I Prayed have prayed
Lord, we ask You to heal and protect Senator McConnell. Silence the lies about his health, and restore peace and integrity to Washington.
Reading Time: 2 minutes

After weeks of speculation surrounding Sen. Mitch McConnell’s health, several prominent Republicans are pushing back on rumors by sharing details of their recent conversations with the longtime Kentucky senator. Their statements offer the clearest public indication yet that the former Senate majority leader remains engaged as he recovers from a medical emergency.

From the Daily Wire:

CNN contributor and former McConnell adviser Scott Jennings said on Tuesday that he spoke with his “old friend” for nearly twenty minutes.

“I spoke to my old friend Mitch McConnell this morning, the senior Senator from Kentucky,” Jennings wrote on X. “He’s still recovering in the hospital. We talked for just shy of 20 minutes … about IRAN, UKRAINE, the unfolding situation in MAINE, my visit to the TR Presidential Library, and even a little bit of Senate history. I told him we want to see him back at work as soon as possible.”

McConnell’s office also released another brief statement Tuesday, saying the senator “continues to improve and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.”

McConnell, 84, was hospitalized on June 14 after suffering what emergency dispatch recordings indicated was a cardiac arrest that required CPR. Since then, his office has provided only limited updates about his condition, declining to disclose the nature of his medical emergency or offer details about his prognosis. The lack of information fueled widespread online speculation, including unsubstantiated claims that the senator was unconscious or on life support.

The latest statements from Jennings were echoed by Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso, both of whom said they also held lengthy conversations with McConnell this week covering national security and legislative matters. While those conversations appear to refute rumors that the senator is unable to communicate, questions remain about his recovery timeline and whether he will return to the Capitol. His health has also drawn attention because of Kentucky’s revised Senate succession law, which now requires a special election rather than allowing the governor to appoint a replacement should a vacancy occur.

As intercessors, we should be careful not to spread rumors or speculation, especially when facts remain uncertain. Scripture calls us to speak truthfully, pray for those in authority, and remember that every leader is ultimately dependent on God’s sustaining grace. Let’s pray for Sen. McConnell’s recovery, for wisdom among our nation’s leaders, and for integrity in the public communication surrounding matters of national importance.
