Many Christians are among those who have been protesting how Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is handling deportations in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There were more than 600 faith leaders and clergy who went to Minneapolis on January 22. About 100 of them were arrested for “trespassing and failing to comply with an officer.”

I suspect many Christians were involved in the nationwide protests and strikes on Friday, which turned violent in LA.
These demonstrations may have been inflamed when Don Lemon was arrested Thursday night on charges of breaking the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act and the Ku Klux Klan Act. Federal authorities say Lemon conspired with protesters who entered Cities Church during its worship service on January 18, shouted profanities, and prevented parents from getting to their children or leaving the building. They wanted to confront one of the pastors, David Easterwood, who also leads the ICE field office in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Many of you have friends and/or family who are speaking or posting on behalf of illegal immigrants who are being deported. Maybe you are among them.
As I was praying with my bride, Joyce Swingle, also a contributing writer for IFA, we sensed there is no holier moment than praying God’s will over this situation.
She thought of this passage:
And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are You for us or for our adversaries?” So He said, “No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come” (Joshua 5:13-14).
People are not balanced with the whole heart of God. We’re all vulnerable on this subject. We’re talking in memes, and important nuances are lost. Pastors are afraid to risk offending people on both sides of the issue. We don’t have enough desire to find a middle ground, so we’re increasingly polarized.
As intercessors, we are uniquely positioned to get above the fray and pray into the whole situation.
It’s my prayer that this will be read and shared by people on all sides of this issue, so I’m going to share some of the nuances.
Racial Profiling
ICE’s Operation Metro Surge sent some 3,000 federal agents to Minneapolis. Mark Bruley, Police Chief in Brooklyn Park, just outside Minneapolis, reported officers are detaining people because of their skin color, and one citizen was taken out in the snow wearing only a blanket. When his grandson showed the agents the man’s ID, he was released without apology.
Lord, protect from traumatic incidents all image bearers approached by agents.
In a press conference, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “If Governor [Tim] Walz and Mayor Frey implement these commonsense cooperative measures… turn over all criminal illegal aliens currently incarcerated in their prisons and jails… that — I would add — have already been implemented in nearly every single other state across the country, Customs and Border Patrol will not be needed to support ICE on the ground in Minnesota.”
Though lower percentages were erroneously reported, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem stood by the fact that 70% of illegal immigrants are also charged with harsher crimes. During a press conference, President Trump shuffled through a large stack of papers listing the crimes of many of the illegal immigrants who were apprehended for sex trafficking, sexual assault, murder, selling drugs, committing fraud, etc.
Citizens Are Being Shot
A pastor posted, “We have seen… deaths explained away instead of grieved.”
Lord, be with the families and friends of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. May the grieving ones turn to you in this hour.
Nonetheless, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers makes clear, “Shooting a suspect with a firearm is not unconstitutional when a reasonable officer could believe that he poses a significant threat of death or serious bodily harm to the officer or others.”
Ms. Good used her vehicle as a weapon and struck ICE agent Jonathan Ross, causing internal bleeding to his torso.
The incident was less than a mile from where George Floyd was killed.
Lord, we pray You will bind the spirit of violence away from that neighborhood, the city, and America.
Officer Brandon Tatum broke down the moments leading up to Mr. Pretti being shot, and it’s clear federal agents shot him because they thought he was reaching for his loaded gun.
Xi Van Fleet, survivor of Mao’s Cultural Revolution, who said, “In Minneapolis it is communist insurrection,” observed, “Those people like Alex Pretti, I think they are ready to give their lives… for the [communist] cause.”
It should also be considered that there are 13,099 immigrants convicted of homicide living in the U.S. It is their victims who are compelling the current administration to deport them.
Lord, we also pray for the tens of thousands of families and friends whose loved ones have been taken from them by those who broke the law to be in this country.
We’re a Nation of Immigrants
Our nation is a true melting pot. Because of the Judeo-Christian values our nation was built upon, immigrants have come here from all over.
When Joyce was attending a missions night at Times Square Church in New York City many years ago, Pastor David Wilkerson read through all the nations of the earth and asked people to stand if they were from that nation. Nearly every nation was represented in that single service!
From 1892 to 1954, there were 12 million immigrants who were vetted through Ellis Island. What’s facing us today is untold millions of unvetted illegal aliens allowed across our open borders during the four years of the Biden administration.
In the past, some presidents have deported more. According to Newsweek, Barack Obama’s immigrant removals totaled more than five million during his two terms. Joe Biden sent nearly 4.8 million home in his one term. In President Donald Trump’s first term, there were 1.88 million removals, and in 2025, he added 622,000, less than Mr. Biden’s lowest year of 777,580.
What’s Different?
We have to ask why there’s such an uproar now.
The timing of the well-coordinated protests is concerning. Governor Walz was implicated in the fraud that President Trump said stole more than $19 billion from taxpayers, specifically from legitimate learning centers needing that funding. Now, four articles of impeachment are being drawn up against Governor Walz. Urging citizens to film ICE officers nine days after dropping out of the gubernatorial race certainly seems to have been a diversion.
Also, with midterms approaching, there might be a coordinated attempt to shift the balance of power in Congress.
What’s Concerning
According to the DHS, ICE agents are facing a 1,300% increase in assaults, a 3,200% increase in vehicular attacks against them, and an 8,000% increase in death threats.
Lord, we pray for de-escalation and for safety for everyone involved.
Stirring up a focus on deportations could lead to the very thing protesters say they are trying to prevent: more abuse of immigrants.
For example, the blame placed on Israel in the war in Gaza has led to the most antisemitic incidents in the 46 years the Anti-Defamation League has been tracking them.
We’ve watched the tragic rise of Nick Fuentes, a fan of Adolf Hitler.
Will this obsession with ICE raise up voices turning hearts against the image bearers who look different?
While writing this, I discovered the father of someone I know was beaten and told to die by someone who overheard the 75-year-old speaking a foreign language with his neighbors.
Lord, we pray against a rise in racism and hate crimes.
Our only hope is the kind of revival that will bridge the growing divide. Lord, bring your Church together to face facts and fulfill your prayer:
“Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are” (John 17:11).

