The date marks the anniversary of a significant moment in American history. On September 12, 1782 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Continental Congress approved the first complete English-language Bible printed in America, known as the Aitken Bible—often referred to as “The Bible of the Revolution.” This resolution offers an opportunity to reflect on the spiritual foundation and enduring values that helped shape our Republic.
The resolution will:
- Designate September 12th as the National Day of the Bible;
- Recognize the Aitken Bible not only as a religious text, but as a symbol of America’s resilience and commitment to self-governance;
- And encourage schools, civic institutions, and communities to observe the day with programming that highlights the Bible’s significance in our nation’s history.
“More than any other source, our Founders cited Scripture as the source for the principles upon which our nation is established. Today we’re seeing renewal in our culture and a return to the values that once anchored us,” said Congressman Cloud. “This week I’m introducing a resolution to recognize September 12th as the National Day of the Bible—243 years after Congress approved the 1,452-page Aitken Bible. Marking this day reminds us that the Bible is not only the bedrock of our liberty, but the living Word of God that continues to guide us as a People.”
“The Bible is a source of hope and encouragement for Christians around the world,” Rep. Thompson said. “I am proud to introduce this resolution observing September 12th as ‘The Day of the Bible,’ honoring when the U.S. Congress in Philadelphia approved the first English Bible printed in America in 1782. Since then, scores of Americans have found strength, guidance, and meaningful discernment of God’s Word in its pages.”
“Congressmen Cloud and Thompson’s leadership honors a truth at the heart of our nation: the Bible has shaped the conscience of America,” said Doug Mastriano, PA State Senator. “I’m grateful for his work to recognize Scripture’s enduring role in inspiring faith, strengthening families, and calling all of us to live with courage, compassion, and integrity.”
“It has been an honor to work with Congressmen Cloud and Thompson on this significant endeavor to restore the Bible as the bedrock of this great republic,” said Stephanie Borowicz, PA State Representative. “Surrounding the events of our nation’s 250th anniversary, Sept. 12 will serve as an opportunity to proclaim, reflect on, and teach future generations about the Biblical principles upon which our nation was founded.”
“This historic act underscores the Bible’s foundational role in shaping our nation’s moral and cultural heritage,” said American Principles Project. “As champions of family and faith, American Principles Project believes this designation will inspire reflection on the Bible’s enduring influence on core American values including liberty and justice. We call on Congress to pass this resolution to encourage the celebration of the Bible’s enduring impact on our society.”
“We are often told we should not hide our history. Indeed, with the declaration of the National Day of the Bible, we will celebrate it,” said Stephen Skelton, President of the First American Bible Project. “Marking September 12, 2025, will not only acknowledge our history, but also illuminate our future.”
The resolution is supported by a coalition of organizations including the American Principles Project, Family Policy Alliance Foundation, Family Research Council, First American Bible Project, HOPE to the Hill, Intercessors for America, National Association of Christian Lawmakers, National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), and WallBuilders. Absolutely, we should do this. It also honors God from who all our blessings flow.
I am agreeing with all the prayers and thoughts from fellow intercessors and blessings to all who worked to get this resolution before Congress to declare SEPTEMBER 12 NATIONAL DAY IF THE BIBLE! Amen.
Does anyone know the current status of the Resolution? Or if it has been introduced yet?
Has anyone called their Congressman to urge support?
We must put God first. His Holy Word (the Bible) is paramount to returning this nation back to it’s original foundation. Our nation was founded on a desire to freely worship God. To do this we need to know HIM. We do that by reading His Words. And that means we need to put Him first, in our national Government, our State governments, our Counties, our Cities, Townes, Communities, Churches, Work Places, Homes and in our Hearts.
Lets do this!!!!
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. To honor His word, is to honor Him. Let the foundation of our country be celebrated by acknowledging His word.
It is a wonderful idea! Let us celebrate the Day of the Bible!
This National Day of the Bible has long been needed. While we support religious freedom, we have always been a Christian nation at our core Our decrees and laws have been based on Christian ethics and beliefs. May we continue to do that and may the IFA continue to support that.
God bless.

God blees.
Dear IFA,
A very dear friend of mine, Cherie Smith is a faithful supporter of IFA, and is also faithful to forward your messages to me. I am so grateful for her presence in my life, and especially grateful that she forwarded your article, which made me aware of the effort to proclaim September 12th as The National Day of the Bible!
I am also deeply grateful for IFA, and for your efforts to encourage prayer.
DEAR LORD GOD
PLEASEHELP US AS A COUNTRY TO GROW CLOSER TO YOU IN ALL OUR PERSONAL AND OFFICIAL ACTIVITIES.
I ASK IN JESUS’ NAME
AMEN
What is involved
Great idea
Alleluia God rules!
Lord, So Be It. What a glorious day!
I think it is a fine resolution. September 12 is a great day of choice. On September 12, 2001, after the shock moved over from the terrorist attacks the day before, we woke up and realized we were still one Nation under God. I don’t know of a better day to declare the National Day of the Bible.
Psalm 138:1-2 A Psalm of David. I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee. I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy Word above all thy Name.
I don’t presume to fully understand this Scripture, but I do recognize that God’s Word should be magnified and am thankful for this resolution which is meant to do so.
I think Bible Day is an excellent idea. It truly is the basis and support of the thinking of our founders and, also, many people who have served our country, like Mike Pompeo.
This is all nice and good; however EVERY day is the day of the Bible. If only our elected officials would realize this, and live and act accordingly. Lord Jesus, by Your grace, please bring this to pass in our nation. Amen.
BRILLIANT!!!!!!
Our dear glorious Holy Father. May we recognize that your word is living and sharper than two edge sword. The Your Word can penetrate even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. May we not take for granted the word that you gave us. May we receive it greatly by reading and meditating and proclaiming to all those around us. Not only for one day but each and every day we consume Your wonderful words and put to practice what you command. Jesus you say if we love you we are to keep your commandments. Help us to be gravitated to the holy Spirit and leading us to understand your word and use it in our daily life in Jesus name we pray
Amen!!!
AMEN
Amen…in Jesus’ Name I agree!
Father , Just as Paul prayed for Your word to speed ahead and be honored (2Thess 3:1), may Your word spread quickly and be honored and revered here in our nation.
Lord, we decree this day is a major step in proclaiming YOUR sovereignty in our nation. We ask You to bless those sponsoring the bill, & protect them & all around them. We declare PASSAGE, PASSAGE, PASSAGE! And, Lord, we ask You to take us to the next level in You & move on the hearts of the President, his staff, his cabinet & EVERY MEMBER OF CONGRESS to declare a NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER to unify our hearts with Yours & see this nation SET FREE, in Jesus’ name!
