IFA has reported often on the harms of social media and kids. This state took action. What do you think of it?

From BBC. Utah has become the first US state to require social media firms get parental consent for children to use their apps and verify users are at least 18.

Let the IFA community know how to pray for you.

The governor said he signed the two sweeping measures to protect young people in the state.

The bills will give parents full access to their children’s online accounts, including posts and private messages. …

Under the measures enacted on Thursday, a parent or guardian’s explicit consent will be needed before children can create accounts on apps such Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.

The bills also impose a social media curfew that blocks children’s access between 22:30 and 06:30, unless adjusted by their parents.

Under the legislation, social media companies will no longer be able to collect a child’s data or be targeted for advertising.

The two bills – which are also designed to make it easier to take legal action against social media companies – will take effect on March 1, 2024. …

Children’s advocacy group Commons Sense Media welcomed the governor’s move to curtail some of social media’s most addictive features, calling it a “huge victory for kids and families in Utah”. …

Similar regulations are being considered in four other Republican-led states – Arkansas, Texas, Ohio and Louisiana – and Democratic-led New Jersey.

But Common Sense Media and other advocacy groups warned some parts of the new legislation could put children at risk.

Ari Z Cohn, a free speech lawyer for TechFreedom, said the bill posed “significant free speech problems”. …

As servants of Lord God Almighty, we need to put on the Armor of God and speak the truth to children who need to know the strength and love of Jesus! Not to fall into the garbage the world provides.

What is wrong with our parents to not check out what their kids are doing on social media? They are neglecting the kids by not being in control of what their kids get access to. Not being tech savvy is NO Excuse. How about taking the phones and fixing them so they don’t have access to the crap. I use a simple go phone that I basically use the phone for an emergency to get a hold my family, etc. Kids don’t need to be bowing non stop to a hand held god. They need to give their minds a rest. Teach them to bow to the savior ONLY!

It’s about time auxh action was taken to protect our kids. Tik Tok, et. al. are extremely dangerous influencers. Unfortunately, not everyoe realizes how very political and bad they are. Thank you, Utah!

Every state should have this. Christian parents should have the right to raise their families in a Biblically based home environment without interference from far left Western Nicolaitan’s teachings or cultural demise, ie: cancel culture or communist culture.

All of us need to use great discernment and vigilance when we access any form of media! Satan is using Hollywood, big tech, games, main stream media, porn, etc. to try to infest All users young and old with demons of fear, violence, lust, surveillance tools, deception….it is a flood. I pray we all guard ourselves and our kids and carefully monitor what we process. Proverbs 4.23… keep your heart with all diligence!

I AM THE LEAST IN THE LORD’S KINGDOM, TO JUDGE ANYONE, BUT IT SEEMS TO ME, THAT IF PARENTS WERE DOING THE JOB OF RAISING THEIR CHILDREN TO KNOW GOD, AND CHURCHES WERE DOING THEIR JOB, TO LET PARENTS KNOW OF THIER RESPONSIBILITIES TO THIER CHILDREN, WE WOULDN’T NEED STATES TO PASS LAWS TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN. WE USED TO HAVE CENSORING OF PROGRAMS ON TV AND THE MOVIES. SOMEWHERE ALONG THE LINE WE HAVE FORGOTTEN OUR DUTIES AS PARENTS AND PROTECTORS OF OUR CHILDREN.

I believe that because parents are failing to “parent”, that this is absolutely critical to save our children. I would prefer that parents bring their children up in a Christian home, Fathers and Mothers understand their God given role, ( and that means loving, teaching, role modeling AND disciplining their children), In addition, Pastors are failing to preach the LAW and Gospel and what is required to go to Heaven. The World has changed!

Excellent call on this new bill restricting children under 18 unless parents allow it. And the time frame restriction is good thing.

Thank you, thank you! Long overdue, social media is way overreaching. Lord, please give our officials wisdom and guidance to put much needed parameters on these social media platforms that seek to destroy our children’s minds, steal identities, and lure them into evil..

It is completely necessary and justified to restrict access to the children from tech companies and to have the God-given parental protection restored! This will thwart our enemy’s (satan) agenda to attack children and get into their minds. Brilliant! I am sending this to our Governor Stitt!