Yes, this is all grevious.
To speak of another similar subject, in addtion to the morals of the main performer for the 2026 Superbowl, apparently, the big objection to this person (whose name doesn’t come to me easily) was that he spoke (and sang) in Spanish! Of all the people who now live in the US, I would think that we should not be too upset, hearing a celebrity singing in Spanish! 80 years ago, our neighbors on the other side of our back fence were Mexican (at a time when some Hispanic families would admit to being Spanish).
I am not out to discount what has been witnessed in Wilmar Minnesota and not saying mistakes aren’t being made, however, I would caution making judgement on the ICE agents without knowing all the facts. It is easy to witness an event and think that it is horrible but what is the intel that the ICE agents have that have lead them to go in.
We should pray not only for the protection of the ICE agents but that God would give them wisdom when going into a situation. This goes to also praying for our government leaders, especially President Trump as there are many different fronts going on not only abroad but at home and cleaning house can be messy. I Timothy 2:1-2
It is easy to get caught up with what we see but remember unless we have all the information we cannot fully understand what we are seeing and Satan would use that in the context of what we are being told to divide us as a nation. ICE is there to do their job, we need to guard our hearts and pray, anything else can only bring more harm and division.
Lastly, we are a nation built on Godly principles, in fact our three branches of government are straight from scripture, see Isaiah 33:22. For our government to work we need as least God fearing people to serve, we have seen what happens when we have people in government that are not God fearing. Political power is dangerous in anyone’s hands and can be especially frightening under Religion, but under a Godly man or woman of God who submits themselves to God it can work as God intended it. For this reason we need to pray for the mid-term elections that God will select the men and women who will be sensitive to His council and leading in governmental affairs, and above all else we should be praying Your Kingdom Come, Your Will be Done, on Earth as it is in Heaven as we pray over our Nation.
The Christian protesters in Minneapolis have achieved a minor victory as 700 ICE agents will be immediately withdrawn. Consider the civil rights movement a grass roots movement that change the way people thought about race. The religious right started at the top, going for political power – always dangerous for Christians. And we see the results thuggish brutality from an administration with little popular support.
An administration with little popular support? Surely you are primarily referencing the many still violating federal law by remaining in America illegally. The vast majority of citizens want law and order – not atheist-funded chaos in our cities. Please pray for true wisdom from the Holy Spirit, who is never the author of such confusion and deception. He is the Prince of Peace, which is what Pres. Trump seeks to restore to our nation!
It seems that conservative leaders don’t know about situations like the one described below or they’re not addressing them. I hope to see Christian leaders being fair about presenting the whole picture, not just what supports their political loyalties. I pray they will acknowledge situations like the one below, whic;h, I’m afraid are too much a part of the ICE campaign.

