LORD, SEND A DREAM TO JOE BIDEN!
We see in Scripture many times when God communicates directly to kings. Boy, do we need that now.
I understand that voting, advocacy, and other political tools are helpful in advancing godly values in our nation. However, I believe there is a strategy laid out in Scripture for changing the course of history that we have not sought enough.
Consider this passage from the book of Daniel, the story of a steadfast, godly man who advised a pagan king named Nebuchadnezzar. One day, that king had a disturbing dream.
In the second year of his reign, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; his mind was troubled and he could not sleep. So the king summoned the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers and astrologers to tell him what he had dreamed. When they came in and stood before the king, he said to them, “I have had a dream that troubles me and I want to know what it means.” (Dan 2:1-3)
All the wise men of the kingdom could not tell the king what his dream was, let alone interpret it. But as we read later in this story, Daniel did. He had been placed by God in a position of authority, influencing the influential, and when the time came he was able to unravel a prophetic mystery for the most powerful man in the land.
After he does, we see the response:
Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell prostrate before Daniel and paid him honor and ordered that an offering and incense be presented to him. The king said to Daniel, “Surely your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries, for you were able to reveal this mystery.” (Dan 2:46-47)
Can you imagine a Supreme Court Justice, a Senator, or even the president having that reaction today?
This week, we need to pray that the Lord sends divine revelation, dreams, visions, prophetic encounters, to those in power. Beyond that, we must pray that God’s people are in the right place at the right time to interpret those “God moments.”
Where did I get this idea?

For this article, I spoke to a prophetic Capitol Hill staffer to see how we can pray for Washington, D.C., and I learned that she is already doing what Daniel did!
From my source:
There’s so many ways you can pray….dreams, visions. I’m big on that. God, bring the dreams because people may not always believe that they hear God, but then they have a dream and say, “Do you think God is speaking through this?” And I think those have been some of the most moving moments. When someone has a dream, and they can’t understand what it means and there’s a laborer in that office. For me, in my office, being able to talk someone through their dream, what I sense the Lord is speaking to them and they just get so impacted and I’m like “Yes Lord! Keep seeking after their hearts.”
We see from my source’s experience that these dreams don’t just affect policy decisions. They can impact the heart of the recipient and lead them to knowing Christ. Let’s seek after both, a genuine salvation experience for our leaders and also that their decisions and policies would reflect the wisdom and ways of God.
We also see in Daniel’s story that he asks for prayer before interpreting the dream, similar to the same call to prayer you just read in this column and the same prayer request my source gave me. Read through this passage as you pray and understand this week’s prayer request has been rooted in Scripture for thousands of years:
Then Daniel returned to his house and explained the matter to his friends Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. He urged them to plead for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that he and his friends might not be executed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. During the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven… (Dan 2:17-19)
Our God is merciful. He loves to answer us.
With that in mind, let us pray:
- Lord, we ask that you send dreams and visions to our leaders as you have done in the past. Stir them to seek you and change their hearts, minds, and decisions because of the profound revelation you pour out on them.
- Jesus, we ask that you strengthen the Daniels, the dream interpreters in high places, and give them the wisdom, understanding and boldness to speak up when they have the opportunity to interpret these dreams.
- Father, we pray you would touch our leaders’ hearts, that they would know you personally and step into redemption. We also pray you would affect their policy decisions, that your ways and your wisdom would flow through the political office you have given them.
