I Prayed have prayed
Father, we lift up America's major cities before you as socialists take control. We pray that Marxism would have no place in our nation!

A growing number of America’s largest cities may soon be led by openly socialist politicians, raising concerns among conservatives about the future direction of urban governance. Following a major primary victory in Washington, D.C., one analyst argues that the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are seeing the results of a strategy years in the making.

Let the IFA community know how to pray for you.

From The Federalist:

Lewis George, however, is not simply a Democrat. She’s a proud member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and D.C.’s probable mayor-elect, which means Washington, D.C., is about to join a growing list of America’s largest cities governed by DSA party members.

Perhaps most prominent on that list is New York City, where outspoken DSA member Zohran Mamdani won the mayoral race decisively in November 2025. “What the purpose is about this entire project — it’s not simply to raise class consciousness, but to win socialism,” Mamdani said in a 2021 speech for the Young Democratic Socialists of America. “We have to continue to elect more socialists. And we have to ensure that we are unapologetic about our socialism.”

Mamdani made headlines with his plans to implement failed socialist ideas in NYC, including offering free child care, creating city-owned grocery stores, and cutting $22 million dollars from the NYPD.

The article argues that Lewis George’s apparent path to the mayor’s office is part of a broader trend that has seen socialist candidates gain influence at local, state, and federal levels. According to the Democratic Socialists of America, more than 100 DSA-backed candidates have won office over the last decade, with many of those victories occurring after 2016 as the organization dramatically expanded its electoral efforts.

The DSA traces its roots to the socialist movements of the twentieth century but experienced explosive growth following Senator Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaigns and the political realignment that followed President Donald Trump’s first election victory. Today, the organization claims approximately 100,000 members nationwide and maintains hundreds of local chapters, including youth organizations on college campuses across the country.

Critics contend that the DSA’s goals extend far beyond traditional progressive politics. The organization advocates policies that supporters describe as democratic socialism, while opponents argue many of its proposals reflect Marxist principles, including major economic restructuring, expanded government control, and dramatic changes to cultural and social institutions. The article also notes the DSA’s involvement in activist movements and its emphasis on local elections as a pathway to broader political influence.

The strategy appears to be yielding results. Beyond Washington, D.C., socialists have recently secured victories in cities such as New York and Seattle, while candidates aligned with the movement continue to compete in major municipal races around the country. Supporters view these developments as evidence of growing enthusiasm for socialist policies, while critics see them as a warning sign of a broader ideological shift away from free-market principles.

These developments underscore the importance of remaining engaged in local government and public policy. Political movements often gain influence first at the municipal level before expanding to state and national politics. As cities shape education, public safety, housing, and other issues that affect daily life, let’s pray for leaders who will govern with wisdom, uphold freedom, and promote policies consistent with biblical values.

I respectfully disagree with socialism being good. Socialism is an economic system where it is owned among many (not individually) with the government administrating. Capitalism is the economic system where individuals may acquire and reinvest earnings. Free enterprise, minimal government intervention, driven by supply and demand of consumers. Socialism never spurred inventions (there is no incentive personally to achieve/invent). We have already seen what bad governance looks like in our schools, justice system, medical community and a bloated government that cannot be supported financially and subscribes to false ideologies, all the while persecuting Christian-centered values of family, freedom and service to God. I do agree that man cannot in and of himself be trusted, but, must rely on the counsel and instruction of the Lord.

Socialism is a wonderful idea BUT man is not incorruptible and every time, the wonderful idea gets screwed up and too many suffer while a few benefit. It doesn’t work because it is not God’s idea.
Lord please help people see the difference in socialism and your plans for mankind.

Lord, give discernment to compassionate Christians that they see the difference between spirit-led giving and socialism.
That our eyes be opened to the difference between loving people and enabling sin. That we recognize the incremental transfer of power from personal responsibility to governmental control and speak out against it and seek to correct it.
In Jesus’s name

Fern that is what we need to pray spiritual discernment in the body of Christ. Also spending more time with God to hear his small still voice.