By this time, we’ve all heard a hundred stories about what’s happening in Minnesota. I’m going to share mine anyway. A perspective on what the past two weeks have been like in Willmar, a small (21,000) rural Minnesota town made up of approximately 17% minority residents, mostly hailing from Mexico and Somali. A town where I work everyday as an HR Director, alongside so many dedicated colleagues and law enforcement professionals. This is not an account as reported by cable news or social media. This is what I’ve witnessed, what trusted friends and colleagues have witnessed, and what local law enforcement has reported.
Because of our exceptionally large immigrant population (due to local meatpacking and agricultural industries and a welcoming spirit), Willmar has been the scene of an intense ICE presence over the past couple of weeks.
Before I tell you what is happening, let me tell you what is definitely NOT happening. ICE did not arrive with a list of violent criminals that they were looking to round up (there are very, very few violent criminals in Willmar anyway). They have not coordinated any of their actions with local law enforcement or provided law enforcement with names or information about anyone who has been detained, which is generally supposed to happen through shared data bases.
Here’s what IS happening. ICE agents have frequented places that young Somali residents are known to work, such as Walmart. Did you know that every business in America is required to verify the work status of anyone that they employ? Using a social security number, two forms of ID, and a federal database, we have to confirm that each employee is in the US legally AND has authorization to work. So unless a business is paying someone under the table and not reporting the wages as a business expense (which I can assure you a corporation as large as Walmart is not), then the very fact that someone HAS a job indicates their legal status in the US.
When ICE agents see a black person in Willmar, they’ve been asking them whether they are Somali. Not whether they are a citizen, are here legally, have ID, or a criminal record. Whether they are Somali.
When ICE agents decide that someone looks like a valid target, they are pulling them from cars, streets, or buildings and stuffing them into vehicles. They are driving away from the scene and then, if the person is very lucky, asking about ID. If that person is able to produce valid proof of citizenship and are lucky enough to be released, ICE agents are dropping them at the side of the road to walk back to wherever they were taken from. Not sure if you’ve noticed, but it’s been a little chilly lately for snatching people out of vehicles and dropping them off miles away to walk back. If they’re lucky. Others are only released days later. Some never are.
I mentioned that ICE is not updating databases with the names of people who have been detained or where they are being held. So when the local police department receives a call that someone didn’t come home from work or school, they have no idea whether they should send out all available resources to search for a missing person or whether that person has been detained by ICE. They can’t answer questions from residents about where their loved one is being held or what is happening to them. They don’t have any information. Because ICE isn’t in town to arrest a list of criminals. They are in town to terrorize a community.
Willmar is not a liberal community. It consistently votes Republican, insists on lower taxes, and has its fair share of racial tension. And you will be hard-pressed to find any group in Willmar that thinks the events of the past two weeks have been good for our community or have made anyone safer. We held our regular City Council meeting on Tuesday. It was 3 hours long and attended by so many people that they spilled out of the room and into the hallway. People desperate to find a way to protect their community. Most of them white residents who could put their heads down and live their lives in no danger. But they recognize that their neighbors need their help and their community needs their voices. They are not ok with ICE agents showing up at our schools. They are not ok with ICE agents targeting Somali business owners who have revitalized a dying downtown. They are not ok with how this country is treating refugees that were invited here to pursue life, liberty, and happiness. They are not ok. None of this is ok.

