President Joe Biden has proposed trillions of dollars in federal spending, but as he and his supporters have quickly learned, those plans will not get very far without help from others in my home city of Washington, D.C. Of course, first among those needed allies is Congress. So many of Biden’s proposed plans must now get through a skeptical House and Senate. Most pressing among Biden’s plans is infrastructure, where Senate legislation is being prepared after a bipartisan compromise was hammered out.
Other priorities include his proposed tax increases, the American Families Plan, and any upcoming Supreme Court nominees.
All need Congressional approval, and so far Biden is having a hard time getting it.
Some think that the president controls his own agenda, but the reality is Congress holds the power now. This is all the more reason to put Congress at the top of our intercessory prayer list.
Even as we keep Congress in our prayers though, let us not forget the personal aspect of Capitol Hill.

A theme of these columns has been that we must pray for our elected officials in a holistic way, not just for their policies, if we want to please God with our prayers. We have to pray for their health, blessing and their salvation, not just their political decisions.
In that spirit, I interviewed a very prophetic Capitol Hill staffer who loves Jesus and serves in a local church.
I asked her how we can be praying for Congress, and three main points emerged:
Family
I know for many of them they have kids or grandkids and when we are in session that is really hard. And even when [members] are in the district they are pretty busy. They have to fly to other places, so I know it is a lot to miss things about your family.

Hope
Another way is to pray for hope. I know both sides of the aisle, when the other is in power, everyone feels like nothing we do matters. I just hate that idea. My prayer is one day we would…no matter who is the minority or the majority…that we would be able to be people that…have one objective, that is to give the best and represent the American people the best that we can. Yes fighting for them, but working together without compromise of people’s principles.

Pray Against Humanism
My source went on to say that many members of Congress are beginning to realize they cannot solve the nation’s problems without the help of God.
This idea that humans are the solution. I would say people in D.C. and the Hill believe this, that we have the solutions and [humans are the answer]. I just really feel that … actually we need God. There is a time coming, and I think we’ve seen it in members’ lives and the way they live, like the prayer meetings that are happening, that “We need God.”
That is their cry.
There is this recognition that [they] can’t do this without Him.

Let’s join together in interceding for both the policies and the people on Capitol Hill at this crucial time in the Biden administration. When Congress is deciding how to handle the Biden agenda, they desperately need our prayers.
With this in mind, let us pray:
- Father, you are the good Father, the inventor of family. We pray you bless the families of members of Congress and their staff, that they come to know Jesus and walk in the power and love of God, in unity with one another.
- Father, we pray that you would instill hope in those on Capitol Hill, that they would not despair. We pray especially for the Christians who you have sent to Capitol Hill to make a difference and bring in your Kingdom, that they would be filled with hope and not grow weary in doing good.
- King Jesus, we pray that your will and your ways would be instilled in the policy and legislation that comes out of our nation’s capital. We need your divine wisdom and understanding to come to our leaders so they can govern well. We ask you would protect them from the deceptive spirits of the age so they can operate according to your Holy Spirit.

