I Prayed have prayed
Lord God, we pray that our land would no longer be defiled by the shedding of innocent blood. Thank You that You are at work in us and in our nation as we cry out to You for life.

The landmark abortion case before the Supreme Court has gripped nation as nine justices consider whether to overturn Roe v. Wade. In fact, the court itself has become a site for heated protesting.

Any intercessor who is paying attention already knows that, but I took a trip to the Supreme Court this week that should encourage intercessors in our fight for life and illuminates a few important truths that we need to remember in this time.

Insider Intercessory Information

With a few friends I visited the Supreme Court one evening this week to pray for the nation, that the justices would have the mind of God and stand up for life. I was joined by a male friend who works for a Senator on Capitol Hill, a government contractor, and an intercessor applying for consulting jobs in Washington, D.C.

As we approached the court in the brisk evening cold, the spiritual atmosphere was palpably dark. You could feel the demonic tinge in the air. Our intercessor’s stomach began to turn.

The area was mostly vacated except for a few TV journalists and a security guard or two… the protesters had retreated for the night. On the street corner near the court, a gigantic a pile of pro-abortion signs were left by demonstrators. They spilled over the sidewalk. Protesters had also written vile things in chalk on the sidewalk. Viral videos from earlier that day showed defiant women appearing to take abortion pills amidst cheers from all around.

We got on our knees in front of the court and prayed. Some passersby in typical Washington, D.C. apparel, ties and business dresses, gave us odd looks. Others gave us dirty glares, almost incredulous someone could be doing this. They knew what we were about.

“Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.”

Are you willing to be persecuted for what you believe?

We prayed for justice to prevail in our nation, that life would be defended, that the fear of God and the ways of God would reign in our nation.

We stood to our feet and continued praying when four middle-aged women arrived. After chit-chatting, they offered to pray for us! Turns out they were intercessors from Texas on assignment to pray for the court.

As they prayed for us, the power and Presence of God was tangible. It felt like we stepped into a Holy Spirit vortex. God was moving outside on the very sidewalk where raucous, angry crowds had gathered just hours earlier. It was encouraging to see that while we felt alone out on that sidewalk…

God was very much with us.

The experience reminded me of a truth I have repeatedly shared in this column: God has placed his people strategically all over DC to usher in the Kingdom of God.

In this case, two SWAT-style prayer teams intersected in front of the Supreme Court. I suspect God wanted to encourage us both.

In our conversation after the prayer time, one thing the women shared struck me. They said the Lord told them to stay under the radar in their intercessory work. In a time of Facebook prophets, where some people seem to post nonstop self-promotion online, it was refreshing to meet a few humble women dedicated to intercession, for Jesus alone, not the fame or recognition.

It was also powerful and encouraging to see the merging of generations, that intercessors of all ages can combine in this hour to oust abortion from our country.

Before we left the court, our group prayed that the land would no longer be defiled by the shedding of innocent blood.

What a prayer to pray in this time…

With this in mind, let us pray:

-Jesus, we pray you would purify our land from the defilement of abortion, that your blood would cleanse the land of iniquity. Have mercy on our nation and act, Lord.
-Holy Spirit, we ask that you would move on the hearts and minds of the Justices, that you would convict them of sin, righteousness and judgement, (John 16:8) that they would fear God more than man and do the right thing.
-Lord, we pray against the backlash when abortion is ended. We ask that you would convict intercessors not to rest on their laurels, but to press in even harder to protect and steward the victory you give us.

Verses to pray into as you intercede on this issue:

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” -Psalm 139:13

“Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” -Ephesians 5:11

“Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.” -Luke 6:26

Thank you Casey Harper for that heartwarming encouragement – in these, the times of a combination of turmoil and and the groaning the Word describes- as we are pressed from within and without-,as time seems to evaporate before.- at least..my eyes..
Having fellowship reinforcements at such a crucial time is such a gift from heaven.
I guess we should pray for those facebook prophets, Thank you for the scriptures and the reminder to not take myself to.seriously..” ” more highly than we ought to”..
And- we will- See.. who-.. is willing to be persecuted- for their faith-.. when the time comes down to it.. No matter what anyone says – , how they present their case- no matter how poorly or how eloquently.
The truth will be in the testing-..when the dross is being refined from the silver- then we will see-who is willing to be persecuted for their faith- , I hope I can stand the test.
This will be bookmarked so I may pray through again..
blessings to all

Casey’s reports are of great value to me. I remember Isaiah 49:2, He made My mouth like a sharp sword; He hid me in the shadow of His hand. He made Me like a polished arrow; He hid Me in His quiver. Isaiah 49:2

“We got on our knees in front of the court and prayed.”
“God was very much with us.”
“ These were humble women dedicated to intercession, for Jesus alone, not the fame or recognition.”
“It was powerful and encouraging to see the merging of generations.”

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Isaiah 2:18. But the idols He shall utterly abolish.

Thank You Father for Casey Harper and the other unnamed men and women. It is clear You have honed them into a weapons, hidden for Your purpose. Your Word says You reward those who earnestly seek You so I pray You would grant their heart’s desires. Their desire is the same fervent desire for which Your earthly army of saints continue to appeal to Heaven. ..the utter abolishment of abortion, an idol from hell. May it please You to abolish all institutions built on the murder of children, the idols of this day. Heavenly Father, You are Holy. Would You bring Heaven to earth in this appeal? Would You forgive our sins and lead us to forgive those who sin against us? Please keep us from temptation and deliver us from the evil of abortion in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ for Your Glory, forever. Amen
