Sheep, Listen! The Lord Is Our Salvation: A Prophetic Message for America as Spiritual Storms Gather
As I write on October 9, 2026, reports of three named storms—Rachel, Simon, and Isaias—have drawn attention to weather systems over the oceans around North America. Storms at sea can develop into dangerous threats to coastal communities, bringing destructive winds, flooding, and tremendous uncertainty. Yet as I considered these three names, something beyond the weather caught my attention.

I believe spiritual storms are also gathering against America. These are not storms of wind and rain, but forces threatening our nation’s biblical foundations. And the meanings associated with these three names suggest a message I believe is prophetic for the Church in this hour. Texas intercessor Kathie Chan looked beyond the names and into their meanings.
Rachel is Hebrew for “ewe,” or female sheep. Simon comes from the Hebrew Shim’on, associated with hearing. Isaias is the Greek form of Isaiah, meaning “Yahweh is salvation” or “the Lord saves.” Together, they suggest a striking appeal: “Sheep, listen! The Lord is your salvation!”
I believe He can use what catches our attention to bring us back to the unchanging truth of His Word. And this message speaks urgently to the spiritual battles confronting America. Texas Meteorologist Tommy House saw something more in the map as well. What could God be telling us?
The Spiritual Storms Facing Our Nation
One storm is the influence of political Islam, especially efforts to advance Sharia-based governance in ways that conflict with constitutional protections for religious liberty, equality before the law, and individual rights. Leaders and Christians should examine political and legal systems carefully and resist any effort to replace our constitutional framework with religious coercion.
Another storm is Marxist ideology. Its materialistic account of human nature, emphasis on class conflict, and historical hostility toward religious authority stand in profound tension with a biblical understanding of people as created in God’s image. We see echoes of these ideas whenever human worth is reduced to political categories and the state is treated as the ultimate source of redemption.
But I believe the third storm may be the most dangerous because it arises within the Church itself: the loss of our first love.
In Revelation 2, Jesus addresses the church at Ephesus. These believers worked hard, endured trials, and rejected false teaching. Yet the Lord said they had left their first love and called them to remember, repent, and return.
Sheep, Listen
That is why the names Rachel and Simon are so compelling to me. Jesus says in John 10:27, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” Hearing is more than noticing a sound; it demands attentiveness. Following is more than agreeing with a teaching; it requires obedience.
Sheep are vulnerable and prone to wander. Isaiah 53:6 reminds us, “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way.” We need the Shepherd not simply to warn us of danger, but to lead us through it.
We live in a noisy age. Political arguments, alarming headlines, social media, and competing cultural demands vie for our attention. Intercessors must understand the issues of our day, but the latest crisis must never become louder in our hearts than the voice of the Lord. Scripture, prayer, repentance, and obedience are not distractions from the battles before us. They are how we remain anchored in truth.
America needs more than Christians who can explain what is wrong. We need believers who listen closely enough to know when to speak, when to act, when to pray, and when to stand with courage.
The Lord Is Our Salvation
The final name, Isaias, points us to the answer: the Lord saves. Isaiah foretold the suffering Servant who would bear our sins. Jesus fulfilled that promise through His death and resurrection. His very name, Yeshua, declares that the Lord saves.
This truth must remain at the center of our work. We should defend constitutional freedoms, advocate for righteous laws, and confront ideas that contradict Scripture. But no political victory can accomplish what only Christ can do. No election can save a soul. No government can forgive sin. No cultural movement can reconcile us to God.
Acts 4:12 tells us there is salvation in no other name. America’s deepest need is spiritual, and our ultimate hope is Jesus Christ.
A Prophetic Call to Return
Throughout Scripture, creation points us to the majesty and authority of God. Psalm 19 says the heavens declare His glory. In Mark 4, Jesus rebuked the wind and the sea, and the storm obeyed Him. The disciples discovered that their safety rested not in their control of the elements but in the One who commanded them.
I believe the combination of these names offers a prophetic reminder—not a new doctrine or a prediction of specific disasters, but an urgent call to remember what Jesus has already said. The Church must recover its first love, hear the voice of the Good Shepherd, and proclaim the gospel boldly to a nation searching for answers.
The physical storms may be gathering and we will pray for our coastlines and citizens, and we will pray against those spiritual storms too. Remember, the Shepherd has not abandoned His sheep. His power has not diminished. His invitation remains open to the lost and the wandering alike.
Sheep, listen! The Lord is our salvation!
Let’s Pray
Heavenly Father, awaken Your Church to hear Your voice above the confusion of our day. Forgive us for allowing the battles around us to distract us from our first love. Give us discernment to recognize deception, courage to stand for biblical truth, and compassion to reach those who are lost. Protect those facing dangerous weather and strengthen communities in harm’s way. Turn hearts in our nation toward Jesus Christ, our only Savior and answer to every storm. In His mighty name, amen.
