State Department Launches Crackdown on Birth Tourism
The State Department has created a new task force targeting birth tourism and visa fraud, an effort that has already resulted in hundreds of visa revocations. The initiative comes as the Trump administration pursues new avenues to restrict birth tourism following a Supreme Court ruling on birthright citizenship.

From The Epoch Times:
The announcement of the Birth Tourism Prevention Task Force comes as President Donald Trump issued new orders in response to a June 30 Supreme Court decision that overturned his bid to end automatic citizenship for children born in the United States to parents who are illegal immigrants or temporary visitors.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio drew attention to the issue of visa abuse on X.
“Elaborate birth tourism rings are profiting off the exploitation of America’s laws—coaching foreigners to defraud the U.S. visa system, arranging travel and housing, and even forging documents, all to enable foreign nationals to obtain citizenship for their children,” he said.
According to the State Department, the Birth Tourism Prevention Task Force is reviewing visa holders worldwide and using information from the department as well as other federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security. In just one month, the task force reportedly revoked more than 600 visas from individuals suspected of participating in or facilitating birth tourism.
Officials highlighted examples they say demonstrate how the visa system has been exploited. In one case, a foreign couple allegedly lied about the purposes of two separate trips to the United States and gave birth to children on American soil during both visits. Another woman reportedly obtained a visa to vacation in Orlando but instead traveled to Los Angeles, where she gave birth five days after arriving.
The crackdown follows a significant Supreme Court defeat for President Trump. On June 30, the Court ruled 6–3 against his effort to prevent children born in the United States to illegal immigrants and temporary visa holders from automatically receiving citizenship. Trump criticized the ruling and initially indicated that his administration would seek rehearing, but it did not file a petition before the July deadline.
The administration has instead pursued other avenues. On Aug. 6, Trump signed two new executive orders aimed at restricting birth tourism and expanding the categories of people whose children would not automatically qualify for birthright citizenship, according to White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller. Those efforts are already facing another legal challenge, with the American Civil Liberties Union and other organizations asking a federal judge to block the orders.
The State Department’s new task force represents another front in the administration’s broader effort to enforce immigration laws and prevent the visa system from being manipulated. As these policies move forward and the courts weigh their legality, let’s pray that our leaders would have wisdom to uphold the rule of law while protecting the integrity of American citizenship.
