Michigan is trying to make kindergarten mandatory. Many Republicans and families oppose this effort. What do you think?

From Chalkbeat Detroit. The Michigan Senate has approved legislation that mandates kindergarten attendance in Michigan.

The bill, which supporters say will improve early education, passed with a vote of 21-15, with Republicans in the Democratic-controlled Senate largely opposed. It must now go to the Michigan House for consideration.

Beginning with the 2025-26 school year, a child who is five years old on Sept. 1 would be required to enroll in kindergarten, whether in a traditional public school, charter school, private school, or if their parents are homeschooling them. …

“If we’re serious about setting kids up for a lifetime of success, early education is where it’s at,” Sen. Dayna Polehanki, a Democrat from Livonia, said on the Senate floor Tuesday.

Polehanki, the bill sponsor, said as Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Democratic lawmakers push to provide Michigan’s preschool program free for all, regardless of income, that “it doesn’t make sense that kindergarten continue to be optional.” …

Parents who believe their children aren’t ready for kindergarten would be able to opt out.

But Sen. Thomas Albert, a Republican from Lowell, raised concerns about the process. In order to opt out, a parent would need to notify their local school in writing that they intend to delay enrollment in kindergarten for a year.

“The process itself raises potential concerns about unwarranted monitoring of a family’s personal education decisions,” Albert said. “Why collect information from families who are choosing to wait a year before enrolling their kids in kindergarten? What is the good that is going to be accomplished by making homeschooling and private school parents report to their local public schools?”

Albert also questioned what local school districts are supposed to do with the information.

“Is this a step toward the tracking of some families who might homeschool or send their kids to private school? That’s none of the state’s business.”

Some homeschooling families have opposed the kindergarten legislation because they believe it will pave the way for a required registry. …

Let bibles and God be brought back in schools

This may be a worthwhile alternative to explore. Look up “Forest Kindergartens” on YouTube. They are popular in Scandinavia.

I believe they would be a wonderful alternative to traditional classroom education, though kids may learn some of the same things, but in a class without walls. It’s stress free for the kids, and they would have the great outdoors as a classroom. Just imagine how freeing it would be to explore, climb, jump off rocks, and create pictures out of natural objects while learning about nature and life. It’s full of possibilities rather than limitations. It’s exploration rather than memorization. What an glorious, unforgettable childhood that would be!

I can’t think of a better way to soak up early education than that.

When my older daughter was of kindergarten age, I asked a friend who taught 3rd grade if kindergarten made a difference. We had the choice in my state as to whether to send them to kindergarten or not. My friend said there wasn’t any difference. We homeschooled both my daughters and when they did go to school they did very well.

When are we going to stop letting the government tell us when are children are ready to go to school. This is a decision strictly of the parents. The government doesn’t own the children of its citizens. Parent are stewards over their children.
Father God give us wisdom and discernment at this time. In Jesus’ name.

Jesus,
Thank you for offering more opportunities for children to start schooling early, as we do need ALL OUR CHILDREN IN KINDERGARTEN!

No. All our children need to know Jesus. They will not get that with the indoctrination of the current state of this nation.

Father God, Adonai, Creator: You alone are enthroned in Heaven, You alone know the hairs on the head of everyone You made: past, present and future.

    Psalm 139 – in part
Before a word is on my tongue, You know it completely, Oh LORD.
You hem me in behind and before.

My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth Your eyes saw my unformed body.

Father, ”Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”“
    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭19‬:‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.“
    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18‬:‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

LORD: Protect our children from the deception of this nation and those who put into “legislation” the indoctrination of this age. Apply Your healing salve on the minds. hearts, ears and eyes of every child attending state run schools, Jesus. Show the children who You are and Your love for them.

I Thank You Jesus, I praise and ask this in Your Holy Name!

    Amen.

I am not sure what the problem is, I mean we already have politicians in our doctors offices telling us what kind of medical care we can get…
What is the difference?!
It’s hardly a power grab…especially if families can opt out too.
Lord please help people see how ridiculous they are being!

People are NOT being ridiculous; they are being cautious (and rightfully so), especially when it comes to the most precious gift we’ve received from our Lord – our children. If this was the 1950’s I’d say, ‘yeah, stop being ridiculous’. But this is 2024 and things have changed drastically. We no longer honor God. We defy all laws and the Constitution and make up our own. Our children are being indoctrinated instead of educated in school. So, the earlier we get them in through the classroom doors, the faster and easier it will be to mess up their brains. We must protect our children in any way we can and if that means no ‘mandatory’ kindergarten, then I’m 100% in favor – no mandatory kindergarten.

Father, stop this power grab. It’s a Slippery slope to more in the future. Parents should have control and do not have to send their impressionable young kids into the fray. Protect the. Kids, Llord!

No children going to kindergarten now, as women no longer want to bear children due to their fears of pregnancy!
Looks like pregnancy is dangerous business! It’s life threatening in America! No longer can maternal care be guaranteed…just look!
The lying pro lifers have literally scared everyone off!
My daughter just announced she was terminating a viable pregnancy here in Idaho, as she is fearful because there are no ob-gy doctors!
She must leave the state as well!
Wow!
