation as controversies rage.
Deliver our nation, the world from evil for it is Your world, and You are Sovereign. Nothing will go forward without Your approval no matter how it looks to the human eye, and You will use all for GOOD. Through Moses, You told Your people You will fight for them and care for them all along the way traveling through the wilderness just as a Father cares for his child…” ( Deut. 1:30). As a former educator I refused to join the teacher’s union because their agenda was to indoctrinate far left ideology and to remove Christianity from the schools. They are willing to sacrifice parents and children and prevent school choice. We need school choice now and student vouchers to attend schools that remain open and welcome our children during this crisis. Teachers sit in a safe space, with salary, while they have no regard for parents who can’t afford to stay home from work to supervise remote learning. The fact that they refuse to open unless their far left demands are met is proof they are sabotaging our educational school system. We need to intercede to allow school choice funded as public schools are funded. Please join me and pray. This is God’s opportunity to bring His agenda back into our schools for the sake of our children, parents, and the future of this country.

Teachers Unions are attempting to manipulate parents & school boards into leftist policies & agendas. They also are heavy supporters of the Democratic Party.
Under Jimmy Carter (Democrat) the Department of Education was formed. Democrats have been steering the ship since. NCLB, Charter Schools, Vouchers all vehemently opposed by Teacher’s Unions and Democrats.
If there is anything systemic in our nation, it is the takeover of Education by keft, progressive ideologues. Not surprised by this article.
We must pray & act while there is time. We need Heaven to act and Revival to break out across our land.