For that reason, I’ve deleted the disgusting crap and turned off commenting for anyone that I don’t personally know.
Thank you for sharing that personal story from the town of Willmar. It is so hard so know what is accurate reporting these days on both sides of any issue. I do believe that justice requires that those who have committed crimes be held accountable. But it makes me sad to think that legitimate citizens are being targeted and not asked to produce proof of citizenship. Citizens should be asked to provide proof of citizenship and treated compassionately. If ICE was not facing so much opposition and chaos on the streets, it seems they could do their job more efficiently. I am praying for self-control and compassion from the ICE agents and also for those protestors wreaking havoc on the streets to stop. I have to wonder how many of the Somalian “businesses” that were scamming the taxpayers were actual citizens. If they are citizens, then I can understand why certain businesses need to be scrutinized. Oh LORD, give us clarity and wisdom to know how to rightly think about these complex situations.

Father enlighten the hearts of believers who have bought into the rhetoric and have gone to protest against ICE. My prayer is that they would see that you are a God with borders and that Heaven itself has a pearly gate which can only be entered by the blood of Jesus. May they understand that you are a God of righteousness and justice and that Heaven itself cannot be breached illegally and if this is the standard of Heaven how much more should we obey the laws of our country. May these professing believers see and understand that there have been many immigrants that have gone through the legal process to be here and have become citizens and that ICE isn’t after those who are here legally, only deporting those who have wrongfully come into this country through illegal means.
Lastly, I pray for the ICE agents and all law enforcement who are upholding the law of this country and are being attacked for it. Place a wall of protection around them and their families and give them the strength to continue to do the work of upholding the Law of the Land.
I pray this in the mighty name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who is the Commanding King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

My prayer is that God will dry up the source of money funding these protests. Pray that the paid agitators be exposed. Expose the Non Americans funders and the hold that they have over the agitators-do anything for the love of money and hatred. Expose those who have no love for this great country and their desire to destroy America.
Pray for the ICE and all law enforcement officers and their families. I pray for an end to the lawlessness and chaos. Father you know the right time to remove Tim Waltz, Jacob Frey, Keith Ellison, and the Lt Gov. let it be so. Please help us to keep our eyes on you..You have promised to reveal the things that have been hidden n the darkness and we believe that you are doing so now.
Oh God! Help us to be a Nation of law and order, a Nation of justice, as prescribed in Your Word.
Please help all of our government officials — Federal, State, and Local — to work together in a manner that
protects civil liberties, respects human dignity, and ultimately glorifies You. May our Nation not be a blight in the world’s eyes, for Your Name’s sake! Anyone that claims Renee Good did not use her car as a weapon, has been brainwashed by the corrupt media, ie NBC, CBS, ABC, TIC-TOC or any of the other far left media, that is against law and order.
“Then I will tell them to their faces, ‘I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness!’” says the Lord in Matt 7:23. “For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.” 2 Cor 11: 13-14.
Christians well-intentioned, but possibly deceived? Does lawlessness honor God? These are not judgements, just questions to test our understand. If the elect can be led astray in the name of compassion, what hope is there for the unbeliever to understand God’s word?
Lord, the challenge is before us to know your ways. We “call out for insight, cry aloud for understanding” Prov 2:3. We need your help. Maranatha, come Lord Jesus.
Lord may your justice and grace abound for the resolution in all these situations.

