I Prayed have prayed
Father, we pray for unity in our nation. Let Your gospel truth break down the superficial walls of division.
Reading Time: 3 minutes

The following is an excerpt from our daily devotional Fellowship With the Father, written by IFA contributing writer Remco Brommet.

I have been thinking a lot lately about the importance of knowing our true identity as Christ-followers in our day.

Discuss issues you care about with other intercessors.

We have been caught up in a whirlwind of confusion, misinformation, and outright deception like never before. It seems that, while God was working on us during the pandemic, Satan was working on galvanizing his forces to sow fear, hate, division and anarchy. God’s aim? To strengthen our sense identity of who we are in Christ, and Who Christ is in us. Satan’s aim? To attack the true identity of our nation and everyone in it by tearing open the wounds and divisions that have existed beneath the surface since the US was formed.

Were we ever “one nation under God?” Will we ever be? Will there be liberty and justice for all? Or are the United States going to become the Divided States – headed for an eventual breakup into individual progressive and conservative countries?

Only God knows and He’s not telling. Just yet.

So what are we to do?

We are to pray in remembrance that the dividing walls of hostility can only be destroyed by Christ – in that all have sinned, Christ died for all, all are forgiven and redeemed by faith in His atonement, and all are filled and gifted by the same Holy Spirit and made citizens of heaven. It doesn’t matter what we look like on the outside, where we’ve been, what we’ve done, or how much or little we own. Those are the external things Satan uses to divide us. God unites us by transforming our hearts and bringing us into One Body, with One Spirit, under One Father, through one faith and one baptism (Ephesians 4:4,5).

That is our only hope, and should be our only message to the world. Our love-filled, heart-transforming, reconciling, unifying true identity on display in word and in deed.

I think that is what is meant in Ephesians 3: 9,10: “…and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things, so that through the church the manifold (literal meaning: multi-colored) wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.”

In other words: our true identity, the fact that people from every color, language, tribe and nation share the same salvation and citizenship in heaven, is God’s glorious “in your face” display of unity to Satan and his forces who use a false identity made up of outward things to divide us.

That’s why we must pray that the true identity message spreads and becomes a mighty movement, here in the US, and abroad. A “true identity revival!”

Today’s Prayer Assignment

Let us stand on the promise of Ephesians 3:11, 12 together today: “This was according to the eternal purpose that He has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in Him.”

Affirm your faith in God’s invitation to access His throne 24/7 and pray that our nation will see a move of the Holy Spirit awakening the need to embrace our true identity in Christ and a thirst for Him to pour out the love that breaks down the dividing walls of hostility in our hearts. If we are ever to come into what we proclaim our nation to be, we need this to happen on a grand scale.

Father God, thank You for the Book of Titus in the New Testament. I read it again just the other day. It reminded me to pray that the Body of Christ will be hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled, holding fast the faithful word as they have been taught, that they may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict. (Titus 1:8-9, NKJV). Yes, Lord unity among the Body of Christ is needed more now than ever. “No weapon formed (not even division) against Your children of will prosper.” (Isaiah 54:17, NKJV) . In the words of William Seymour, “Holy Spirit come and give us power to stand on the infallible Word.” Thank you for helping us to overcome mindsets that are not centered on Jesus and destroy those spirits of division within the Body of Christ that are causing Your children to not flow properly. Forgive us for taking You for granted. Amen & amen.

These versus stopped me in my tracks two years ago. I ask God, How can I demonstrate the manifold wisdom of God to these evil forces in the heavenlies, and at the same time have an adversarial relationship with them? As I studied the Bible I began to realize that God’s plan to redeem His entire creation is based on these versus in Ephesians 3. We, His Ekklesia, are going to bring His Kingdom on earth to fruition by demonstrating the manifold wisdom of God to a fallen world. This can only be done by the power of the Holy Spirit in us. I no longer fret about the chaos going on around me, but put my efforts into turning those scriptures into a practical application. I use my time to help those less fortunate than myself. I focus on my behavior towards others and forgiveness towards those that trespass against me. I do these things not because I am obligated to do good, but because I truly believe all my actions are being used by God for a bigger purpose. Paul says “you will know the will of God”. I realized that my life had been about what I wanted to see God do for me. Now its not about me, but about what I can do for Him. My reward is in the future when I die and Christ returns. Whether our nation turns around or not is not my concern anymore. Gods plan of redemption of His creation is what He is ca!ling me to do. He created His church for this purpose. He will use evil for His purposes and use all suffering to bring us closer to Him which prepares us for eternity to rule and reign with Him. In revelation 12, it says we overcame Satan by the blood of the Lamb, the Word of our testimony with the attitude of not fearing even death. I believe this Scripture shows the true power over the enemy is in our actions of simply living as Christ lived. When we show His love and compassion we further the Kingdom of God and ultimately fulfill the plan of redemption for His entire creation. We also have the peace of God regardless of our surroundings.