Thank You dear Heavenly Father for so many blessings; including the IFA family who work hard to gather the information we need and to bring us together so we can unify in prayer. Protect this organization and Your intercessors dear Lord. Help us to gain and/or remain consistent in spiritual warfare. Help us to have ears to hear Your voice clearly along with the wisdom and courage to obey You completely. Help us to get our lives in order so that there are no distractions. And deliver us from the obstacles that seek to obstruct our way. Help us to love You with our whole heart and put nothing before you. Let us fear You alone and not man. Give us eyes to see Your will, and ears to hear Your voice clearly. Give us wisdom, strength, balance, and all else that we might need to fulfill Your call on our lives. Help us to continually pray for our leaders to be lead by and empowered by Your Holy Spirit to do what is right, those things that glorify You. And deliver us all from any deceptive spirits. Help us to do our part in praying for our leaders and sending them letters of advice to show them where Your people stand and letters of encouragement to strengthen them. Help each of us to hear Your voice and obey You. Whether we are led to share Your truths on social media or our own created websites. To gather a few family/friends for a hospitable prayer breakfast, lunch, tea, dinner….. To do volunteer work at a Pro-Life Clinics- praying for and guiding these vulnerable clients; Hospitals- rocking & praying over newborns or those near the end; Boys & Girls Clubs and School Classrooms and Boardrooms praying for/with and influencing for You and Your kingdom; Local Government- praying with, encouraging, and effecting the legislation and laws that will govern our present and our future such as school choice, 2nd Amendment rights, etc.Lord help each of us to accept all the blessings of wisdom, courage, good health, strength, sound mind, balanced lives and time management to go out into our country and be Salt and Light, influencing America to come to, call on, trust in, and walk humbly with You. In Jesus mighty name we ask. Amen and Amen.
A word to God’s elect. You were chosen for this moment in time. God has you fully equipped for the fight that is set before you. We are soldiers of the Cross. God’s thoughts and ways are higher than ours, He clearly tells us this. We must trust Him not man. We are to rise above the muck that clouds our vision and trust what we know to be Truth! God is in control! Read the Scriptures! Seek to understand prophecy. It’s not over your head. Do the work! Over and over I hear people quoting, “If My people who are called my My name will humble themselves and pray, I will hear from Heaven……..etc.” I started asking people, “What does that mean to you?” I was shocked by the confusion that came over their face. I put a second question to them,”Who is God
talking too?” Again they all stumbled and sputtered out, “Everybody!”
I could tell their answer was more of a question than a conviction. I gently explained that God is talking to His Bride, the Church. We, you and me, must humble ourselves and repent of our sins. We must clean up our act! We must open the gray areas in our lives. There is no such thing as ‘a little sin’. Sin is sin! When we turn from our wicked ways, Our Creator God says He will hear from Heaven, and He will heal our land.
Folks, you and I need to take care of business NOW! Stop trusting that somebody else will do it! You are His chosen one! You will be held
accountable! Every knee will bow. That’s a given. We need to stop the murder of our innocent babies! Stop those that are pushing Marxism
on America. Stop those that are pushing Critical Race Theory on our
innocent children. Stop Planned Parenthood from selling baby parts
to institutions that are ‘scalping our babies’ and connecting animal ‘parts’ to them to ‘see what turns out’. This is happening now folks! Check it out! What do you think God thinks about that? Do you think He expects His soldiers to go to war? I believe so. “If My people…….who are called by My Name……..” How sad our Father in Heaven must be.
We point our finger to those in Washington and Rome who mock the sacraments. Rightly so, but there’s plenty of fingers pointing at us for cuddling our sins, and for doing nothing, as we fall from grace. Wake up Church! Read the Scriptures! There is a price for rebellion. Let those who have ears hear.

How much greater are the sins you referenced in your comment…”There is no such thing as ‘a little sin’. Sin is sin!” God has shown us mercy through Jesus Christ, “let those who have ears hear!”

Father, let those who are Your children, in Congress, feel the power of the Holy Spirit rise up in them and convict them that they represent You! We ask for supernatural courage for them to stand up, and not be afraid, to stand for godliness and holiness. We pray they will stop compromising on what they know is right! Let them stand against the destruction of our freedoms, our families and our rights! HELP THEM TO FEAR YOU, MORE THAN MAN! Help them them discern good from evil. Father, show them, that when they have the courage to stand for what they know is right, You will move on their behalf. Let them see the glory of the Lord.In Jesus Name

We must speak truth to those who mock our Creator God. Indeed, we must educate and affirm God will not be mocked. He will have the last word. Stand strong. You can make a difference. Blessings upon you.
Yes, I stand in agreement and would add that I do believe discernment includes knowing the difference between right and almost right. The devil uses lies to twist the Word as he gives a part of the Word…he did it to Adam and Eve in the Garden and to Jesus in the Wilderness.
Father God help us and those You placed in our nation’s capitol for this time to know the difference between right and almost right. Help us to take the time to read your Word, to meditate on it, that it may come up and out when we need it. Help us Holy Spirit to stand on Truth and not feelings, as they can change like the wind. Let the words of our mouth and the meditation of our heart be acceptable in your sight (Ps 19:14). Let courage arise as we choose truth and obedience to your call. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

Lord God, thank You for my sister Susan’s prayer. I stand in agreement with her confident in Your character and steadfast on Your Truth! Thank You for the gift of Your Word and Your Holy Spirit that guides, directs and intercedes on our behalf! Lord, we trust in You and love You! Our Hope is in You! Thank You for Jesus, thank You for salvation and the promise of eternal life! Bless and protect those followers of Christ in our government, schools, communities, churches and families! Let us not grow weary of well doing our fall into hopelessness. Keep our eyes fixed on Jesus! In His Name we pray
Father, thank you for this serious reminder that Congress members need prayer. Forgive us for criticizing and complaining and ignite our hearts to intercede and stand in the gap on their behalf. You know all their hearts and I pray that they will cry out to you and that we would come along side and uphold them in prayer. In Jesus Name, Amen.
