Iran’s new president spoke to the U.N. General Assembly about his plans for his nation’s future. Meanwhile, thousands took to the streets outside of the U.N. to protest and demand justice.

Masoud Pezeshkian became Iran’s president earlier this year after a helicopter crash killed his predecessor. Months later, on September 24,  he stood before the U.N. to explain his plan for Iran’s future. He expressed a desire to see Iran play a larger part in the global community, stating “I aim to lay a strong foundation for my country’s entry into a new era, positioning it to play an effective and constructive role in the evolving global order.”

In the midst of these hopes and goals, however, Pezeshkian made sure to criticize Israel over its conflict with Hamas and Hezbollah. He accused the nation of “atrocities,” “colonialism,” and “crimes against humanity,” stating that these actions “cannot go unanswered.”

Pezeshkian also took aim at the U.S., listing several Iranian grievances. In appealing for sanctions relief, he said, “We have the opportunity to transcend these limitations and enter into a new era. This era will commence with the acknowledgment of Iran’s security concerns and cooperation on mutual challenges.”

Meanwhile, thousands of Iranian-Americans gathered outside of the U.N. in New York City to protest. The protestors called for justice, highlighting those who the Iranian regime has executed—200 executions have reportedly taken place since Pezeshkian took office in July. One protestor said, “These crimes have to come to light, and it’s essential that we are all here to voice our opinions against this terrorist regime.”

As Iran pushes for a larger place on the global stage, we have to keep praying. The nation’s leaders have cursed Israel and America. At the same time, the Christian church in Iran is growing and many testify to revival within its borders. As Iran continues to expand its influence, we pray that God would take over the nation and use it to accomplish His will!
