For several years, media headlines have been full of news about our military. However, the news has not always been good. Instead of hearing about how our armed forces are fully focused on our national defense, we have seen headlines, lawsuits, arguments, and more about how the military is focusing on “wokeness” and not on defending our national interests.

Can our military really operate at its highest level of efficiency and effectiveness while diverting so much of its time and resources to wokeness?

Unfortunately, the answer to that question is, most likely, no. Arguments and areas of focus regarding gender transformations, inclusion, and pronouns seem to go in direct opposition to the demands of our national defense and security.

It’s time to make this a matter of serious prayer. And happily, we serve a God Who is extremely aware of the importance of our military!

After all, not only is He the Lord of Hosts, but He is also Commander of the Lord’s army!

And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are You for us or for our adversaries?” So He said, “No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, “What does my Lord say to His servant?” Then the Commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy.” And Joshua did so (Joshua 5:13–15 NKJV).

The Commander of the Lord’s army in this passage was the pre-incarnate Jesus Himself. We know this because He accepted worship, and angels do not receive or accept our worship. And not only does He identify Himself as being a military God, but He gave countless military instructions in the Bible. Think of all the times He told David and other Jewish kings exactly what to do in order to defeat their enemies in warfare!

Friend, our God is the Lord of Hosts. He knows everything about our nation; He reigns over all nations; and He can turn our military around. He is Lord even of the United States armed forces!

If you’re ready to believe Him for transformation in our armed forces, then pray this prayer for a focused and effective military:

Dear Heavenly Father, we come to You in Jesus’ name.

Lord God, we need Your help in our nation. And we thank You that You are ready to help! Thank You that we can come boldly before Your throne of grace, where we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Thank You for hearing our prayer today, and for answering before we even call.

Father, we praise You for Your might and strength. You and You alone sit at the governmental center of the universe. You are Lord of Hosts and God of angel armies. You are Supreme Commander of all heaven’s forces, and You and You alone are the giver of true wisdom.

Because You are our defender, shield, and protector, we know that You are intimately familiar with how important our military is to this nation.

You know this better than anyone else, Father. And You alone see the true extent of the gaps and weaknesses that our military has allowed by diverting its attention to the liberal agenda.

Father God, we ask in Jesus’ name today that You would restore our military to being a godly, focused, and effective force that serves America’s best interests.

We pray in Jesus’ name that Your Holy Spirit would give true wisdom to every person in the military. Let Your wisdom reign and prevail at every level, from the Commander-in-Chief to the lowliest privates, ensigns, and recruits. We ask that You would convict every member of the military for any way in which they have put their own agendas, or any wicked agenda, above the interests of this nation. And we ask that You would bring them to repentance for any ways in which they have betrayed the national trust.

Father, we ask also that You would move greatly across all bodies of our military:

• We ask that You would bring spiritual revival to every branch.
• Bring an acute awareness of Jesus Christ to every person in our armed forces.
• Let Jesus appear to every man and woman in the military. Let Him be revealed to them as Savior AND as Commander of the army of the Lord.
• Let every military person long for Jesus, hunger for Jesus, and bow the knee to Him — confessing Him as their personal Lord and Savior.
• Awaken military leaders with dreams and visions of wisdom, direction, guidance, and strategy from heaven.
• Give every military person ears to hear You, eyes to see You, and a nose to smell Your fragrance.
• Give them godly discernment, prudence, understanding, and discretion by Your Holy Spirit.
• Give them supernatural revelations of knowledge, strategy, and wisdom that will save lives, deliver military personnel from danger, and apprehend or defeat any enemies.
• Bring the right people to enlist in the military, and deliver our nation from any wrong people.
• We pray that our military men and women would be the most inventive, the cleverest, the wisest, the bravest, and the most courageous military force on the face of the earth — and all for godly purposes.

We ask You also to bring true safety and security back to our military bases. Teach our military leaders and elected representatives how to prioritize our military security — and the safety of our personnel. Let wisdom reign again, Father, and destroy the woke and effeminate culture that is damaging our military’s ability to function properly.

Father, You are the Lord of Hosts. That means You are Lord even of our armed hosts — the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines, Space Force, and National Guard.

So let our forces serve You, Father. And because it is righteous and just, let our great armed forces serve the best interests of our nation once again.

Thank You, Abba Father. We ask all these things in Jesus’ holy and precious name. Amen.

Friend, God has promised that the earth would be filled with the knowledge of His glory as the waters cover the sea, and this promise includes our nation’s military.

I know it may seem at times as though the military is a group apart that cannot be impacted, but our prayers do pierce veils and cast down walls. Our praises do bring the forces of God to fight on our behalf. Be encouraged today, and let’s continue to lift up the arms of our nation’s military personnel as we believe God to move in this area!