A peaceful protest is one thing, but what the crowds in MN are doing is interfering with civil law. We need to get out of the way and allow ICE to do their job. Many are rookies and are bound to make mistakes, especially with the unbearable threats and tension they face. As a nurse, I can barely get a Band-Aid on straight when under pressure. Well meaning does not make right. Father – please . . .
Paid protesting is not free will, it is commercial activity; paid protestors and their sponsors belong in jail and fined heavily.
Hey, as much as we don’t like to see death of anyone as Christians, we also have to prioritize citizenship and those who assimilate, otherwise, our values will be lost to Globalism. The red/green alliance of Marxists and Jihadists are spreading anarchy to break it all down to rebuild it totalitarian style. Remember “Build Back Better?” That was Biden at the helm (he didn’t know he was) of the Marxist Color Revolution to build back on the basis of Communism. It didn’t work so those like Alex Pretti and Renee Good were willing to risk their lives like the Bosheviks in Russia did. When Communism comes, there’s no way to prevent bloodshed, but you can mitigate it by nipping it in the bud and rolling hard on these enemies of our Constitution. That’s what’s needed!
May God bring order out of this chaotic situation…may all involved on the ground open their minds and hearts to Jesus’ wisdom, reason and love. Lord, please send massive snowfall to these area so that rioters would just stay put and not go out to protest. May ICE and law enforcement be guided and protected.
For all of us who may need some encouragement this very day: Keep on keeping on!
The Harvest is upon us; continue to get closer to our Commander King Yeshua knowing He has equipped us with right attitudes, right responses, and right encounters. Continue on in prayer as His reputation and His harvest is at stake.
Don’t let it be said of us that we shrunk back as we observe the enemy’s advances. Don’t let it be said of us that we let up on our prayer posture because of our disappointments and emotions. Don’t let it be said of us that those souls who are on the brink of being harvested into the Kingdom of God fell away because of our fatigue or our discouragement. As it was with Ester it is with us…we were born for such a time as this! Know your privilege in this moment in history!
Yeshua is our strength…rely on Him in these hours and coming days. Keep on keeping on!
Should you have put down His Holy armor which He supplied for us, take time to retrieve it. Dust it off. Reacquaint yourself with it (Eph 6:10-18). Put it back on for another day of effectual prayer.
Saints, keep on keeping on! All for the sake of the Lamb, our King Yeshua and His Holy cause that none should perish.
Lord, Psalm 36: 12(11) “Don’t let the foot of the proud tread on us or the hands of the wicked drive us away.” Enable us to keep on asking, keep on seeking, keep on knocking as we increase our trust in You to answer our cries in Your perfect timing and will; for Your glory and our praise to You with joy!
As You washed the disciples feet to cleanse their daily filthy feet (John 13), I pray we humble ourselves before you today and receive our foot washing of our daily sins. Thank You Living Water that is still flowing from Your position in heaven.

Jesus never died to bring about a welfare state. Even it says in the Scriptures ‘“he who doesn’t work doesn’t eat.” It also says do justice, love mercy, walk humbly with your God. Justice is just as important of an ingredient in love, as is mercy. If you take mercy out of the equation, it becomes tyranny. If you take justice out of the equation it becomes anarchy.
Yes, the Bible talks about Jesus feeding the thousands— But it also says at one of those events he told the people that they came” just for the food.”

Lord, I pray for the truth. I pray for those who are your vessels to be filled with your spirit, compelled to do Your work. I pray for Your Kingdom to come, Your will be done. Not the will of the people or the politicians. Let your remnant, your church rise…being the unhidden light on the hill, being the light in this darkness. We know that your only begotten son did not come to change the world but to save it. To save those with willing and receiving hearts. I pray for everyone reading this… that they understand their salvation isnt in politics, or even in this world. I pray that your people continue to love their neighbor, take care of the orphans and the widows, continue to represent you in all that they do. For we know these are the end times and with wars and rumors of wars, people falling away from the truth, people pushing their own agendas, the rising of false prophecy … Your word is clear that we are to remain in you. Not to be swayed by the wind or any other doctrine (like the doctrine of theocracy and many others). We pray for your peace Oh Lord. We pray that Your people, who are called by your name, humble themselves and pray-turn from their wicked ways-seek your face so that their lands may be healed. Wake up America before it’s too late. All that is happening is spiritual. God is speaking loudly and clearly. I am afraid to imagine how much more He has to do for US to pay attention. Bringing Elon Musk into our government is not the answer. I am appalled at the way the elected officials and the Supreme Court have allowed such shameful actions. There will be a day of reckoning when the One Supreme Judge calls everyone to account. We are walking closer and closer to self-destruction. The agent was hospitalized and bleeding internally.
The ICE agent was not hospitalized, he never even went to the hospital. Just about everything Trump’s people said about the incident is a lie. There was no internal bleeding and Renee Good was fleeing not aiming her car at the ICE agent who murdered her.
Dear Heavenly Father, Ultimately decisions were made to open our borders, jeopardizing citizens safety and taxing our already overburdened organizations, social services and others. Whatever the reason, this has led to a mass invasion harming our citizens, particularly targeting young women and others! Lord forgive us for the past errors, some in hopes to increase their voting base, but neglecting our citizens, particularly women! We pray to become increasingly discerning in Jesus’ name. Amen!

