As tensions in the Middle East continue to shape global politics, a new report is raising concerns about the influence one wealthy Gulf nation may wield inside the United States. Researchers argue that Qatar’s vast investments in American institutions have given the country outsized influence in sectors ranging from higher education to energy and defense.

“I spent over a year trying to trace as much of Qatar’s money as I could in the United States, and the grand total that I came up with was $400 billion and change,” she explained. “That’s billion with a b.”
Most of that money started flowing in 2010.
“In some cases, it’s a clear play for influence. I would say that money the Qataris spend on lobbying, public relations, media, to a certain extent, education, all of that is buying influence to some degree,” Ecanow said.
The report comes from the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), which examined Qatari investments throughout the United States. According to researcher Natalie Ecanow, the Gulf nation has directed substantial funding into sectors including defense, energy, lobbying, media, and higher education. While many of these activities are legal and publicly disclosed, critics argue that the scale of the investments raises important questions about foreign influence and America’s strategic interests.
Qatar occupies a unique position in the Middle East. The nation hosts the critical Al Udeid Air Base, a key hub for U.S. military operations in the region, and has maintained close ties with Washington for decades. At the same time, Qatar has faced criticism for its relationships with groups such as Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as for hosting Taliban representatives. These competing roles have led some analysts to describe Qatar as both a strategic partner and a source of concern.
One area drawing particular scrutiny is higher education. According to the report, Qatar has become one of the largest foreign donors to American universities, providing billions of dollars to institutions such as Georgetown, Northwestern, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, and others. Critics argue that such financial relationships may shape campus culture and influence discussions surrounding Israel, antisemitism, and Middle East policy. Georgetown University has maintained that its partnership with Qatar complies with all federal reporting requirements and that it retains full academic independence.
The report also highlights Qatar’s growing investments in American energy production and defense industries. President Donald Trump recently praised Qatar as a valuable partner and welcomed additional investment into the United States. Yet some national security experts warn that economic partnerships should not prevent policymakers from carefully examining Qatar’s broader regional activities and relationships.
This story serves as a reminder to pray for discernment among America’s leaders. Scripture calls us to be wise stewards and to exercise discernment regarding outside influences that may shape institutions, public policy, and cultural values. As concerns about antisemitism continue to grow on some college campuses and instability persists in the Middle East, let’s can pray for truth, accountability, and strong support for Israel and its people.

We might want to also consider the Middle East adopting Christian values , although not calling them that. Starting with the Abraham Accords, the qualities of trust, doing alittle “ do unto others, etc.” islam holds no inherent value for the advancement of mankind, …it will begin to wane.
This seems like disloyalty to the President. He and his family have strong ties to business in the area and are reaping the financial rewards. Part of the quid pro quo is having a presence in America. Do we want the Trump family to suffer loss?
Money from Qatar into our education flowed into much lower grades than “higher” education. When my granddaughter was in the San Diego public school system, over a decade ago, they were teaching about Islam in her middle school. One girl came home from school and told her mother that the class prayed the Islamic prayer to become a Muslim that day. As you can imagine, the mother was very disturbed upon hearing this. She was on a mission to find out how Islam became so invasive into the San Diego public school system. She was shocked, as well as I, that billions (with a B) had been spent starting years prior by Qatar into that school system alone. This was over twelve years ago. My granddaughter just graduated from college, sadly all that wokeness being taught in SD schools accomplished it’s goal. My granddaughter needs prayer. So much damage has been done by Qatar to all our young, from the youngest thru college age. Qatar is not our ally. NO WAY.

This is an area where our government needs to set clearly defined boundaries, and to enforce them as necessary. There is NO place in our society and nation for ANYTRHING even remotely related to Islam. These are NOT peaceful. They would love to overtake this nation. We need to do whatever is necessary to not let this happen. Please, Lord, by Your grace and mercy, give our leaders the guidance, wisdom, and discernment of spirits that are needed to deal with this issue appropriately. Thank You Jesus.
Lord empower enlighten and empower Trump, his team and all of us to choose to adhere to your New Covenant with Israel and not mere Financial gain, or “making America great”.It’s a choice between YHVH or Baal. This is an extremely alarming report. It sounds like bribery to me. We should all be asking
God for wisdom and discernment for our leaders. Beware of enemies bearing gifts. They are ravenous wolves in sheep’s clothing. They are Islam pure and simple and their agenda is to take over the world. Don’t be deceived and don’t accept their money!
