Despite what many may claim about themselves, the church, and the nation, it seem that only 10 percent of Americans are Evangelicals.

From Crosswalk. A new survey says that evangelicals make up a smaller portion of the U.S. population than commonly believed, even if they remain a significant demographic. The American Worldview Inventory survey from George Barna at Arizona Christian University found that 10 percent of U.S. adults qualify as evangelicals by using a definition consistent with the National Association of Evangelicals’ own definition. That definition, according to the report, “defines evangelicals as people who recognize their sinful life, rely upon Jesus Christ for their redemption, and receive practical life guidance and wisdom from the Bible in their quest to live under the lordship of Jesus.”

If the 10 percent statistic is correct, then 25 to 30 million adults in the U.S. are evangelical.  …

The percentage of evangelicals in surveys is often inflated due to self-identification rather than using precise definitions.

“Media reports commonly cite that anywhere from 25 percent to as many as 40 percent of American adults are evangelicals,” the report said. “But those figures are suspect. Most statistics regarding the incidence of evangelicals are based on self-reporting.” …

Greg Laurie, who wrote a book on soulwinning, said that 95% of Christians have never led someone to Jesus Christ as Lod and Savior!

Based on my recollections, these 5->15% results often surface for those committed to following Jesus, once peoples’ beliefs and actions are examined. This seems to have been a pattern for decades and probably reflecting reality.
So, we move on in dependency on and obedience to the Lord Jesus. Let us value and support each other, each listening to and obeying Lord to be faithfully engaged in our kingdom assignments, cooperating with Holy Spirit and each other according to God’s Word.
The 10% is likely enough to save America, referencing Genesis 19. However, the transformation/reformation of America into our godly destiny will require a much larger percent engagement of people into God’s will. Gideon had 300 to riot the enemy but thousands more later joined the fray once the tide had turned (Judges 7:22-24); perhaps our situation is similar .
“Lord, we are committed to You and Your kingdom. You are our Victor!
We beseech You for plentiful workers to be sent out into the coming harvest (Matthew 9:37-38).”