Dear Father God, we desperately need your intervention in the matter of immigration. Only you know the truth 100%. We only know what we hear about and the external things we can observe. Surely you do move people from place to place in order that they might find you and/or fulfill your purposes. On the other hand, surely Satan also moves people from place to place for nefarious purposes and to try to thwart your plans. Only you know the hearts, mind, souls, and situations of each immigrant and the place on this earth where they can best fulfill your purpose, whether it be here or in their home country or somewhere else. In order to solve a problem, you have to get accurate information. DHS says 60-70% of immigrants arrested are charged with crimes but most of those crimes are related to traffic and immigration charges. Government records show that 10% are charged with violent crimes. I can find no numbers of how many are charged with robbery, fraud or prostitution. And the percentages have changed over time. Recently, I have seen that something like 43% are now charged with crimes but that percentage comes with no clarification as to the types of crimes.

I have seen no numbers on stealing or fraud, for example. Accuracy removes the emotion and allows us to look at a situation in a more accurate light.
Yes, the protesters are being trained but their training has nothing to do with how protests were handled during the Civil Rights Moment of the 1960s. Their training encourages them to interfere with law enforcement.

Paid protesting is commercial activity, not protesting of free will which the first amendment protects. Paid protestors need to be fined and incarcerated to remove the incentive of receiving money for creating public mayhem, blocking streets, etc. The financiers need to have their assets seized and jailed also. The media is also “playing with fire” for biased reporting. Disruption of church services is as low as it can go, and Don Lemon belongs in jail with a hefty fine along with others involved. The supposed attorney involved with disrupting the church services needs to be disbarred immediately.
There is no evidence of paid protesters. I live in Minneapolis and there is no need to pay anyone to record and demonstrate against ICE.

I read the entire article twice and my take away is that the author should not be speaking without knowledge (Job 38). I’m actually quite disappointed that IFA allowed you to post on what I typically see as a well balanced website. There is a biased agenda that peeks through the seemingly balanced fluff making your words fall flat. You lump everyone into the same group, including the trained officers giving their lives to defend our country and rescue children from rapists. Your article slants towards the abuse of immigrants versus the abuse of ice agents. These agents have to be on their guard as they walk into the war zones in these cities where trained, violent protestors are primed and paid to inflict as much harm on them as is possible in the given setting.

There are many reasons ice agents, remove people from areas of interest. White people have been removed as well. By the way, did you know that many of the ice agents are young Hispanic men and people of color? The courts (local and federal) need to be purged of rogue judges. Lawyers will not “police” their own so this cancer in the courts is prevalent at the HIGHEST levels. (Including the Supreme Court and biden’s apppointee.) Congress will not do its job either; the government is shut down over ICE funding. For a beginning, the qualifications and ruling history of every judge appointed by Biden needs to be reviewed, looking toward retention or removal from the bench. Other federal judges like that Menandez need to sit before ethics committees, looking toward bias (forbidden) or impartiality (OK) in their case decisions.
If this was done to Trump appointed judges too I would be in favor of it.

I began reading these prayers, and stopped because they are themselves biased! Praying for the “image bearers” vs. the agents.. who are not image bearers? Praying for those killed by agents but not for the agents who were put in a position to kill? We know that many of them are paid protesters who love violence and have only evil in their hearts. Lord, rebuke those who claim to know You and ignorantly join in in the false name of compassion.
